1 The Spirit of Immanuel M a r c h Now there are varieties of Gifts, but the same Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:4 Immanuel Lutheran Church Worship Services Sundays, 8:30 am Sunday School 9:30 am for Pre-school through High School Weekly Fellowship Choir and Chimes Prayer Chain You Matter. You might think you don t matter in this world, but because of you - Someone has a favorite mug to drink their tea out of each morning that you bought them. Someone hears a song on the radio and it reminds them of you. Someone has read a book you recommended to them and gotten lost in it s pages. Someone s remembered a joke you told them and smiled to themselves on the bus, or in their car. Someone s tried on a top and felt beautiful because you complimented them on it. Someone has a memory that makes them grin that involves you. Someone now likes themselves that little bit more because you made a passing comment that made them feel good. Never think you don t have an impact; your fingerprints can t be wiped away from the little marks of kindness that you ve left behind. My addition: Someone thinks of you each time they make a recipe that you shared with them. Sun, March 11 is the Northeast Conference Assembly, at Forrest. Guest speaker is Pastor Al Erickson on the subject of human trafficking. Thurs-Sat, June 7-9 is the Central/Southern Illinois Synod Champaign. Mon-Fri, June is Crossways Confirmation Camp (6 th -8 th grades). Mon-Sat, July is Leadership Lab (8 th grade and up).

3 Church Council Minutes January 8, 2018 ATTENDANCE: Dan Harms, Don Brucker, Pastor Tom, Tracy Harms, Dan Kukuck, Mike Petersen, Elton Mau, Terry Bose, Suzie Kukuck Pastor Tom opened the meeting with prayer. Secretary s Report: The December 11 th minutes were read. Tracy motioned to approve the minutes and Don seconded. Motion carried. Financial Reports: Mike went over the December Balance and Profit and Loss reports. Don moved to accept the reports and Dan K. seconded. Motion carried. Pastor s Report: See attached report. Council approved accepting Sophia Bose into the congregation. Her baptism is on January 14, Alicia Lebeau will also join the congregation at this time. Possibilities included the family of Daelin Tolan, the Prairie Central and Ridgeview school districts, funding for our JH/HS youth activities and a possible Mission trip in the future, and both of our local food pantries. 4 Activities WELCA WELCA PROJECTS for 2018 As we journey through this year we will include a reminder of past items as well as the current kits. January/February Bars of soap March Fabric Kits We will be collecting 3 yard lengths of 45 cotton fabric and 2 spools of matching thread! KNOTTING DATES: Knotting quilts on Mondays, March 5, 12, 19, and 26th from 8-11:00 am. Please join us!! Choir and Chimes During the next few weeks, while our director is on vacation, choir members have these options for rehearsals - Tuesdays, 6 pm at 1st Pres in Fairbury (Jamie Wilson, directing) Wednesday, March 7, 6:30 pm at Trinity Lutheran in Fairbury Wednesdays, March 14 & 21, 6:30 pm at St. Paul Lutheran in Forrest (maybe) Wednesday, March 28th will be a normal rehearsal at Immanuel. Choir will meet at 7:00 pm, Chimes at 7:45 pm to prepare for the Maundy Thursday service. Come when you can, but if you cannot make it to rehearsals, CDs are available with the Good Friday and Easter songs on them. Annual Spring Assembly of the Northeast Conference of the Central / Southern Illinois Synod St. Paul s Lutheran Church, Forrest, IL Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 2:00 5:30pm Human Trafficking Presents a Direct Challenge to Every Family and Every Congregation. In What Ways and With What Tools Must We Prepare Ourselves? Traffickers are professional schemers. They know the game they are playing and how to win. Not only do they know how to set up kids to be trafficked, but adults as well; how to get hooked on using Internet pornography. As long as there are customers, their efforts are being fueled by the vulnerable in our own congregations getting snared into these activities. What can be done? This workshop will introduce what congregations and families can do to equip those targeted. Come and learn how we can win this battle and save our young people and some adults from harm and misery. Pastor Al Erickson will be in our area to lead a workshop on this growing problem and educate us on the warning signs and ways to combat trafficking in our towns.
