We are entering the holiest week of the year, when we celebrate the central mysteries of our Catholic faith. So it is fitting that this is when we celebrate the sacraments of initiation with those who have chosen to enter into the Catholic faith. At the (bilingual) Easter Vigil this Saturday, we will have 12 catechumens who will be baptized, confirmed and will receive their first communion. We also have a handful of candidates who are baptized Christians and are converting to the Catholic faith. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare to become the newest members of our faith! Fr. Liekhus DECORATING FOR EASTER SUNDAY Volunteers are needed to help transform our sanctuaries from joyful Palm Sunday and then glorious Easter. If you would like to help, please join us at St. Joseph campus on Saturday, April 15 at 9:00am to decorate for Easter. Stewardship-Sharing Our Treasure with the Community HOLY THURSDAY The Holy Thursday collection on April 13, 2017 will be for Families Moving Forward. We hosted Families Moving Forward at St. John campus the week of April 2, Meals and a safe place to stay are provided to the participants while they are searching to get back on their feet and provide a home for their family. Please be generous with your support GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION ON APRIL 14 Pope Francis has asked our parish to support Christians in the Holy Land. Through the Good Friday Collection, you join with Catholics around the world to stand in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace in a troubled land. In these challenging times in the Middle East, your support means that our church will conduct parish ministry, provide Catholic education, feed the hungry, build housing for Christians, maintain shrines and operate refugee centers in the Holy Land. Christians, along with all the clergy and religious who serve in the Holy Land, will deeply appreciate your prayers and financial help! The political, religious and military challenges in the Holy Land are more complex than ever. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. Our parish will support Christians in the Holy Land through the Good Friday Collection as requested by Pope Francis. 5 Parish News April 9, 2017, Sixth Sunday of Lent, Palm Sunday, Year A Matthew 21:1-11; Isaiah 50:4-7; Philippians 2:6-11; The Passion According to Matthew 26:14-27:66 Today, in our world, many people see Jesus as he is: Our Lord and Savior. The people of biblical times had seen Jesus for three years. They were aware of his miracles, witness his healings, heard him forgive sinners and listened to him teach. Many came to believe he was the Messiah. In today s gospel, they gave him a king s welcome. Jesus entered Jerusalem astride an ass. This was sign of coming in peace and humbleness. He was not a king seeking earthly power; he just wanted to win the hearts of the people. As we listen to The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mathew, we must see his humbleness: His willingness to accept death, death on a cross, for our sins. We know it was through this act that the gates of heaven were opened wide. All who obeyed the will of God were now able to enter the kingdom. And, yes, from that time on, those who sought forgiveness for their sins were also welcomed to the kingdom. The story of the passion of Jesus calls us to prayer--- prayers of thanksgiving. As we read from Paul a few weeks ago, While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. What a gift! Now we are in Holy Week, an important time of meditation and prayer: A time to reflect on how much we are loved by the Lord. Proper preparation, bring ourselves to the highest level of grace, will have us ready to celebrate the wonder and holiness of the resurrection. DIVINE MERCY DVD JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU is the title of the DVD we will show April 22 in the social hall at St. Joseph campus at 6:30pm. Attend the 4:30pm Mass, then Loaves & Fishes! PRAY THE ROSARY ACCL-A Community Caring for Life-asks that we pray the fifth decade of the Sorrowful Mysteries this week, the Crucifixion, with this USCCB Respect Life Intention. The Crucifixion: For an end to the death penalty and for the release of all prisoners of conscience and all who have been wrongly convicted. April Cursillo Ultreya Western Ultreya will be held on Sunday, April 9 at St. Hubert Catholic Community in Chanhassen. The speakers will be Gary & Holly Martini. SPRING RUMMAGE SALE May 4: from 9:30am 8:00pm, May 5: from 9:30am 5:00pm, May 6: from 9:30am 12:00pm We take everything except: TV sets, large stereo sets, consoles, computers, carpeting, microwaves, appliances, baby car seats (not allowed to sell them), old tires and wheels, large windows, box springs and mattresses, water beds, used toilets, toxic chemicals/paint and hide-a-beds. Furniture must be in good condition. Pick up is available Monday through Wednesday morning. WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE VOLUNTEERS!! There are a variety of jobs for all to do, especially sorting and pricing. There are even sit down jobs for those who cannot stand for a long time. Men are needed to work with the hardware and furniture areas. Another opportunity to volunteer, especially men, is for set up on Friday, April 22 and teardown at 12:00pm on Saturday, April 30. Food donations are always very much appreciated from Saturday until Friday. It takes a lot of food to feed all the people needed to run the sale. 6 Youth Formation & School News FAITH FORMATION NEWS LAST CONFIRMATION SESSION AND REHEARSAL APRIL 9 Our last Confirmation prep session will be on Sunday, April 9, 6:00pm in the Community Room at St. John. Part of the session will be spent rehearsing sponsors, you DO have a role to play! Candidates should come with their sponsor, if possible. NO FAITH FORMATION CLASSES THIS WEEK There will not be middle school or high school ministry sessions on Wednesday, April 12 and no Nursery, Pre- School, or Children s Ministry on Sunday, April. 16. Classes resume Wednesday, April 19 and Sunday, April 23. CALLING ALL GOLFERS interested in playing in a Men's Golf League? A long established Christian men's golf league started through St Therese's Parish of Deephaven plays nine holes every Thursday starting April 20 at Pioneer Creek Golf Course.
