Therefore, it is not a holy day of obligation this year this year. School Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9, instead of Wednesday, Dec. 11, because of the feast day. BULLETIN SUBMISSIONS There was an early bulletin deadline for the Dec. 1 bulletin. All submissions for the Dec. 1 bulletin were due at noon on Monday, Nov. 18. All articles must be ed to rep@sfdslg.org or submitted in writing to the parish office. The normal deadline is at noon on the Monday before publication.

3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Dear Parishioners, The Advent Season is a season of hope, a time to help us to prepare our minds and hearts for the coming of Christ. Unfortunately, in our fast-paced society, it is a season that often gets lost. There is so much that happens during this time of year! Students are rushing to finish papers and exams, families are busy shopping and making preparations for holiday gatherings, and stores and shops are open extra hours to accommodate their patrons. With all the activity, it requires a conscious effort to remain focused on the true meaning of the Advent/Christmas season that God loved us so much that he sent his only Son to redeem us. Fortunately, Advent is filled with celebrations and activities to help us maintain that focus in the midst of our busy lives. This year, on Dec. 9 we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a day to remind us that she who was chosen to be the Mother of the Savior was conceived without sin, in order to be a worthy vessel of God s most precious gift. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is Dec. 12, commemorating the appearance of the Virgin Mary to St. Juan Diego, assuring the people of God s love and mercy. The Sundays during the Advent Season present us with Scriptural readings that inspire us with hope as we await the coming of the Lord. Don t let Advent get away from you! Desafortunadamente, olvidamos fácilmente la importancia de este tiempo. Es que hay siempre muchas actividades antes de la Navidad. Estamos preparándonos para fiestas, y preocupándonos con regalos y compras de comida. Es bien difícil mantener el enfoque en el significado del tiempo de Adviento y la Navidad el hecho de que Dios nos amó tanto que nos dio su propio Hijo para salvarnos. Pero, gracias a Dios, hay varias festividades y actividades durante el Adviento para recordarnos de la venida del Salvador. Celebraremos la fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción el 9 de diciembre en este año, recordando a María concebida sin pecado original, la mujer digna para ser Madre de nuestro Salvador. If you are uncomfortable using a computer, please call Joan Huml at HELP NEEDED The Art and Environment Committee is asking for your help in decorating our place of worship for the upcoming seasons. Please mark your calendar for the following date. Monday, Dec. 23, at 3 p.m. we will be decorating for Christmas. We especially are in need of some strong men and teenage boys on this date. Even if you can only come for an hour, it is helpful. MISSING A DISH? If you have provided food for a parish function and are missing your container, please check the table in the parish center. Your dish may be there! PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS Lord, hold our troops in Your loving hands. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us. Protect those who are stationed overseas, especially Michael Zagorski, who is in the in the Army Special Forces; Micah Lichtenauer, who is with the U.S. Army in Kuwait; and Michael Reynders, U.S. Navy. COME, LORD JESUS! Do you want to learn how to pray better? Do you want to deepen your spirituality? Fr. Jim will show you how this Advent. He will share his expertise on prayer and spirituality during a three-week class entitled Come, Lord Jesus! CHILDREN S CHRISTMAS CHOIR All children of the parish in grades 3-8 are invited to participate in the Children s Christmas Choir. The Choir will sing for the 4 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass. All must attend three rehearsals on Saturdays in December from 9 to 11 a.m., as well as be at St. Francis de Sales on Christmas Eve at 2:30 p.m. for warm-ups. Sign up by filling out a red sheet on the rack by the Chapel Entrance and returning it to the parish office by Dec. 1. WORLD AIDS DAY An Interfaith Service of Remembrance on World AIDS Day will take place on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. at Three Holy Women Parish (Holy Rosary Site), 2011 North Oakland Ave., Milwaukee. 5 RINGING THE BELLS Once again St. Francis de Sales parish will be Ringing the Bells for the Salvation Army. There is a signup sheet in the parking lot entrance to the church. The dates will be Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 14, 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. Please consider giving an hour of your time to help those less fortunate. A total of 80 percent of the money collected stays in Walworth County, providing emergency help to families or individuals. HELP ST FRANCIS DE SALES HELP YOURSELF According to Internal Revenue Service (IRS) individuals older than 70 ½ years old are required to start taking minimum withdrawals from IRA, 401K and several other retirement accounts. If you are in this situation please consider designating St Francis de Sales, or one of its ministries, as the direct recipient of this distribution. With this designation, the money transfers tax free from your retirement account to St. Francis de Sales rather than being included in your taxable ordinary income. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS The Knights of Columbus will be collecting items to be donated to the Sentiments for Seminarians Program. Since they are not paid and have no jobs or vacations, it s difficult for seminarians to obtain simple items such as: toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, antiperspirant, personal care items, shaving cream, aftershave, razors, soap, shampoo, gloves, scarves, winter hats, Ziploc bags, small food storage containers, Windex, cleaning items, tissue, paper towel, pens, pencils, notebooks, paper, stationary, gas and gift cards. What a great way it would to say Happy Thanksgiving or Merry Christmas to a seminarian here is Wisconsin if you could donate one or two of these items for them. During the weekend of Nov. 30, simply place your items in the container in back of the church and the Knights of the Parish will take care of collecting them and delivering them to Archbishop Listecki to be distributed to our seminaries here in the Milwaukee Archdiocese. JEWELRY SALE TO BENEFIT YOUTH MINISTRY PROGRAM The Youth Ministry program will be selling religious jewelry and rosaries to help raise money for the program after all Masses the weekends of both Dec. 7 and 8 and 14 and 15. Please check out our display after Mass and see what we have. Whether you need a new rosary, a crucifix, saint medal, ring, bracelet, necklace or other shiny reminder of your faith, our wider-than-ever variety should meet your needs or make the perfect gift for Christmas. SPECIAL COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND FOR OUR SISTER PARISH IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Thanks to your support La Sagrada Familia has been able to provide two meals daily to 170 malnourished children in the Nutrition Center. We have also been able to distribute first aid and basic medicines through 18 rural pharmacies for a population of 30,000 people. You have helped us prepare catechists and leaders to instruct more than 900 adults and children for baptism during the year. Similar to your parish, we have dreams for the future. We d like to build a chapel in a village with 275 families who will contribute their labor to this place of worship which also helps to give them a community identity. We d like to provide our students with a place and equipment for after school study. Education can break the cycle of poverty. Thank you for considering our dreams and hopes for the future. Fr. There will be many shapes and sizes to choose from. All proceeds will help fund the 8 th Grade trip to Washington, D.C. Thanks for your support! ANGEL FUND St. Francis de Sales Parish School is benefited by the Angel Fund. This is a designated fund that was started to help families of our day school program who are in need of tuition assistance. It is funded by donations from generous parishioners and by bequests. If a school family is in need of tuition assistance, they apply to a company called TADS. This application can be done either online or on paper, and it is completely confidential. Applications are available in either the school or parish offices. TADS make a financial determination as to how much tuition the family can be expected to pay and sends this information to Father Jim and Mr. Wieters. They will then contact the family and make further arrangements. If you would like to donate to this worthy cause, please use the pink envelopes in your packets, or earmark your check or cash for the Angel Fund. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! The Squires is designed to develop young men as Catholic leaders who understand their Catholic religion. Our own Lake Geneva Knights of Columbus Council #1647 is interested in organizing and sponsoring a Squires program. Squires do many things: They meet new friends; they travel, play sports and socialize. Squires are seriousminded, too. Squires are involved in promoting vocations, marching in defense of unborn life, feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, supporting Special Olympics and promoting Catholic education, among countless other activities. Thus, the Squires circle is an athletic team, a youth group, a social club, a cultural and civic improvement association, a management training course, a civil rights organization and a spiritual development program all rolled into one. NEW DENTAL CLINIC TO HELP THOSE IN NEED Community Health Systems of Wisconsin, in collaboration with Inspiration Ministries of Walworth and Walworth County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), are pleased to announce the anticipated Dec. 2 opening of a new dental clinic in Walworth County. The new clinic will be situated on the grounds of Inspiration Ministries, located on the corner of Highways 67 and F just outside of Williams Bay. The clinic will be staffed by dentists and dental hygienists from Community Health Systems of Wisconsin in Beloit. The clinic will be open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The new clinic will accept patients who have Wisconsin Medicaid (Forward Health), Badger Care Standard Plan, SCHIP and Benchmark, and also offer a sliding fee schedule for families not on the State supported assistance program. The clinic will offer preventive and general dentistry services. The dental clinic will initially open with a two-day -per-week schedule and have a limited number of appointments available. Due to the anticipated demand for these dental services, reservations are required for appointment times.
