3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK... Dear Parishioners, This Sunday s Gospel (John 21:1-19) narrates the story of the disciples after the resurrection of Jesus. Peter decided to return to his old way of life, and told his friends that he was going fishing, and the others agreed to join him. They fished all night without catching anything, until dawn, when they saw the resurrected Lord on the shore. Jesus instructed them to cast their nets over the right side of the boat, and when they did, they caught an abundance of fish. It became very clear to the disciples that without the Lord, they could do nothing. Once on the shore, Jesus spoke with Peter, who had three times denied him. Here, Jesus gave Peter the opportunity to proclaim his unfailing love for him. Peter could never go back to his old way of life. He could no longer earn his living as a fisherman. Instead, Jesus commissioned his to be the shepherd of his flock with the words, Feed my sheep. And Peter and the other Apostles went forth to gather all people into one fold. This Gospel story teaches us that once we experience the risen Christ in our lives, we are invited to a new way of life free from the chains of sin and selfishness. We are called to be self-giving, charitable and faithful. We ask God to bless us as we proclaim Christ s resurrection by our words and deeds. God s Blessings, Fr. 4 CHURCH RENOVATION Vision Statement: We, the Community of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Parish, seek to glorify and honor God by preserving, renewing and caring for the physical treasures that have been entrusted to us by our ancestors in faith. Through restoring and renovating our worship space we will enrich the prayer experience of our faith community both now, and for generations to come. Questions & Answers: Q: Is it possible to remove the seating signs about where people can and cannot sit? A: Some of the signs about seating are placed at the request of the Fire Marshall and those definitely cannot be moved! Others, such as those requesting that the Chapel be used only by those with special needs and small families, are there as reminders of the special nature of those seating areas. It would be nice to do away with the signs, but we need a way to communicate the nature of those seating areas, and at this time signs are the best way. If you have a suggestion on how to improve the communication, please share, as this is an area that could use improvement. Q:Will Parishioners be informed of restoration and renovation updates via the bulletin or just the internet? A: Yes! We are publishing all Questions and Answers received in the bulletin, and as updates occur they will either be included in the bulletin proper or as an insert for lengthier items. Further open forum meetings will be scheduled, as well, and those will be announced at Mass. Certain materials which are lengthier and not feasible to print for distribution, such as the transcript of the last Open Forum Meeting, are available online. Q:When the pews are replaced will the seating remain in a straight pattern or would it be possible to use an alternative pattern such as curved or angled to increase capacity and / or visibility? A: When a Church is designed from the start with curved seating in mind, the capacity oftentimes is greatly increased. However, it requires a design with this seating in mind, because the seating pattern determines the aisle placement and size, as well the placement of the Altar, Ambo and Presider. After consulting with pew design experts, we determined that if we installed curved pews, we would actually decrease our seating capacity! In addition, curved pews cost up to 1/3 more than straight pews. It is possible that could angle the pews slightly, however, without decreasing our seating capacity. Q:Can the glass window and doors between the Chapel and main Church be removed to improve visibility? A:When the Chapel was added, the glass was added to allow the Chapel to function as a separate space. We are hoping to retain this arrangement and improve on it so that the Chapel can eventually be used as a dedicated cry room space for young families, which is a much needed feature in our Church. St. Francis de Sales Parish in Lake Geneva has been blessed with a wonderful treasure. We are proud of our heritage as a faithful Roman Catholic Parish, and have a beautiful worship space which has been passed down to us by previous generations of faith-filled Catholics, who sacrificed much so that the work of the Church is able to continue in us and through us! We are called to care for this space as part of our spiritual treasure, as we are ever-called closer to God through our prayer and our celebration of the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. A question box is in the chapel entryway. Questions/suggestions can also be ed to churchreno@sfdslg.org. Updates will be published in the bulletin and at ( The renovation/restoration project is currently in the planning stage.

5 PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO HOLY HILL Tuesday, May 21 The Bishops of Wisconsin have invited us to make a Pilgrimage of Faith during this Year of Faith and have approved three Wisconsin Marian shrines for these pilgrimages. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS The Care Net Family Resource Center was able to launch a new ultrasound program, thanks to major funding from the Knights of Columbus. Eight councils from Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties raised a total of $12,000 for the machines and additional $6,000 for ancillary costs. The Knights Supreme Council matched local fundraising with another $27,000. Care Net was able to place an order for not one but two ultrasound machines.
