1 Our Savior Lutheran April News From Pastor Steve... Sisters and brothers in Christ, There are moments in our collective and personal histories that change everything. July 4, 1776, December 6, 1944, a first date, the death of a loved one. You know those moments in your life. As we celebrate Easter, we proclaim Jesus resurrection as THE moment that changed everything for everyone. The resurrection gave understanding to confused disciples, and hope to the hopeless. Jesus resurrection comforted the challenged and challenged the comfortable, (I wish I had come up with that phrasing, but, alas, I offer it as an unattributed borrowed phrase). The resurrection had the power to change people. Notice in the Gospels that it didn t change their circumstances. It changed THEM. Change. Metamorphous. It comes from a Greek word, metamorphoo. It is the word that both Matthew and Mark use to describe what happened to Jesus in the event we call the Transfiguration. Jesus resurrection transformed a disappointing group of tepid and craven followers into empowered and bold witnesses of the Good News. These 11 people proclaimed Jesus life, death, and resurrection and that Good News transformed lives. But, let s face it. It s easy for us to grasp how Jesus resurrection transformed the people born before the resurrection. But what about us? Jesus resurrection occurred nearly 2,000 years before we were born. How could it change us? Perhaps we can point to baptism as when the resurrection changes us. I was baptized as a teen, and I wasn t so different the next day. Most of you were baptized as infants. You weren t so different the next day, either. So, do we miss out on the transformative power of Christ s resurrection because we were born after it? Of course, the answer is no. And here s why. Jesus resurrection was a moment in time. But it lives in every moment, all the time. In our weary hopelessness, Jesus resurrection awaits to transform us into boldness. In our selfishness, the resurrection awaits to transform us into people who put others first. In our doubt, the resurrection awaits to transform us into faithful proclaimers of the Gospel. And, in those moments, we get the fleeting glimpses of the Kingdom over which our risen Lord reigns. A Kingdom that will come in its fullness when we share in Christ s resurrection. Read the Gospels. Study God s word. Be gathered with other believers in worship and prayer. Recall your baptism, or look with wonder toward it. See how the Holy Spirit has over-flowed your cup with blessings, and drink gladly from the spillage. Let your every moment be transformed by that moment in time in which all of Christ s promises came true. Have a blessed Easter season, friends. 2 Wednesday Morning Bible Study Everyone is welcome at the Wednesday morning Bible Study which meets at 9:15 a.m. Come early to get a goodie and a cup of coffee/tea. Pastor Steve leads the study and is open to questions and discussion. The deadline to receive a $25 discount on camp registration has been extended to April 17 th. Plan now to attend the dedication ceremony for the new lodge on Saturday, July, 16, Tentative plans are for a BBQ lunch to precede the ceremony scheduled for 2 pm. This is the same weekend as the Women s Retreat, so you can plan to attend the retreat and catch the dedication in the same trip! Luther Heights Bible Camp is looking to fill a few remaining male and female counselor positions for this summer. Counselors are one year out of high school or have completed at least their first year of college. The employment period is June 4 th August 13 th. $240 a week or $2,400 for the summer with room and board provided. 2 They are also looking for Health Care Professionals who could come up and work one week or longer and serve as the Camp Nurse. In exchange for their help up to two scholarships are available for their children or a stipend of $200. Also a Maintenance staff position is available. If you have a basic knowledge of home repair you could consider this position. The maintenance staff position is paid, with housing and board provided. There is also an opportunity volunteers to come to camp for a week or two at a time and take care of routine maintenance tasks. Housing and board will be provided to volunteer maintenance people.

4 OUR SAVIOR LUTHERAN COUNCIL MINUTES February 16, 2016 Call to Order: 7:03 Members Present: Paul Ortmann, Del McNary, Pastor Steve Crittenden, Steven Paulsen, Linda Watkins, Andy Hamblen, and Pam Yates. Approve Agenda: Pam 1 st, Paul 2 nd, approved. Minutes of previous meeting: Linda 1 st, Steven 2 nd, approved. Pastor s report: I will be gone this Sunday to Discipleship conference. Frank Dehoney will give sermon and Pam will lead service. We need to consider fill in pastors for communion Sundays. I will call for Synod availability as well as local pastors and retired pastors in churches nearby that we are in communion with. Old Business Annual Meeting Review: we thought it went well. We need to be prepared one month ahead of meeting so congregation has a chance to review and absorb information to be able to ask questions. Vote on Council Secretary: Paul will talk to Mary Belliston. Ministries Organization: We went over the outline of ministry groups and we will meet after church on Feb. 28 th to set up some formal committees when we have all had a chance to decide which groups we feel called to participate in. New Business Transitioning Check Signing: Paul will go in and verify that Scott should be taken off and Andy put on as a check signer. Easter Breakfast: Pastor Steve will ask the Andersons if they will head up the Easter Breakfast this year. Potato Bar: Pam will chair the Potato Bar this year and will see if April 9 th will work on the schedule. Beth s Review: 2015 was a difficult year with all the changes. We will look into either tutorials online or a class at CSI for Beth to help her streamline her work. We would pay for the class and pay Beth for her class time. Adjourn: Pam 1 st, 9:45.
