(952) Bulletin Deadline Tuesdays at 12:00pm (week of the bulletin publication.) to: mkrawczak@stgabrielhopkins.org It s hard to believe that over a year ago, the idea of a regional Catholic School in the western suburbs was a vague concept. Here we are, a month into the inaugural year of Notre Dame Academy and the school is flourishing with 225 students! Here is what is going on at our new school: Our 5th grade class already had a field trip under their belt. They recently attended River Rendezvous. This annual festival is a chance to experience living history at the Pond-Dakota Mission Park in Bloomington, MN. Students learned about the lifestyles of people living in Minnesota between through story-telling and interactive, hands-on demonstrations. Our middle school spent a half day participating in a retreat facilitated by NET (National Evangelization Team) Ministries. This organization is a Catholic faith-based organization out of St. Paul that challenges young Catholics to love Christ and embrace the life of the church. In honor of St. Francis' devotion to all of God's living creatures, NDA held a "Blessing of the Animals" ceremony. The community sang He's got the Whole World and recited the St. Francis prayer. NDA students will have the opportunity to honor their Grandparents/Very Important People on Wednesday, October 23. The program, including school Mass and community meeting will begin at 8:30am with morning coffee Social and end after lunch recess. NDA will be wrapping up Parent-Teacher Conferences this week and Halloween festivities are right around the corner. Halloween parties will be held the last hour of the school day on October 31 and the Middle School Fall dance is scheduled for November 8. For more information about what is going on at NDA, please visit our website at nda-mn.org.

The Deceased: Please pray for the repose of the soul of Kathleen Reistad and pray for her family and friends who mourn her. Dear Parishioners, As we go through the cycle of readings every Sunday, we may notice that there are some themes that our Lord emphasizes again and again. You get the feeling that his disciples just didn t seem to understand the importance of what he was saying or understand exactly what he was trying to say, so he addresses it from many different angles whenever he has the opportunity. One of those themes appears to be the importance of prayer. Last week we heard about the importance of praying in gratitude with the cleansing of the lepers. And this weekend, we hear the story of the widow who received justice because she persevered in petitioning the dishonest judge. Again and again Jesus teaches us the importance of prayer, and he will keep teaching us until it finally sinks in. But while we all may appreciate that prayer is important, we may not know how to pray. The assumption is often made, You are baptized, you went to Catholic school/faith formation, you go to church you grew up Catholic, you must already know how to pray. And it s true, you may know how to pray the rosary or how to ask God for help, but there is more to prayer than that. Prayer is our personal and living relationship with the Triune God. It is the way in which we grow close to God and stay close to Him through the joys and sorrows of our lives. In The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, Matthew Kelly describes a routine of prayer that anyone can do, and that can help Catholics learn how to develop a vibrant prayer life. In this routine, there are seven steps: 1. Gratitude: Begin by thanking God in a personal dialogue for whatever you are most grateful for today. 2. Awareness: Revisit the times in the past twenty-four hours when you were and were not the best-version-of-yourself. Talk to God about these situations and what you learned from them. 3. Significant Moments: Identify something you experienced today and explore what God might be trying to say to you through that event or person. 4. Peace: Ask God to forgive you for any wrong you have committed (against yourself, another person, or Him) and to fill you with a deep and abiding peace. 5. Freedom: Speak with God about how He is inviting you to change your life, so that you can experience the freedom to be the-best-version-ofyourself. 6. Others: Lift up to God anyone you feel called to pray for today, asking God to bless and guide them. 7. Finish by praying the Our Father. These steps can take seven minutes or an entire hour the length of time is not as important as the quality of the time. If your prayer life could use some work, I encourage you to consider whether this routine might be helpful for you, pledge to pray in this way every day for the next week, and see if your relationship with God doesn t improve. What do you have to lose? -Fr. Liekhus 3

8 SAN GABRIEL ARCANGEL Confesiones, domingos 12;30pm Santa Misa, domingos 1:00pm Pastor: Rev.
