With its 239 passengers and crew missing and presumed dead, its disappearance has become the greatest unsolved mystery in the history of flight. For the last two weeks air and naval vessels from a cadre of nations have been combing the south Indian Ocean off the western coast of Australia for any sign, any clue at all regarding the missing airliner. Satellite images of out of focus flotsam on the sea have sent search teams scrambling to confirm potential evidence. But thus far no confirmation. No physical evidence that could bring a modicum of comfort or even closure to the families of the missing. Nothing except an erratic and occasional ping, which, authorities 2 Continued on 7

I WILL DO A NEW THING BEFORE OR AFTER In the personal battles against selfishness, sin, and addictions, what do you do when you have let God down and succumbed to the temptation? In my experience, I go to God and claim His promises to forgive and heal. One of the promises I claim is, Let us therefore come boldly before the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16). As I have imagined kneeling before God s throne asking for forgiveness, He has asked me, Why didn t you come here earlier? I would have given you the power to withstand the temptation and be victorious. Then when I realize the amount of time I have spent thinking about and playing with the addiction, comparing that with how much time I spent asking for forgiveness, I am ashamed. If only I would come and kneel at God s throne during the temptation and spend that time asking God for the victory. When I get to heaven and meet Manasseh, will it be of great comfort to know that he is forgiven? No! What I want to know is, does Manasseh have a changed heart? Has he had a new-birth experience? Can he be trusted with a sharp saw to not cut people in half? God s standard is high, but would we want it any other way? To be truly free for eternity, I want to be assured that everyone there not only does God s commandments, they even have no desire to disobey. This indicates a change of mind that has changed their behavior. May my prayer not only be Let this mind be in you (Philippians 2:5) but, Give me the mind of Christ; His love and passion for saving others; His love for the Father; that His victory over sin will, through His power (grace), become my victory over addictions. Samuel had the understanding that it was better to obey than to sacrifice better to ask for the power to overcome temptation than rely on God s mercy and forgiveness. Even David said, Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins (Psalm 19:13 NKJV). By asking God for victory before and during the temptation, I avoid my own regret, and avoid crucifying Him afresh. Truly to obey is better than sacrifice! (1 Samuel 15:22 NKJV). Dennis Hollingsead And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. ROMANS 12:2 NKJV 3

OPERATING FUND GROW GROUP / LENDING LIBRARY was finally king! I had worked hard I and made it to the top. But before I could enjoy my newly established position I heard the words of treason, I m done playing, let s do something else. And with those simple words, my kingdom was packed up and stored away for another day. It was Spring Break and my family and I were playing one of our favorite games called King and Pauper in which all those playing try to get to the top position. I had made it to that position and had gained the title of king only to lose it when the game was finished. In a way life is like a game in that when it s over, everything goes back into the box. When our life here on earth is finished, all of our accomplishments and all that we have acquired during our lifetime goes back into the box, much like Monopoly money or a scorecard of any board game. Here at PMC we strive to be community, ever focused on what has eternal value. One of the ways we do this is by promoting GROW Groups, a 10-week game in which the players are encouraged to focus on growing through relationships. We are currently looking for individuals to lead our summer and fall GROW Groups. If you need any ideas or materials we encourage you to check out our recently catalogued GROW Group library which contains books and DVDs that can be used as a guide for this adventure. Contact the church office at to check it out. The pieces are set, are you ready to play? 5 MASTER PLAN OF EVANGELISM MOMMY & ME / FELLOWSHIP WITH US Spring is on the way and many moms are ready to get out of the house. Mommy and Me is a great place to go with your kids ages 0-5. The PMC Nursery room is warm and comfortable and wonderful teachers make each playgroup fun. Come on most Tuesdays at 10 AM and you will hear children playing and moms chatting. This is Mommy and Me, a time for moms, grandmas, and aunties to gather for fellowship and playtime. After playtime children and adults gather on the rug for songs or stories. Then the children (and moms) have an opportunity to make a craft. Coloring, cutting, gluing! What fun. After a little more play time everyone works together to clean up the toys and put away the tables until the next time. Mommy and Me provides a great place to get to know other moms and for kids to get to play with others. This is also great for moms who are new to the area. You can meet new friends and also find people who can tell you about the kid-friendly resources in our community. If you are a mom or grandma who is looking for a playgroup, come and join us April 15, April 22, and April 29. For more information contact Rosemary Bailey at mommyandme@pmchurch.org. 6 CHRISTIAN EDUCATION RMES / IT S ALWAYS ABOUT THE KINGDOM Our Jr. High Spring Week of Prayer just ended with great results. Thank you to Brianna Martin, Philip Giddings, and Chris Davisson for a team effort. I had the pleasure of interviewing Chris Davisson, seventhand eighth-grade teacher for Math and Science. What I learned is the passion he has for ministering to students and preparing them for eternity. This year he coached the Jr. High students to lead their Week of Prayer. He said, Students did everything from Bible games, song service, special music, and preaching. I only helped them keep structure and prayed for them. But, why did sixth-graders attend these meetings? He said, About two years ago we decided to invite them to experience their new hall, classmates, and teachers. A sixth-grader said: It was lots of fun; I liked the Bible games before the program, the special music; and I really liked how we were not afraid to speak our minds during prayer request. Each student received a Prayer Card every day, making it easier for them to submit their prayer requests in private. The last day each student filled out a Decision Card where they pledged to commit their life to Jesus. Requests: 12 to be baptized Several to be part of a Small Group All submitted prayer requests Davisson says, Having the Jr. High students lead the program and ministering to the sixth-graders was a good experience for all of them. The Jr. High students will be praying for the sixth-graders the rest of the school year. As I was leaving Davisson s classroom he repeated, It s always about the Kingdom. Willyta Ruiz-Wamack THANK God for the young people who committed their lives to Jesus MORE INFO David Waller / waller@andrews.edu CHRISTIAN EDUCATION GIVE TO LINE 3 Goal to-date $60,018 Received to-date $42,982 (Received to-date 2013) $47,874 As of April 5,

THE FOURTH WATCH CONTINUED say, could possibly be the underwater pulse emitted by an airliner s black box communication recording devise. But like the satellite images, the recent spate of pings has yet to prove conclusive. And so the world waits and the families pray. As I have brooded over this unfolding story and as is characteristic of this blog site looked for a connect between the headlines and life as we live it today, it has occurred to me that in some mysterious sense the underwater pings are a metaphor of the resurrection. And by that I don t mean that this airliner full of men, women and children, buried in the depths of the ocean, is a symbol of all the dead who await the resurrection the Bible promises at the end of time. With Easter only a few days away, that promise of hope would certainly be worthy of our reflection. But rather, could it be those intermittent pings can represent an even more stunning truth? The quiet truth that the Father of the universe, the Creator of this errant planet, itself wildly and erratically far far off its intended divine flight plan could it be that God Himself hears what no other ear can hear the faint, intermittent pings emitting from a billion fresh and ancient graves the world over silent pings that mark the patches of earth and sea under which lie the remains of earth children who sought His salvation? To our broken hearts what seems so cruelly stolen from us in death is not lost to Him. Because what eye hath not seen, nor ear heard is seen and heard by the Christ who yet cries out, I am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25). In vain we search for the one who no longer is in our arms, whose breath we feel upon our cheeks no more lost and gone, our sobs confess. But on this week before Easter, let every heart remember that what the ear cannot hear He can. Wild and stunning truth more glorious than before, God can hear the ping of hope. And our dead are not lost to Him. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Amen. 7

CALL TO WORSHIP We come to hear the voice of the Lord. In God s word there is power and majesty. In God s word there is affirmation for the faithful. May God speak and bless all people with peace. THE WORD 2 CORINTHIANS 10:2-5 NIV I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. MUSIC ALIVE A LIST Does God have a list of those he s trying to save? Scripture says that He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9a). A story goes that German businessman Oskar Schindler had a list of people to be transferred... and thus saved from transport to Auschwitz concentration camp. Schindler s list indeed and Schindler was instrumental in saving more than one thousand persons, mostly Polish-Jewish, during the Holocaust. Related music can remind us today of the pathos of life, the threat of death, and the wonder of salvation through mercy. Elsewhere in worship, Clifton Williams Chorale is said by the composer to be an urgent plea for greater humanity and a return to religious or ethical concepts. 9

HEALTH NUGGETS THE IMPORTANCE OF MAGNESIUM Most of us are aware that we need to take our iron and calcium supplements, but what about Magnesium? Did you know that Magnesium is responsible for over 325 enzymes in our bodies and it is the second most abundant element found in our human cells? According to the National Academy of Sciences, American s magnesium deficiency helps to account for high rates of heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, arthritis and joint pain, digestive maladies, stress-related illnesses, chronic fatigue and a number of other ailments. This has developed over time with industrialized farming and our poor American diets loaded with sugar, fat, and salt, which actually speeds up the depletion of magnesium from our bodies. Here s what you can do today. Magnesium is not easily digested in our stomachs, so a supplement won t work. However, it does absorb through the skin. Using Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) is an excellent way to get the magnesium your body needs. Epsom salt is available over the counter in many stores. Read more: BENEFITS: 1. Reduces inflammation/helps relieve pain and muscle cramps. 2. Improves absorption of nutrients. 3. Prevents or eases migraine pain. 4. Helps the body detox from medications and environmental contaminants. CHALLENGE Add 2 cups of Epsom salt to your bath. Soak for 12 minutes three times a week for maximum benefits. *Speak with your doctor if you are pregnant or have health concerns.
