2 Church Council Minutes August 13, 2018 ATTENDANCE: Danny Harms, Angie Kratochvil, Terry Bose, Marcia Buchs, Don Brucker, Kolton Brucker, Elton Mau We met first with Trinity s Council to discuss Pastoral compensation package beginning January 1, Danny opened the meeting with prayer. SECRETARY S REPORT: Angie read the July 9th minutes. Don motioned to approve, and Kolton seconded. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORTS: Marcia presented and explained the July Balance and Profit and Loss reports as well as the January-July Profit and Loss report. Terry motioned to approve, and Don seconded. Motion carried. PASTOR S REPORT: Danny presented Pastor s report. Angie motioned to accept the report, and Elton seconded. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS: Briana Ray has everything lined up for youth ice cream booth at the end of summer celebration in Colfax on August 18. Kolton motioned to send the amended 2018 Immanuel Lutheran Church Constitution to the Synod for review. Terry seconded. Motion carried. We are still on the list for Windel Concrete to replace the front sidewalk. We discussed a proposal from Jamie Wilson to replace the speaker in the sanctuary. We tabled it for now as we would like Jamie to come to a council meeting and talk about the estimate and various phases for replacement. We could also contact the Music Shoppe in Bloomington for an estimate. NEW BUSINESS: A big THANK YOU to Kay and Joy Bose and Pastor for the time and effort for a directory that turned out very well! Terry will get an estimate for laser-cut metal signs to replace the two at the entrance and exit for church. We will not pay to include our church contact information in the Yellow Pages. We discussed possibilities with a website. The event goes through Sunday morning, Nov 11. The event is for all youth 6 th -12 th grades. Registrations may be given to Pastor Tom by October 1. Alayna Gallagher (Erie, PA) Registration is $155/person T-shirts are $10/person Congregation will cover ½ the cost!

4 Community in Christ Sunday School Rally Day was held on September 16 during our new Sunday School time of 9:00. Singing and prayer time was followed by an indoor Bible Verse Scavenger Hunt. Groups of kiddos led by our Jr. High and High School students grabbed their Bibles and began looking up verses to provide the clue for the item to search for. They discovered, among other items, what Joseph hid in Benjamin's bag (Genesis 44:2) and that Michael hid the image under a...(1 Samuel 19:13). It was good to see the kids looking up these verses and gaining knowledge of the books of the Bible. Please help us reach our goal of 100 Shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. We still need a few more items for each box and the list below reflects some of those items and how many we would like to collect before we package and send everything in November. Toothbrush holders plastic soap boxes Bars of soap Small stuffed animals boxes of crayons Markers-Colored pencils small notepads scissors - pencil sharpeners Socks flip flops T-shirts Jump ropes small books puzzles Christina Weber Rodriguez Benefit Local churches are being asked to contribute desserts to the Christina Rodriguez Benefit on Saturday, October 13 at the Colfax American Legion. Christina and her husband are rural Colfax residents. Christina is a Livingston County 911 Dispatcher, her husband Danny is a custodian at Ridgeview Schools, and they have a 10 year old son Logan. She is battling acute myeloid leukemia. The benefit is from 2:00 pm - midnight and a fish & pulled pork sandwich meal will be served from 2-8:00 p.m. Pre-order meal tickets for a reduced price are available from Dee Winterland. There is a flyer on the church bulletin board with more details. Many activities are scheduled for the event. To supplement the meal, desserts are being requested. It would be appreciated if they arrive at the Legion prior to 1:00 that day. Desired items are cookies, bar cookies, sheet cakes, etc. For food safety, please NO dairy items (custard, pumpkin or cream pies, etc). If you want to donate but are unable to deliver your items to the Legion that day, please contact Dee Winterland to work out an alternate delivery. Questions can be directed to Dee Winterland. There will be a Lutheran Men in Mission One Year To Live retreat just west if Bourbonnais on October The OYTL retreat is a life changing event for men. Attached is a registration form and a link to a testimonial from a recent participant in South Carolina. We will waive the late registration fee for any men sending in a registration in the next 2 weeks. We need 10 men to have the retreat and we have room for 20. Staff will be coming from Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska. I am telling the men, we can always find a reason for not attending a retreat but a weekend with God is never wasted.
