WELCOME! On this Memorial Day weekend, welcome to the presence of the Creator for whom every seventh-day Sabbath is a Memorial Day of His creation. With our nation we remember with gratitude those who gave their lives for the sake of our freedom. And here in the presence of Christ, we worship Him who gave His life for the liberty and liberation of all humankind. This is a day to remember. Whether you ve gathered with our Andrews Academy seniors at the first service or with the rest of our worshiping community at the second service, let all our hearts and minds be thrown wide to the glory of the God whose grace has brought us thus far and this way. News agencies this week reported that a glass vial of President Ronald Reagan s blood (reportedly taken after his attempted assassination in 1981) was being offered for sale by a British online auction house. PFCAuctions.com has confirmed it is auctioning a vial containing what appears to be a specimen of dried blood, labeled with Reagan s name, his patient ID number, the date, and the name of the hospital s chief thoracic surgeon (South Bend Tribune ). The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation in Simi Valley, California, issued the following statement: If indeed this story is true, it s a craven act and we will use every legal means to stop its sale or purchase (ibid). The owner of the glass vial purportedly received it from his Continued on 7
REVIVAL & REFORMATION PRAYER REQUESTS AND NEEDS appeal to you, brothers and sisters, I in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV General Pray: That each of us will examine our relationships with others on this campus and elsewhere; that we may work toward reconciliation and healing. For John and Millie Youngberg as they continue Medical Missionary Training in Taiwan. Prison Ministry Pray: For a former inmate who is taking Bible studies at home. For the effectiveness of the Prison Ministry. That the Holy Spirit will prepare the hearts and minds of prisoners to be receptive when contacted. Earliteen Department Pray: That God will give our leaders and teachers wisdom as to how best to partner with the Holy Spirit and reach our students who are on the fence spiritually That our students will develop a hunger and thirst for the things of God That the Holy Spirit will impress a couple more adults to join our dynamic and committed team of leaders and teachers. [NOTE: There are many personal blessings that come from helping our young to know God. They teach us as much as we teach them!] Interdisciplinary Field Project Martin Hanna and John T. Baldwin are members of an interdisciplinary faith and science team undertaking research this summer. The team is studying sculpted landforms in Northeast Arizona. Pray that God will guide the research, data collection, and the development of causal hypotheses. Do not fear. serve the Lord with all your heart. And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing. For the Lord will not forsake His people, for His great name s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you His people. Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way. Only reverence the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you. 1 Samuel 12:
OPERATING FUND NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR / LOVE IN MOTION Less than a mile from PMC is an exciting ministry that is a transforming agent in our community. This ministry called Neighbor to Neighbor Adventist Community Services is an example of what can happen when the body of Christ works together. People from Berrien, Cass, Van Buren counties and beyond are able to find hope and compassion at N2N because of the hard work of many dedicated volunteers. The ministry has a family emergency program, a thrift shop, food pantry, layette program and many more programs for people in need. When I stopped in to see the volunteers, it was like seeing love in motion. I saw ladies sewing baby quilts for layettes and people processing bedding, books, household items and clothing. In a corner back section of the building, I met Harry Show (who is 93 years young) repairing a chair that had been donated. We check all electrical appliances and furniture and make general repairs when needed, said Harry. Everyone agreed that donated items came in faster than they could be processed. Laura Meyer, executive director of N2N, explained that in the year 2011, 94 regular and 141 short term volunteers reported 21,881 hours of service. And there are many more unreported volunteer hours. added Lucy Randall who is the Family Emergency Services Coordinator. To thank the volunteers, a special appreciation dinner was held in April at the Village Seventh-day Adventist Church. We thank them too and hope that many more will join their ranks. Let s keep on serving our neighbors in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. 5 MASTER PLAN OF EVANGELISM FLAG CAMP / SUMMER 2012 Learning about God is fun. It is possible we have forgotten that we learn just as much about God through relationships (those are fun), experiencing nature (this is fun), and playing (who doesn t enjoy this) as we do in a worship service or Bible study. Amen! Learning about God is fun and we will be taking time this summer to have a Fun Learning About God (FLAG) Camp. Children between the ages of 5-13 can have Fun Learning About God (FLAG) starting Monday, June 4 thru Friday, August 3. The camp is held at the Pathfinder Building at Andrews University and runs daily from 8:30 AM 4 PM with Pre-care starting at 7:30 AM and After-care going until 5:30 PM. You can either fill out an application now or wait until your child attends since there is registration every day at the camp. The application and camper handbook can be found at www. pmchurch.org or call As always, there are some who have difficulty paying. We invite you to give toward sponsoring some children. If you want to help - mark summer camp on the tithe envelope. 6 CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AA / HOW ANDREWS ACADEMY CHANGED MY LIFE As part of the students Academy experience they are to create a portfolio. This document illustrates their strengths as an individual as they develop in the four major components of Adventist Education: the spiritual, physical, social and academic. Working on their portfolio it helps them see if they are properly developing in each component. One page of this portfolio is their autobiographical sketch, in which they describe the factors that influence how they have become the individual they are. It s so interesting to read these sketches. The following are portions from three different portfolios.... Thanks to my parents strong belief in Adventist education, I have been able to attend Adventist schools since Kindergarten. I am privileged to hear chapel talks, participate in song services, and be taught by instructors who care and pray for me daily......we (siblings and I) took to a wrong side of life getting caught up in bad influences, bad experiences, and gained bad friends. Knowing this, our parents paid for the very best education, SDA education. There we gained more friends who were kind, we had good influences. We then started to change through Andrews Academy which challenged us to strive for our full potential, in God, family and our education One of the things I love most about Andrews Academy is the ability to take part in the daily chapels. I shared my personal testimony last year because I felt as though God was calling me to do so... Public speaking isn t my strong point, but because the academy is such a warm and inviting place, I was able to get through my talk without feeling too nervous or embarrassed. PRAY That lives continue to be touched by God through Christian education MORE INFO Robert Overstreet / overstrr@andrews.edu CHRISTIAN EDUCATION GIVE TO LINE 3 Goal to-date $90,420 Received to-date $69,930 (Received to-date 2011) $65,038 As of May 19,
THE FOURTH WATCH mother, who had been connected with George Washington Hospital, where the President was rushed after John Hinckley Jr s assassination attempt. The auction house reports that bidding is up to $11,000 for this sample of dried blood. Beyond the flagrant invasion and violation of medical privacy that this sale represents (whether you re a president or not) how much is a drop of blood really worth? Ask that question this weekend when the nation pauses to remember the supreme sacrifice that tens of thousands of American military personnel have paid in order to preserve our liberties, and the price of a drop of blood skyrockets, doesn t it? But on this official opening weekend CONTINUED of summer how many of us will even pause to ponder the costly legacy of our freedom? How much is a drop of blood really worth? Ask that in the shadow of Calvary, and every convicted and forgiven sinner will whisper of an infinite cost, an eternal price. You were liberated by the precious blood of Christ, like that of a flawless, spotless lamb (I Peter 1:19 Common English Bible). Precious indeed that blood, offered without money, at no cost (Isaiah 55:1). Memorial Day. Because the blood that has set us free, keeps us free, without money, at no cost, the most precious commodity in the history of forever. Amen. 7

CALL TO WORSHIP O Lord, you have searched us and you know us! To know when we lie down and when we get up, you discern our thoughts from afar. Where shall we go from your Spirit? Where shall we flee from your presence? We praise you, O God, for you are wonderful. Wonderful are your works! How precious are your thoughts to us, O God! Let us praise the name of the Lord. THE WORD ISAIAH 55:8,9 KJV For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. MUSIC ALIVE STRENGTH FOR CHALLENGES Fire and cloud, pilgrim and manna, fountain and shield: These are among the word pictures painted in Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah (hymn 538). This hymn originally was in the Welsh language and had at least five stanzas. It was titled Strength to Pass Through the Wilderness. The hymn likens the Christian life to the march of the Israelites through the wilderness of Sinai to the Promised Land of Canaan, lead by a powerful God who provided their sustenance, according to one commentary. Author William Williams ( ) wrote from a desire to address the obvious lack of good hymns in Welsh. In fact, in time he became known as the Welsh Watts in reference to Englishman Isaac Watts. The hymn testifies to God s great sustaining power. 9

All Pioneer members are asked to be present. FELLOWSHIP DINNER LEADERS NEEDED We have had several fellowship dinner team leaders resign or move away this year, which leaves some vacancies. We have several people who want to join a team, but no one to lead out. If you would be willing to lead a team on one or more of the following Sabbaths, July 14, August 11, October 6, and October 20, please Ben Chilson at bennettc43@ gmail.com MUSICAL VESPERS Join us for a musical vespers by Scott Michael Bennett, this evening at 7 PM at the St Joseph SDA church (1201 Maiden Lane). Come and receive a blessing as he shares his God given musical talents! YOUR HELP NEEDED! As our college students leave our campus bare for the summer, this includes several of our younger Children s Sabbath Schools. As summer progresses and our families choose to go on vacation, they leave vacancies also. Between these two factors there are Sabbaths where help is desperately needed. Leaders, small group teachers, pianists or just an extra hand to help out are all helpful and or needed. If you are willing to help out for as long as you can, please contact Glenda Davidson at bg1@pmchurch.org or letting her know in what capacity you are willing to help. 15 THE FINAL $240 MY GOD SHALL SUPPLY ALL YOUR NEED, PHIL 4:19 NKJ In the 70 s at the end of a Sabbath worship message, Dr. John Kroncke asked for all PMC church leaders and ministries volunteers to stand as an act of commitment to God that they would be faithful in returning a 10% tithe and supporting PMC ministries with 4% in combined local offerings. Our story teller (we will call her Mary ) was one of those that stood and made this commitment - and for a number of years, she was faithful. Then in the 80 s she decided to buy a house on land contract. Mary did not qualify for a loan that would allow her to buy the house, so a friend loaned her the rest. She says she did not understand hidden costs of upkeep, taxes, and a balloon payment due at end of the land contract period. When she was not able to meet all the payments, she tried to sell the house but was unsuccessful. This was when Mary made a decision that she could not return tithe on a regular basis or honor her commitment for supporting PMC ministries with 4% in offerings. However, she said she never forgot her commitment and was bothered that she was not keeping her promise to God. In 1998 Mary renewed her commitment to return tithe on a regular basis and give 4% in local offerings AND to begin returning back tithe and offerings as well. She prepared a record for every year she had not returned tithe and given offerings on a regular basis. Here she recorded her income for the year, and the amount of 10% tithe and 4% in local offerings. From this, she subtracted what she had actually returned/given. She was shocked to see that the balance due was more than $15,000. And so Mary again began honoring the commitment she had made to God in the 70 s. In May of 2012, she came to my office to tell me this story and to give me an offering envelope containing the final $240. I can tell you her story brought tears to my eyes tears of joy for this precious lady who realized she could trust God to supply every need according to His riches in glory. And He did! She did her part and God did His part. I hope you have been blessed by Mary s story, as I have. Maybe you, too, have a story to tell. If you do, we want to hear from you. And if you choose to tell it anonymously, just mail it to my attention without your name. - Pastor Sharon 15
