Lasst uns erfreuen INVOCATION AND THE LORD S PRAYER (use debts ) ANTHEM And They Drew Nigh Leo Sowerby And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. And it came to pass, as he sat at meal with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and break and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. The morning waits come greet the rising sun. All nature sings to wake You from your slumber. Creation waits to hear Your answering call. Those cruel stripes once laid upon Your shoulder shall be a sign of hope for one and all. Long was the night, the darkness seemed unending. Hope went a-weeping, love was all forlorn. Then comes the dawn, and all the trees are bending to be the first to greet You on this morn. Rise up, my love, and greet Your weeping children. Dry all their tears and send their fears away. This Easter dawn shall be their lasting story, teach them the steps to dance into the day. 6 Thank you to each of you who have given generously to the Easter Offering! We have almost reached this year s $220,000 goal! For more than a month now, you have heard about amazing nonprofits doing the work of Jesus, like: Getting Out and Staying Out: a nonprofit dedicated to providing second chances for 16- to 24-year-olds through intervention within prison systems, supportive counseling, education and job readiness training, post-release. Search for Common Ground: an international nonprofit working to build sustainable peace on all sides of conflicts, by providing the needed tools to work together and find solutions. National Alliance on Mental Illness: the nation s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Thistle Farms (TF): started in 1997 by Rev. Becca Stevens, TF is a community of women who have survived prostitution, sex trafficking and addiction. Through a residential program and social enterprises, including a natural body care company, they provide referral and case management for more than 700 women, and employ more than 50 survivors receiving marketable skills and job readiness. These are just a few examples of the many worthy organizations we support annually through the Marble Easter Offering. Organizations like these that transform and save lives, and give hope in untold ways. If you have not yet given (or perhaps, can give a bit more), please help us reach our goal so that we may support the many nonprofit initiatives that feed the hungry, house the homeless, provide safety and new beginnings for vulnerable women and children, and promote peace and reconciliation. 100% of your gifts (Marble keeps nothing) will be given to carefully vetted nonprofits like these, serving here and around the world. Easter envelopes are still in pew racks, at Reception and the Marble Loft; you may drop in the offering plate or mail it back. You can also give via credit/debit card on the Giving Kiosk in the Loft, scan the QR code on the back of today s bulletin using your smartphone, or visit MarbleChurch.org. Last year, we were able to support more than 40 organizations in our city and the world, which work every day to assist those in need, and to be the voice of the marginalized and oppressed. In a world where many live in hunger, fear, oppression, uncertainty, and doubt, Jesus calls us to be His Easter people in a Good Friday world. Through the Easter Offering we can be those Easter people for those who are in need, and share with them what has been shared with us!

7 Caring for Creation Our Carbon Footprint Part of Marble s core values is Giving Back, to make a true difference in our neighborhood, city, and world. By doing so we not only transform the world around us but we transform ourselves. In our Christian stewardship of the earth, we become caretakers and can transform the environment in which we live for a better and safer future. In honor of Earth Day 2016, here are some ways to reduce your carbon footprint and improve the environment: Take a shower: This uses about 1/5 the energy as taking a bath, and uses less water too. Another option is to install a low flow shower head to limit amount of water used. Plant an organic garden: Not only does growing your own food make you a more conscientious global citizen, it has health benefits, brings a sense of satisfaction and if done well, monetary savings. For city dwellers with limited space, consider growing an indoor vertical garden wall. Unplug phone charger when not in use: According to US Department of Energy, appliances consume a significant amount of electricity even when switched off. Use cold water for laundry: This is especially true if you are washing or rinsing clothes. About 90% of energy used in the process goes towards heating water. Use a laptop instead of desktop: Laptops can use up to 80% less energy than a desktop. Buy local: This reduces amount of fuel required to get food from the farm to your fridge. Same concept goes for other goods and services as well. Replace lightbulbs with CFL bulbs: CFL (compact fluorescent) bulbs can last up to 15 times longer and use up to 80% less energy than regular lightbulbs. Switch to clean, renewable energy: One way to do this would be to research your energy providers and find one that uses green energy. Install ceiling fans: Using ceiling fans instead of air conditioning reduces carbon dioxide emissions. Use rechargeable batteries: This can shave almost 1,000 pounds off your carbon footprint by the time batteries die completely. Buy energy efficient appliances: For stoves and microwaves, there are several ways you can tell whether an appliance is energy efficient or not. One of these is to look for the Energy Star logo. Eat in-season produce: Out of season produce increases the costs of refrigeration significantly. Plant a tree: Not only do they provide shade and oxygen but they consume carbon dioxide at the same time. Drink less bottled water: Bottled water often travels long distances before you drink it. Use tap water for drinking purposes if your water is sanitary. Otherwise, use a home filter to purify it. Recycle: Recycling uses less energy and saves more resources than the energy required to drill for oil (which is used to make plastic) or cut down trees (which will instead capture carbon if they are not cut down). Read newspapers online and print double-sided: Saves paper. Turn off lights when room not in use: Conserves energy.
