Poor God He isn t faring very well in American politics these days. The President recently mandated contraceptive insurance coverage, and the Roman Catholic Church rose up in arms, vociferously complaining that such an insurance policy would infringe on Catholic belief that contraception is contrary to divine will (never mind that a majority of American Catholics practice birth control). President Obama then offered a compromise for contraceptive coverage, but (as with most compromises) few are happy. So did God win or lose this skirmish? Last weekend Republican presidential candidate, Rick Santorum, decried the President s phony theology of environmental policy as being contrary to Holy Scripture. This after Santorum (himself a Roman Catholic) had inveighed against the Continued on 7

REVIVAL & REFORMATION PREVAILING PRAYER Watch ye therefore, and pray always, is the injunction of Christ to His disciples. Again we read in the inspired Word, In everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. God has made it our duty to pray. The riches of the universe belong to Him. He has all temporal and spiritual treasures at His command, and can supply every want from His abundant fullness. We receive our breath from Him; every temporal blessing that we enjoy is His gift. We are dependent upon Him not only for temporal blessings, but for grace and strength to keep us from falling under the power of temptation. We daily need the Bread of Life to give us spiritual strength and vigor, just as much as we need food to sustain our physical strength and give us firm muscles. We are compassed with weakness and infirmities, doubts and temptations; but we can come to Jesus in our need, and He will not turn us away empty. He invites, Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. This is no doubtful, uncertain promise, but a positive one. If we come to Him, we shall not be disappointed. Yet how unwilling we seem to accept the gracious invitation. When in trouble, we too often go for help to our brethren, who are no wiser nor stronger than ourselves; but if we would go to Jesus, if we would take our troubles to Him in prayer, we should find rest, and peace, and courage. The wisdom that God gives is unerring; His strength is sufficient for all our needs. Let us lay our burdens at the feet of Jesus, and according to His promise. He will take the weary load, and encircle us in the arms of His love. - The Bible Echo, September 24,

OPERATING EXPENSES FUNERAL DINNERS / COMFORTING THROUGH SERVING One of the most rewarding ministries our church does is provide a funeral dinner for the family, close friends and out-of-town guests of a church member who has passed away. We appreciate everyone s efforts in providing menu items, purchasing supplies and setting-up and serving the dinner. Many times folks not part of our community of faith as well as former church members attend and feel very warmly welcomed on these occasions. There is always need of volunteers to provide food and/or help set-up and serve. As a team member you ll be called every two to three times. Blessings will be yours by serving in this ministry as you bring comfort to the grieving family as well as enjoy the fellowship of the team. If you would like to help in any or all of these areas, just call the church or Belle Tan or Pat Erhard. PRAY That we will be a comfort to those that grieve the loss of a loved one MORE INFO Bell Tan / Pat Erhard / erfurn1@sbcglobal.net OPERATING EXPENSES GIVE TO LINE 2 Proposed Goal $82,117 Received to-date $56,928 (Received to-date 2011) $54,816 As of February 18,

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION RMES / SCHOOL SPIRIT We recently celebrated Hat Day at Ruth Murdoch Elementary School. Students and teachers showed their school spirit by wearing silly, colorful, and fun hats to school. Other RMES School Spirit Days we celebrate are Multi-cultural Day, Crazy Hair Day, and School Colors day. The purpose of School Spirit days is to show others that you are interested and involved in the school, and to mix things up and have some fun. School Spirit Days give our students a different kind of school day to look forward to and another reason to be excited to come to school. Not surprisingly, building school spirit spreads to RMES families, to the constituency, and to the community. Once there, we often find that others enjoy showing their support too! We are blessed with a school that supports our students, our church and our community, and we are thankful for your support in return! PRAY Our students will be excited to come to school MORE INFO David Waller / waller@andrews.edu CHRISTIAN EDUCATION GIVE TO LINE 3 Proposed Goal $31,647 Received to-date $18,341 (Received to-date 2011) $19,984 As of February 18,

MASTER PLAN OF EVANGELISM HOSPITALITY TENT / WELCOMING FRIENDS & GUESTS How does Pioneer Memorial Church say Welcome we are glad you are here! to 6,000 friends and guests in a single day? With volunteers like you and a very big tent! The PMC Hospitality Center, located outside Johnson gym, is the home for this gladness and warmth and operates during the day of Andrews University Passion Play. The Hospitality Center is positioned to greet the Passion Play guests as they exit the Resurrection scene from Johnson Gym. Besides offering the guests hot chocolate, a cool drink or perhaps an apple donated by Apple Valley and Dave Pagel Farms, the Center volunteers and other Passion Play volunteers are there to listen to and pray with many who have been moved by their experience of the Passion Play of Christ. It also houses a Kids Korner experience which is created and lead by Pastor Ken Morrison and his wife, Robin. They and their team spend the day tirelessly serving and teaching the youngest guests about Jesus during this unique opportunity to reach families that may not regularly attend church. As the guests exit the Hospitality Center, we offer them an opportunity to leave comments in a Passion Play memory book. Last year, guests wrote: Thank you! We ve had an awesome experience- it helped our daughter understand what all happened ; from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Thank you for sharing Jesus! ; from Georgia, Came all the way from Atlanta to see this glorious event. Praise God for His Son lives! ; and, finally, from New Jersey, God bless you as you continue to serve God through wonderful ministries such as the Passion Play. As you give to the PMC Master Plan for Evangelism, you give to this ministry. Please give generously. Contact David Nowack if you wish to join this one-day ministry. PRAY That we will find volunteers to help MORE INFO David Nowack / nowack@andrews.edu MASTER PLAN OF EVANGELISM GIVE TO LINE 5 Proposed Goal $18,039 Received to-date $10,191 (Received to-date 2011) $10,602 As of February 18,

THE FOURTH WATCH administration s earlier contraceptive insurance proposal. So whose side is God s theology on? Then this week Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham, was pointedly asked whether he considered Obama a Christian or not. Graham skirted the question I have no idea what he really believes. And what about Mormon presidential contender Mitt Romney? Graham was less equivocal in stating, Most Christians would not recognize Mormons as part of the Christian faith, though Graham assured his interviewers that he believed Romney would be a good president. So in God s estimation what is a good president? Who knows for sure? But then, who s surprised at the level of God injection into politics and the presidential campaign this CONTINUED year? Roman Catholics (68 million) and evangelical Christians ( million) are a major voting block that politicians must court. This last week s news cycle simply reveals candidates doing what they do best, openly playing to the constituencies they are wooing. But if the heart of God is courting all His earth children evangelicals, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, atheists (you know the menagerie that the world has become these days) then how important is it that the press and the government (at least in this nation) not be swayed by the most religiously well-heeled or the most spiritually out-spoken? After all, history reveals that in a national crisis how quickly the lines between a free press and a dominant religion can be blurred how quickly government can be harnessed by majoritarian faith to order its citizens to accept their decretals. And who wants to relive that history! So let us watch with deepening interest the unfolding presidential campaign. Keep a score card of how often God is invoked for political or party purposes. Avoid a cart blanche acceptance of any leader s pronouncement (religious or political). And exercise the carefully reasoned thinking that God has given you. In the end Jesus counsel is unassailable, Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar s, and to God the things that are God s (Matthew 22:21). That way you ll never mistake the voice of Caesar for God. 7

CALL TO WORSHIP Today the word of the Lord reveals to those who need a light. We ask the Lord to light our path. By the Lord s light may we proclaim the truth of Scripture and life in God. Come let us worship our God in truth and light! Amen. THE WORD JOHN 14:12-14; 15:7, 16; 16:23, 24 NKJV Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. MUSIC ALIVE GREAT FAITH, GREAT FAITHFULNESS Living well into his nineties, Thomas Obadiah Chisholm was born in Franklin, Kentucky in a plain log cabin. America was on the brink of the Civil War at the time of his birth. As Thomas grew to maturity, his formal education did not include high school or advanced schooling. But he managed, at age 16, to become a schoolteacher in the same rural school where he received his own elementary education. After becoming a Christian, he became the editor of The Pentecostal Herald, receiving ordination into the Methodist ministry sometime later. During his long life, sacred poetry poured profusely from his active mind: more than 1,200 sacred poems in total, including a much-beloved hymn in today s worship journey, Great Is Thy Faithfulness. 9

PIONEER FAMILY LIFE [CONT] PMC JOB OPPORTUNITIES The Pioneer Memorial Church is seeking qualified candidates for one full time position: Administrative Assistant for Associate Pastors Application information & instructions are at AU PREVIEW EVENTS Andrews University Enrollment Management would like to invite high school juniors and seniors to attend one of our Preview Events this spring. Thank you also to the wonderful staff who provided a meal for our family on Sabbath evening. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. - Lynda Teter & the family of Larry Oxley PRISON MINISTRY BIBLES We are collecting Bibles for prison ministry. Donations can be dropped off at the church office during the week or left at the receptionist desk on Sabbath. Thank you for your help! 13 TELEPHONE BUDDIES Several incidents have taken place in our PMC community which have left us with great concern and the earnest desire to prevent future occurrences. Let us explain what we perceive as a need and why. We can recall at least ten accidents where persons living alone and in frail health have become ill or fallen and no one was aware that they were unable to help themselves. This has resulted in people lying on the floor for many hours before being found and in some cases even dying and not being discovered for several days. How tragic! Our Small Group would like to make this option available and it costs nothing more than someone caring enough to make a phone call. We are talking about a telephone buddy system. It works like this: Two people become phone buddies and call each other every morning (calling again in the evening would be even better). If there is no response, further investigation would be called for. Our small group is encouraging every older person or frail person living alone to contact a friend and become phone buddies. If you would like for us to help you find a phone buddy we will be more than happy to help. Contact: or dudleym@andrews.edu SANCTUARY FLOWERS The sanctuary flowers are given in celebration of John Neumann s 90th birthday on February 28 by his children. Cards may be sent to 4589 Greenfield Dr., Berrien Springs, MI

8655 UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD, BERRIEN SPRINGS, MI PHONE FAX HOUSE OF PRAYER 7 PM, YOUTH CHAPEL I love the story of Peter in prison, because of the effect it had on the church. Constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church (Acts 12:5). The man s in trouble and what does the church do? Constant prayer. Because if we have a roommate or family member or friend or colleague or neighbor in need, the most potent response on our part is constant prayer. That s why House of Prayer exists so that we can share our constant prayer needs with others who will join us. Having been a recipient of constant prayer by many of you for our iperceive lectures in St. Joseph, I can testify to the unleashed divine power that comes as the result of intercessory prayer. Join us at 7 PM this Wednesday in the youth chapel, and let s move forward on our knees. (Co-curricular credit for university students.)
