3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Parish, In the year 2017, we as a faith community will be celebrating our 175th Anniversary. That s 175 years of initiating people into the faith, forming them in the ways of the Lord 175 years of proclaiming the Word and administering the Sacraments. This holy place has been and continues to be the place where vows are exchanged, bread is broken, sins are forgiven and souls are healed. This is a sacred place this is holy ground. Two weeks ago, I announced at each of the Masses that we would be undertaking a renovation project to prepare for our 175th Anniversary. Our plan is to transform our worship space and restore many of the beautiful aspects of our historic church, brightening the sanctuary area, repainting and repairing the walls and ceilings of the church, refurbishing the pews, and replacing the flooring. It is an ambitious and exciting plan titled, Project 2017 Lighting the Way to the Future. Since our announcement weekend, many people have stepped forward to volunteer to help with the project. If you are willing to help in some way, there are volunteer cards available at the church entrances. Please fill them out and turn them in at the church office or drop them into the collection basket. I would invite and encourage you to come to our Campaign Kickoff Event today, Sunday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. in our Parish Center as we present a thorough overview of our project and its importance for current and future ministry. Join us as we initiate this exciting project, lighting the way to the future! CREATIVE GIVING SEMINAR Please join us on Thursday, June 16 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Center for a Creative Giving seminar being held in conjunction with our Project 2017 Capital Campaign. The seminar is designed to inspire unique giving approaches to help fund the restoration of our church. There will be a short 20 minute presentation followed by a question and answer session, as well as complimentary appetizers, beer and wine tasting! We will have finance professionals available to help answer or provide direction on your questions. RSVP s are encouraged, or you can sign up at our upcoming Campaign Kick Off on Sunday, June 12. Es un plan ambicioso y emocionante que se llama Alumbrando el Camino Hacia el Futuro. Desde el momento del anuncio de este proyecto, varias personas se han acercado para ser voluntarios para este proyecto. Cerca de las entradas de la iglesia, hay tarjetas de consentimiento voluntario. God is generous to us and our generosity, as St. Paul tells us, gives proof of our gratitude towards God. (Mt. 10:8) Two weeks ago, Project 2017 was introduced...plans to restore and beautify the sacred dwelling place of St. Francis de Sales parish...our parish. As we thank God for the many blessings of our lives, please pray and discern how you may support this very special endeavor, in celebration of our 175th anniversary! 5 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) What is HELP? The Hospital Elder Life Program is a service provided by Aurora Lakeland Medical Center and Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington to improve the hospital experience of older patients. The program is dedicated to providing personalized care for seniors by supporting and encouraging independence. Why? Being in the hospital upsets normal routines of mental and physical activity just at the time a person is coping with illness. The Hospital Elder Life Program helps keep the mind and body as active as possible in spite of illness. What do we do? Specially trained volunteers provide extra care to older adults in the hospital including: Daily Volunteer Visits, Meal-time Assistance, Early Mobilization, Recreational Activities, Fluid Balance and Sleep and Rest. Contraception: Why Not DVD - In this talk, given to a young audience, Prof Janet E. With convincing analysis, wit, and wisdom, Dr. Smith provides tools to talk about sex outside of marriage with logic and confidence. BLOOD DRIVE There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, June 17, from noon to 5:00 p.m. in the Parish Center. Walk-ins are welcome. CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS NEWS The Catholic Daughters enjoyed a wonderful evening of reflection at St. Benedict's Abbey with Mass, Vespers and a delightful meal. Our last meeting will be June 20, in the parish center at 6 p.m. Please join us! Call (262) with questions. HILLTOPPERS NEWS Calling all seniors, join us for a pot luck lunch the fourth Tuesday of every month. Bring a store bought or homemade item. Names of the donors and all fathers, both living and deceased, will be listed in the bulletin. Proceeds will benefit the charities supported by the Catholic Daughters of America. The cost of a single gladiola is $5.00. A family bouquet priced at $50.00 each also will be available. This decorative bouquet, which will include gladiolas, will be prominently displayed in the church. The donor s family last name(s) only will be featured on the arrangement. In addition, the donor s name(s) and a listing of up to 10 fathers, both living and deceased, will lead our honor roll in the bulletin.
