Fifth Sunday Door Offering This is the fifth Sunday of the month and we will be taking an offering following both services this morning for our students studying to be church workers.

Attention All Boards and Members LWML needs your help with a fleece project for the National Convention to be held in Peoria June 23-26, We need (2) 1 ¼ yards of companion fleece to prepare each blanket for tying at a servant activity at the convention. LWML will sponsor a work night on Monday, February 21, 2011 beginning at 6:30pm in the fellowship hall. We will be cutting and pinning. It will be a great evening of fun as we help others in need. If you cannot attend but would like to donate fleece for the project, there is an LWML box in the coat room. Please bring in your fleece contribution by Sunday, February 20, Please call Jan before February 8 th if you can attend. We need a number to prepare for. Please bring your own scissors. Refreshments will be served afterwards. The Day School is hosting a Community Open House on Thursday, February 24, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. All teachers, the principal, and some parents will be present; and all classrooms will be open. If you, or your friends and family members, would like to find out more about our school s curriculum and the variety of programs and activities available, you are encouraged to attend the Open House. Teddy Bear Night You are invited to attend Teddy Bear Night as St. John Lutheran School on Thursday, February 10 th from 5:30-7:00pm. This event is planned specifically for current Kindergarten students and students who will be eligible for Kindergarten in the fall of During the evening we will explore teddy bears through our five senses by traveling to different stations to measure, weigh, estimate, graph, count, pattern, and taste. The evening will conclude with a bear story and a snack. Each student must have one parent with him/her to experience the different stations. Due to space limitations and limited supplies we ask that you do not bring siblings with you. As you eat your snack at the end of the evening, you will be given some information about our Kindergarten program. The Kindergarten teacher will be available to answer questions. Participants won t go home empty handed. Hearts at Home is the go-to-place for Moms. They're here to help you revolutionize your motherhood journey. Hearts at Home meets the unique, changing needs of moms in every season of motherhood. The national conference is Friday, March 11 and Sat. March 12 featuring Jill Savage, Jennifer Rothschild and Chonda Pierce on the campus of ISU in Normal, IL. Flyers on the conference are available on the narthex table. Topics include: Prayer, Dorcas, The Purification of Mary, Jacob and more. You can listen to what you want when you want at LEARN BY HEART THE FAMILY ALTAR The families of St. John are encouraged to learn these words from the Small Catechism by heart this week: The Sacrament of Holy Baptism What is Baptism? Baptism is not just plain water, but it is the water included in God s command and combined with God s word. Which is that word of God? Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Matthew: Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. [Matt. 28:19] What benefits does Baptism give? It works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare. Which are these words and promises of God? Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Mark: Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. [Mark 16:16] Bible Passage: Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.
