Stewardship-Sharing Our Treasure with the Community ICA IS THE MARCH RECIPIENT! The March Charitable Giving Collection is to be held on the weekend of March 14-15, The second collection will support our local ICA Food shelf. ICA s mission is to offer hope as they provide nutritional food and basic financial assistance to our neighbors in need. Their belief is that their presence in our community makes our neighborhoods more stable and secure. They share that work of assisting our neighbors in partnership with congregations, organizations, businesses and individuals like you in our communities. With our help they will be able to offer Hope, Love and Strength to our neighbors in need as they move to self-sufficiency. They continue to build on their current programs: job coaching (70 jobs found in 2014), SNAP (food assistance), the Mobile Food Shelf for seniors and backpacks filled with food for high school students along with the daily food distribution at K-tel. ICA appreciates your loyalty as they work to help unprecedented high numbers of families who seek their service. Checks are to be made out to St. Gabriel Church with ICA written on the memo line. Thank you for your generosity. (FYI Tours of K-tel Distribution Center are available. Call ICA at (952) ). 2

Pastoral Care Ministry If you are admitted to the hospital, please call the parish office so that the priest can offer you the sacrament of the sick and we can visit you if you would like. The hospitals do not call us, so we depend on you or your family and friends to call us at (952) Mary Fran Karanikolas, Pastoral Minister Dear Parishioners, Every year on the second Sunday of Lent, the Church reflects on Jesus Transfiguration. This is a story we re probably very familiar with: Jesus takes his closest disciples up the mountain with him, and is transfigured. His face shines like the sun, and he speaks with Moses and Elijah. Peter babbles on about building three tents, and then the voice of the Father interrupts him: This is my beloved Son; listen to him. The Transfiguration reveals to us the glory of Jesus. Jesus was the Son of God, and yet he looked like anybody else who was walking around 2000 years ago. You couldn t pick him out of a crowd as somebody special. He was always beautiful, of course, but it was an inner beauty, hidden to the outside world but visible to his Father. Then, for this brief moment, the veil was lifted, and the disciples saw Jesus for who he really was, the divine Son of God. Now, finally, his outward appearance reflected this inward reality in the Transfiguration. Being transfigured like that is God s plan for us. Jesus did not bring his disciples up the mountain with him just to show off. He wanted them to witness this event so that they would later understand that Jesus was leading the way for all of us, and we are all destined for what they saw. God wants us all in heaven, and if we get there, our bodies will be transfigured as well. We will be the same person, but we will be different. Our bodies will be radiant; they will be perfect, just as God intended them to be from the beginning. That will be a wonderful thing. But, of course, there s a catch. Before we can share in the glory of Christ, we have to share in his life here on earth. When we look closer at the Transfiguration, we are told that Jesus spoke with Moses and Elijah. In the gospel of Luke, we are told that they spoke about the exodus that Jesus would accomplish in Jerusalem. This exodus is the release from the slavery of sin that he would win for us on the cross. They spoke about his sacrificial love. That is the path to heaven. The person who lives a life in accord with the Father s will is the most beautiful person, even if that is not always obvious to us looking from the outside. We cannot always look at a person and tell that he/she is a saint. But God knows. When He told the prophet Samuel to go to the house of Jesse to find the next king, Samuel was surprised that He chose David instead of one of his brothers, who were all taller, stronger and more handsome. But God said to Samuel, You are judging by outward appearance; I judge a person by the inside, by what is in his heart. If we share in Christ s life here on earth, God will one day make our outward appearance reflect that inward beauty, when the glory of God shines through us all in heaven. So let us look forward to that day and strive to be a beautiful person, not in the judgment of the world, but in the judgment of God. Fr. Liekhus Put your Faith into Action - Knights of Columbus SERVING HOPKINS SINCE 1921 Meeting Tuesday, March 10 at 7:00pm in Leo s Den at St. John campus. All Knights are welcome! These are often exactly the places where Jesus calls us to be. 8 SAN GABRIEL ARCANGEL Confesiones, domingos 12:30pm Santa Misa, domingos 1:00pm Pastor: Rev.
