WELCOME! Welcome to summer and to worship at PMC! Today is the official beginning of summer and one of the longest days of the year. As the sun reaches the summer solstice it seems to pause before beginning its journey back south. But here in Pioneer there is no pause in our worship of the Son of Righteousness. We hope each of you will be blessed by our service today and will receive a blessing to sustain you all through the coming week. Sunnis against Shiites, Shiites against Sunnis have been the headlines these past seven days. But it s not like Muslims have a corner on the market of intra-family killing. This aging, disintegrating planet has lived with that tragedy from in the beginning with Cain and Abel. And while it might assuage our consciences to point the finger at Islam, the sorrowful truth is that the American Civil War and the terrorist killings between Catholics and Protestants in Ireland are evidence enough that Christianity (or a perversion thereof) can be justly fingered as well. Of course, the crooked finger rightfully deserves to be pointed straight at someone else, someone whose hatred of the Creator King is still (after all these millennia) so 2 Continued on 7

I WILL DO A NEW THING MY PROXIES Have you ever needed to use a proxy ballot? A proxy is something or someone who is a substitute who speaks or acts in your behalf. The fact that we have all sinned means that God has given us the freedom to reject Him even slap His face in hatred and disgust. Humans have done it, and my proxies were there at the cross, treating Christ with the same rejection I give every time I willfully sin. And yet, Jesus forgave them in their ignorance! Is it true that God s people are destroyed for lack of knowledge? Many Christians Adventists included believe they have the truth and begin to feel comfortable in their teachings and beliefs. And yet, Jesus diagnosis is that those living at the end of time will be wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked (Revelation 3:17). Is it possible to keep the Sabbath, believe the truth about death, have a correct understanding of all things, and still be destroyed for lack of knowledge? What kind of knowledge? Facts and figures, symbols and types; or to know God and be known by Him? It has often been said that those who ignore the past are bound to repeat the same mistakes. Those who crucified Christ were the most committed, health-reforming, Biblequoting, Sabbath-keeping, believersin-the-messiah s-advent the world has ever seen. And yet our proxies murdered the Messiah and rushed home to keep the Sabbath to prove that they were the blessed of God! Is it possible for us to do the same to be committed to health, memorize Scripture, observe the Sabbath, believe in the Second Coming, and still reject and murder Christ? Ellen White stated this possibility that occurred during the 1988 Minneapolis General Conference. But all the universe of heaven witnessed the disgraceful treatment of Jesus Christ, represented by the Holy Spirit. Had Christ been before them, they would have treated him in a manner similar to that in which the Jews treated Christ (Ellen White, Special Testimonies for Ministers and Workers No ). However, the proxies at the cross were not all of that character. There were John, the thief, the centurion, Joseph of Arimathea, Nicodemus, and all the women. Let us make use of our time to plead with God for the eye medicine, white clothes, and gold that are necessary (Revelation 3:18). Dennis Hollingsead And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. JOHN 17:3 ESV 3

OPERATING FUND KINDERGARTEN I SS / CREATURES OF THE OCEAN Be prepared to hold your breath when you step into the Kindergarten-1 Sabbath School room this month. We are learning all about the wonderful creatures that live under the oceans and the special way that God has created each one of them to live in this different world. Do you know that a mother octopus will give her unhatched eggs a bath several times a day? Have you ever watched a green sea turtle crawl out of the ocean to lay her eggs on a sandy beach? Did you know that the sound of whales can be heard a hundred miles away as they migrate? These are just a few of the creatures that the fouryear- olds are learning about. Right now we are in need of several helpers in our room both full time and part time. It is wonderful to have the college students help us during the year, but they are really missed during summer break. If you would be willing to help teach a small class or play the piano for the summer during Andrews University s breaks, please let us know!! If you have any questions contact me at the below or Jeannie Wolfer at wolferj@andrews.edu. Our children are a special gift from God and a lot of fun to work with. 5 MASTER PLAN OF EVANGELISM SOUP KITCHEN / SERVING THE LEAST OF THESE Despite the name, we don t usually serve soup at the Benton Harbor Soup Kitchen. We serve meals, with an entrée, vegetables, salad with dressing, bread with garlic butter, and dessert. These are served on plastic food trays that have come from various sources. The colors vary from nondescript ashen colors to mustard yellow or Kelly green. Once they ve served their purpose for the meal, they re rinsed off and run through an industrial strength dishwasher, then set out on a counter to dry. They re piled in stacks of 20 which make them easier to count how many meals we served. Otherwise they re stacked in no particular order. There is one exception: there s a separate pile for the red trays. The red trays have been designated as being for children. When those trays go through the serving stations, the servers know to downsize the portions from what usually goes on a tray. I have to depend on someone closer to the serving window to know when to pull out a red tray. We re talking about clients the tops of whose heads are sometimes barely visible over the top of the counter. During the autumn and especially the hard winter we ve come though, the number of red trays stayed fairly constant, in the range of three to five. In the past few months, however, that number has climbed. On June 1, 2014, we served 101 adult meals and 13 children s meals. Each tray that gets used is a testimony that to that extent we ve followed the words of Jesus and helped the least of these. That s especially true when I count the red trays. Daniel J. Drazen PRAY For those who are hungry and thirsty not only for physical food but most especially for spiritual food MORE INFO Dan Drazen drazen@andrews.edu MASTER PLAN OF EVANGELISM GIVE TO LINE 5 Goal to-date $58,608 Received to-date $48,100 (Received to-date 2013) $47,427 As of June 14,

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AA / GRADUATION WEEKEND At Andrews Academy, graduation involves much more than simply receiving a high-school diploma. It s a four-day event beginning with Class Night on Thursday, an evening to celebrate the numerous achievements of the class. This year s outstanding individuals in the class received more than 1.25 million dollars in scholarships! Friday evening s Consecration service was an opportunity for the young people to commit their lives to Christ. The speaker, Pastor Lynn Bryson, a Senior parent, invited the Class of 2014 to participate in an anointing, symbolizing their consecration to Jesus. The next day, at Sabbath School, Senior parents gave words of wisdom and love to the graduates. Following Sabbath School, Baccalaureate speaker Andrea Jakobson, shared her message Seven Things I Wished I Knew When I Graduated. Graduates Cavan Miller and Charlene Cuarto chose to be baptized as part of this very special service. Saturday night was the group s final Class Vespers together. Seniors shared how they had felt accepted, loved, and changed by the people at AA and encouraged each other to remain close to Jesus. During Commencement on Sunday, Seniors received their diplomas and one more spiritual message given by David Ferguson. He challenged the group to focus on the things that are unseen (2 Corinthians 4:18). Throughout the weekend there were tears of joy as Seniors celebrated their accomplishments; tears as they thanked parents and teachers; and tears when they realized that this would be their final time together... at least until the Heavenly reunion. Steve Atkins ASK God to bless the graduates as they begin their next phase of life MORE INFO Robert Overstreet / overstrr@andrews.edu CHRISTIAN EDUCATION GIVE TO LINE 3 Goal to-date $102,888 Received to-date $80,081 (Received to-date 2013) $84,723 As of June 14,

THE FOURTH WATCH CONTINUED intense, so insane that he derives a sadistic (satanic would be the better word) pleasure in injecting the children of the heavenly Father with his own poisonous rage. And war broke out in Heaven.... but woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you wild and raging with anger (Revelation 12:7, 12 see The Message). Jesus own finger-pointing truthfully declared, An enemy has done this (Matthew 13:28). So what s a Father to do? Here are some not-so-simple suggestions about what you and I might do: 1) Let s you and I resolve that by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we will not let intra-family anger, hatred or even resentment spring up in our own homes, our own hearts. Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry (Ephesians 5:26) is inspired counsel for marriages, families, friendships and workplace relationships. Before the day ends, talk it out, it out, pray it out together. 2) Let s you and I invest some extra time on our knees, pleading with God to intervene (even while He allows and protects free choice) in the rage and killing, that the innocent might be spared and that the guilty might yet be reached. Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be the children of your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:44, 45). While Jesus counsel was for us, why can t we exercise this loving and praying on behalf of others far away? 3) Let s you and I offer ourselves to God to become peacemakers in the circles where we live, work, play. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God (Matthew 5:9). We may not be able to heal the whole world, but why couldn t God s healing peace flow through the way we speak to each other, the way we choose not to forward that angry, judgmental piece of gossip, the way we become involved in quiet shuttle-diplomacy between two estranged brothers or sisters who need the Peacemaker Himself? When children fight, what s a Father to do? Could it be that you are what He s wanting to do to stop it? 7

CALL TO WORSHIP The God who made the world and everything in it give life and breath to all. See what love the Father has for us that we should be called the children of God. This is his promise: if we believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, We shall have life and experience it abundantly. Come, then, let us worship him. THE WORD PSALM 24:1-6 NIV The earth is the Lord s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters. Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob. MUSIC ALIVE SUMMER SOLSTICE TODAY This morning, at approximately 7 a.m., the summer solstice occurred in the Northern Hemisphere. The day on which this solstice ushers in summer occurs as a Sabbath day, of course, only about once every half dozen years. At this time, the sun appears to stop (hence the name solstice, from Latin meaning sun and to stop ). Today s offertory basks contentedly in the joy of God s creation in summer. German composer Johannes Brahms set a German hymn ( chorale ) melody for organ. One stanza says, My heart abounds with pleasure In this fair summer time, When God, with fullest measure, Renews the world benign. All earth and all the heavens Doth God with life imbue; All creatures, high and lowly, Grow beautiful and true. 9

HEALTH TENT AN EXTRAORDINARY OPPORTUNITY We re excited about summer! It s not just the fact that we can enjoy the outdoor beauty of Michigan and take family vacations, but we are praising God for the extraordinary opportunity we have to reach approximately 3,500 people at the Berrien County Youth Fair with God s message of healing and love. This year s fair week is August The Health Tent, which is sponsored by all the Seventh-day Adventist churches in Berrien County, will use the NEWSTART approach and focus on God s natural healing agents: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sunlight, Temperance, Fresh Air, Rest and Trust in God. As our planning committee meets each week to pray, brainstorm and plan, God has been blessing! It is our desire for this ministry to be one of healing to be packaged in a way that will be friendly, fun, thoughtful and informative. The funds we have received from our SDA churches in the district have paid the rental costs for our tent and space at the fair. However, we are sharing with you some additional needs. We would like: 1. To borrow an enclosed trailer to park behind the tent. This would be used to store our equipment in a secure manner each night. 2. A laptop computer to be donated to be used exclusively for the fair s health evangelism efforts each year. 3. Additional funds (approximately $2,000) so we could purchase prizes for kids and also purchase spiritual DVD s and literature to be given at our Trust in God station to people who are searching for Bible truth. Donations to this fund can be put in our offering envelope but must be specified for the BCYF Health Tent. Health and happiness go hand in hand. Never has it been so critical to know the physical and spiritual laws of health than today when stress, mental illness, chronic disease, heart disease, AIDS, and cancer are ravaging our society. Help us to lead our friends in the community to a new life of joy, vibrant health, service to others, and peace with God. 15
