3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK... Dear Parishioners, Of all the stories told during the Christmas Season, few capture the imagination as powerfully as the story of the Magi. It is a story of wise men from the East inspired by a star to leave the comfort of their palaces to seek a newborn king in a foreign land. The Magi s quest took them through deserts and over mountains. They made their way through cities and towns as they followed the star. They did not find their king on a lofty mountain peak or in a bright palace. Rather, the star came to rest over the slums of a seemingly forsaken town and there they found Him. With gifts in hand, they bowed down to worship before a poor and vulnerable child, sensing the presence of God in one who was small and defenseless. The story of the Magi reminds us that we are all seekers searching for divine love and lasting peace. Where do we seek our God? If we follow the star as the Magi did, and commit ourselves to the long journey, our quest will lead us to find God among the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalized. What gifts will we offer when we find our God there? Our generosity, love and compassion are worth more than gold, frankincense and myrrh to those in need. May the light of faith inspire us to seek God s love and presence in this world! God s Blessings, Fr. Si seguimos la estrella como los Magos, buscaremos la presencia de Dios entre los pobres y humildes de este mundo. Y cuales son los regalos que ofreceremos? Nuestra generosidad, nuestro amor y nuestra compasión valen más que oro, incienso y mirra para los más necesitados. 4 EPIPHANY CELEBRATION OF LESSONS & CAROLS Sunday, Jan. 6, at 1:00 p.m. As we celebrate the Feast of Epiphany and bring the Christmas Season to a close, we gather together to proclaim Christ to the world. Join us as we share our stories, our songs and our prayers of faith. The St. Francis de Sales Christmas Choir will share the music and song of Christ s coming. We will sing together the Carols of Christmas. We will hear again the Proclamation of Christ s Birth, and the stories of Christmas and Epiphany. We will pray together for the coming of Christ into the hearts of all people. Reception to Follow in the Parish Center. ITALIAN FEST Saturday, Jan. 19 St. Francis de Sales Parish Center Back By Popular Demand! St. Francis de Sales will once again host Italian Night on Saturday, Jan. 19, in our Parish Center. Make your plans with family and friends to attend a night of Food and Fun. EUCHARISTIC REFLECTION The Year of Faith continues until November 24, This special year began on Oct. 11, 2012, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II) and also the 20th anniversary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. During the Year of Faith, Catholics are asked to study and reflect on the documents of Vatican II and the catechism so that they may deepen their knowledge of the faith. In the coming months, we will reflect on the Eucharist mainly as it is presented in the Catechism, Vatican documents, and Pope Benedict XVI s writings during this special year. BIBLE STUDY GROUP The St. Francis Bible Study Group will begin a new session that will meet each Wednesday morning at 10 a.m., beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 16. Our first course will be Introduction To The Bible. This class is designed for anyone who has never studied the Bible before and also for those who have been involved in Bible study groups, but who have never had a comprehensive overview of the various aspects of the Bible. This class will help us to have the fundamental understanding needed to continue reading and studying the Bible as a regular part of our lives as Catholic Christians. CELL PHONE COLLECTION The Knights of Columbus have placed a cell phone recycling box in the parish library to raise funds for Wisconsin Special Olympics. Thank you for thinking of this fundraiser whenever you are ready to toss out your cell phone. SHEPHERDS OF CHRIST ASSOCIATES We will not meet from now through January. Please join us for prayers beginning again at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6. LAKELAND NURSING HOME SCHEDULES Lakeland Nursing Home schedules are in the rack in the chapel entrance. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS On Jan. 7, at 7 p.m., the members of the Knights of Columbus will have their monthly meeting at the American Legion Hall at 75 Henry St. in Lake Geneva. Prior to the meeting there will be an initiation ceremony for new members. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Knights or have any questions about the Knights, please contact Bill Rorig ( ) or Ken Cramer ( ). Any man over 18 years old and a practicing Catholic is eligible to join the Knights of Columbus. If you have any scheduling problems, special arrangements can be made. Your support and attendance at the monthly breakfasts held here at St. Francis de Sales on the second Sunday of each month helps fund the charitable activities of the Knights. With your help the Knights are able to contribute locally to the Parish School, the Religious Education Program, The Youth Ministry, The Food Pantry, the Mentally Impaired and Physically Handicapped and more. The Knights of Columbus are proud to announce that Bill Meyerhofer was chosen as the Knight of the Year for his outstanding service to the Knights and to the St. Francis de Sales Parish.

Ministry of Mothers Sharing is an opportunity for women of all ages interested in developing their personal spirituality, relationship skills and prayer life. Starting in January, eight-week sessions of Ministry of Mothers Sharing will begin. Monday evenings, Jan. 14 through March 4, from 6 to 9 p.m., in Spanish. Wednesday mornings, Jan. 16 through March 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. in English. Thursday evenings, Jan. 17 through March 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. in English. FRANCIS DE SALES SCHOOL RECEIVES ACCREDITATION The Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Religious and Independent Schools Accreditation (WRISA) is pleased to announce the accreditation of St. Francis de Sales School located in Lake Geneva. St. Francis de Sales School has proven compliance with WRISA educational standards and is a member in Good standing. We applaud the accomplishments of the St. Francis de Sales School community and its commitment ot ongoing school improvement and high standards of excellence, said Beatrice Weiland, WRISA s executive director. All religious and independent schools in Wisconsin that have been in operation with students for at least two years and meet extensive eligibility criteria may apply to WRISA for entry into the accreditation process, said Weiland. Schools must complete a comprehensive yearlong self study, host a site visit by a team of peers and develop and implement a long range plan for school improvement. Schools that are accredited enter a seven-year cycle. During that time, they submit annual reports to the Board of Directors that detail their progress in meeting their yearly goals. In the sixth year of their cycle schools conduct a new self study. This is followed by another site visit and the submittal of a new visiting team report and Long Range Plan to the WRISA Board of Directors in the seventh year.
