If we can be of help to you or someone you know, please call the church office ( ) or Pastor Brantmeyer at ( ), or cell phone at ( ), or to Pastor at Pastor s office hours are: Mondays 1:30-3 at Zion Church office. Tuesdays at Perks in Monroe. Wednesdays 8-9 at La Iguana-Juda, and 1:30-3 at Zion Church office. She is around and available at other times, just call to confirm any additional options that may better suit your needs, but keep in mind that Friday is Pastors Sabbath.

6 Joys and Concerns If you have a joy or concern that you would like to share discretely, you may fill out one of the brightly colored Joys/Concerns cards in the pews and they will be collected after the Children s sermon. Your prayer will be read during prayer time and published in the bulletin the following week. Also please indicate on the back of the card if you would also like the prayers shared with the prayer chain.

14 Kyle Scheele, an inspiring speaker Local nonprofit groups have partnered to bring Kyle Scheele, an inspiring speaker, writer and youth expert who has challenged tens of thousands of teens across the nation to live better stories. He avoids the usual discussion of don t do this, don t do that and instead focuses on the positive choices that students can make to leave a positive impact on their classmates, school, community and world. Kyle challenges students to think about the things they can do NOW to start living an incredible life story!

Scheele will be speaking to middle and high school youth from eight area school districts in daytime presentations Feb Parents and other adult community members may attend a free presentation by Scheele at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center. 18 The Pregnancy Center Current Needs The Pregnancy Center is currently in need of size 3T and 4T Pull-ups, gallon size plastic bags that tie (The Great Value brand has 100 bags/box.), and boy s winter clothing sizes 3 & 4. The clothing can be new or gently used.

20 Parish Nurse February Newsletter Article In 2012 the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) listed distracted driving as a public health problem. Many states, including WI, have legislated against the major cause of this distraction, cell phones... especially texting while driving. Wisconsin legislators have been composing legislation requiring hands free cell phone use only. The information about the dangers of any distraction while driving is prevalent. But what about the dangers of distracted walking?

21 Parish Nurse February Newsletter Article In 2015 the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons had a survey conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on the dangers of distracted walking because of the increase in the number of musculoskeletal injuries seen by distracted walking. The survey found that 40% of the survey participants have seen people in a distracted walking incident (tripping, falling, or banging into something/someone) with the major cause of the incident being distraction by cell phone use. 25% of the participants admitted that they themselves had been in a distracted walking incident.

22 Parish Nurse February Newsletter Article The survey found that younger adults, aged 18-34, were the most likely individuals to text, talk, or listen to music while walking. Though this age group were less likely to have serious injury, they did report higher rates of distracted walking. The age group with the most injuries suffered because of distracted walking was women aged 55 and older!

23 Parish Nurse February Newsletter Article Though 78% of the survey participants said that this was a serious issue to be concerned about, the survey showed the tendency of people to view it as someone else's problem: 75% saying usually it's other people who are distracted while they walk, but only 29% saying the same thing about themselves. We are in an era where the mindset is to get multiple things done at once so time isn't wasted. 22% of the people taking the survey felt exactly that way. They needed to do several things while they were walking in order to "use their time productively."

24 Parish Nurse February Newsletter Article Bottom line: distracted walking can be a dangerous, injury producing practice. We need to get away from the idea that we can multi-task while walking and/or driving because it truly does not raise efficiency and actually puts people in danger. Multitasking per say isn't mentioned in the Bible, but double minded, not focused or committed to one thing, is. James 1:8 says it best, "A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways." Indeed he is.
