1 March 2017 State of the Union By Katie Weishaar It seems as though many people have very busy lives and being part of the Jaycees is becoming a back burner activity for most. For the last few months the board has been working relentlessly to recruit new members and find those who want to be part of something bigger than themselves. While we will always be looking for new members, we need to rely on you more than ever now. Our options and ideas are exhausted (as are we trying to find new "blood") and the future is looking quite bleak. However, we do promise to do our best, because we are Jaycees! So, on that note...who do you know? Are they Jaycee material? Send them our way! We will host a game night at the chapter house on March 31st at 7:30 PM. Come for a night of laughter, snacks and friendly competition! Please RSVP to Katie Weishaar (katieweko@yahoo.com) no later than Wednesday March 29th. It is BYOB, soda and tea will be provided! 2 Chapter Information LIT TLESTOWN JAYCEES PO Box 141 Littlestown, PA Katie Weishaar Jim Weishaar Luke Young Horizon Production Sarah Warner Service to Humanity, is the BEST WORK OF LIFE! Visit us on the Web! Like Us on Facebook! Dreaming of summer with all the warm weather that we have been blessed with? Well we certainly have been! It is again the time of year when the Jaycees, along with several other community organizations, meet to discuss the Good Ole Days parade and other festivities held in August. The Jaycees have again agreed to fund the Good Ole Days parade and participate in planning this event which will occur on August 17th at 6:30 PM. The parade format and route will be the same as Registration letters are scheduled to be sent out in April and due back to the planning committee in July. You will also have the ability to register for the parade online at the Jaycee website, parade/2017/default.htm. If you or anyone you know is interested in helping to plan/run the event or becoming a judge for participants, please contact me via at lukeyoung@littlestownjaycees.com. Luke Young Good of the Chapter The Littlestown Community and Littlestown Jaycees lost 2 very important icons over the past month. Ralph Ruggles, Jr. passed away on February 12th and Dick Selby passed away on February 28th. Mr. Selby was a past Littlestown Jaycee president (1963) as well as a Ralph Ruggles Jr. award winner, and JCI Senator. Littlestown has only awarded the JCI Senatorship, the highest Jaycee award in the International organization, to 15 members in its 67 years of charter. For the past 10 years, you could hear Dick s voice at the Judges stand for the Good Ole Days Parade as well as all around town - a sound we will all miss. Mr. Ruggles was, of course, the Littlestown Jaycees first president. In 1950, a few friends got together and decided to bring the Junior Chamber and its assets to Littlestown. As many Jaycee chapters getting started in that time, a leader was elected to bring brotherhood, free enterprise, human personality and service to humanity into the lives of the community. Finally, the wave of opportunity for young people had come to Littlestown and Ralph was the man who rode the front of that wave. Ralph is one of two Littlestown JCI Ambassadors. If you haven t seen them yet, you can find the obituaries later in this newsletter. Rest in peace to both of our friends. We wish the families the best of comfort. The Littlestown Jaycees are sponsored in part by The Littlestown Veterinary Hospital 5010 Baltimore Pike Littlestown, PA (PURR)
