2 Now s the Time! Back to Church Sunday Back to Church Sunday is coming up on Sunday, September 18 th. We will be having a special service specifically designed to welcome people back to church. Now is the time to start praying about who you will invite. Eight out of ten people say they are open to visiting church if invited. That s powerful! Imagine how our community can be transformed if everyone here invited at least one person to come to church. We will have an important message on this Sunday called Now s the Time, that will inspire all of us to take the next step in our faith journey, no matter where each one of us is at in life. You won t want to miss it! We will have a time of Hospitality / Fellowship immediately following our service to help guests and members get to know each other. It will be FUN! This is something that everyone can participate in. This is the perfect opportunity to invite your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers to join you and grow deeper in their faith, or perhaps encounter God for the first time. 3 Called to Serve As members of Hope UMC we are all in covenant together to Faithfully Participate in the ministries of the church. There are eight (8) primary Ministry Teams that all work together to accomplish the Mission of the Church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Below are brief descriptions of the purpose of these Ministry Teams. Worship: works with the pastor and others to provide worship that focuses on God and helps people of all ages to grow in their relationship with God and be equipped for daily living as faithful disciples in the world today. Education: works to provide opportunities for all ages to grow in their understanding of the gospel and be equipped for daily living as faithful disciples in the world today. Outreach & Member Care: works with the congregation to welcome all people and care for all members to help them know and respond to the love of God in Christ as disciples. Missions: works to provide opportunities for all ages to share God s love through witness and service in the community and world to live as disciples transforming the world. Staff-Parish Relations: works to build a strong positive relationship between the pastor, staff and congregation so that the congregation makes disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Trustees: serve as Christian stewards to care for all local church property, buildings and equipment to further the mission of the church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.. Finance: proposes a budget, then raises, manages and distributes the financial resources of the congregation to support the mission of the church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Nominations: identifies, nominates and evaluates Christian spiritual leadership so the congregation can fulfill its mission to make disciples of Jesus for the transformation of the community and world. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and hope." Upcoming Event: Wednesday, August 3rd - meet at 7:00 a.m. at church. Bring a sack lunch - WORKDAY at Bidwell Riverside. As you do your back-to-school shopping don t forget to pick up items for school kits. Bags are available on the table in the front of Fellowship Hall. Health kits are also in great demand. It seems natural disasters are occurring around the world all too often, so these kits are always needed. If you prefer, make a donation and we will do the shopping for you. Write kits in the memo line of your check. Copies of the kit contents are included in the Messenger again this month, as well as, are posted on the website under the missions tab/ingathering Kits. Thanksgiving Ingathering is November 5 th, so kits are due in late October. THANK YOU!!

8 This year marks the 37 th year of giving to the United Methodist Annual Thanksgiving Ingathering that will be held the first Saturday in November. School supplies will be going on sale soon so now is the time to start thinking about kits. Our mission is to alleviate human suffering whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster to all people. These kits help care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis and also help to sustain everyday life by providing basic necessities. UMCOR is asking for help restocking HEALTH and SCHOOL kits so that will be our primary emphasis. All types of kits knitting, layette, sewing & lit kits are welcome. For more information and a list of contents, contact the church office. Or. You may make a donation and we will do the shopping for you. Write kits in the memo line of your check. Because of the often sensitive cultural and political contexts that surround the people we assist, UMCOR cannot allow any patriotic or even religious symbols to be used in the kits. We do not want to create an obstacle that keeps this valuable relief aid from reaching the people we seek to help. These symbols, such as flags or crosses, can be covered so that the item can still be used in the kits. Pack ONLY items requested for each kit. DO NOT wash items. ONLY send new items. Remember, these are gifts for God s children!
