3 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Dear Parishioners, Last Sunday we celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany, recalling the Magi who followed the star and found the New Born King in the town of Bethlehem. Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, recalling Jesus baptism in the river Jordan a feast which marks the end of the Christmas Season. It truly was a wonderful Christmas Season, marked by joyful liturgical celebrations. I would like to thank all those who contributed their time and talent to make our Christmas services beautiful and prayerful events. Thank you, also, for the Christmas cards, gifts and special prayers. When Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan by John the Baptist, a voice came from above saying, This is my beloved Son; with whom I am well pleased. (Matthew 3:17b) Today we celebrate our faith in Christ, the anointed Servant of God. Rising from the waters, Jesus began his ministry of healing, teaching and proclaiming the Good News of salvation. We, the baptized, share in the mission of Christ. We are called to spread the Good News through our actions of justice, charity and love. May we be inspired to renew our baptismal commitment daily, in order to carry out the will of God in this world. God s Blessings, Fr. 4 IN OUR PRAYERS Our prayers go out to the Bauman family, parishioners here at St. Francis de Sales, who lost their home and all its contents, including their two cars, in a fire on Sunday, Jan. 5. Tim and Natalie Bauman, and their two sons, Riley and Zachary, who are in fifth and third grades at Woods School, and their dog, Lila, all made it out of the house safely and uninjured. To help the family by providing clothing, household items, toys, gift cards or monetary donations, contact Michele Teale at micheleteale1@gmail.com or (262) To donate food or a meal, contact Juli Henrie at (815) For more information on how you can help the family, go to PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS Lord, hold our troops in Your loving hands. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us. Protect those who are stationed overseas, especially Michael Zagorski, who is in the in the Army Special Forces; Micah Lichtenauer, who is with the U.S. Army in Kuwait; and Michael Reynders, U.S. Navy. LITURGICAL CONGRESS 2014 RENOVATION AND REPAIRS In previous bulletin articles, you learned of the need to remove mold and asbestos from the basement of the church. The dumpsters in the parking lot illustrate that this work is now progressing. The mold resulted from water flow issues on the front, west side of the church and the parking lot between the church and school. During the past summer and fall you witnessed the changes which successfully corrected these structural and landscaping flaws. The mold remediation demands the removal and cleanup of the walls, flooring and doors in the bride s area in the basement and certain ducting insulation materials. Asbestos issues resulted from a long-ago conversion of the heating system for the church proper. At that time, asbestos used as an insulating material on the old system was not removed from the basement. This current removal will be done in compliance with current EPA standards by our contractor, Integrity Environmental Services, Inc. of Waukesha, WI. Recall as reported previously in the bulletin, an air quality survey indicated that these issues were confined to the basement and did not impact the church proper. We appreciate your patience for any inconvenience this work may cause. BULLETIN SUBMISSIONS All articles for the bulletin must be ed to rep@sfdslg.org or submitted in writing to the parish office. The deadline is at noon on Monday. BIBLE STUDY GROUP The St. Francis De Sales Bible Study group will start the new winter session on Wednesday, Jan. 15. It said that she was a young Catholic mom in grave danger of dying as a result of complications during childbirth. What? I asked myself. How often does that happen anymore? Hers must be a really unusual case. And so it was. --Patrick Madrid, publisher of Envoy Magazine, author of Search and Rescue, and editor of the Surprised by Truth series. In her honest work, The Day I Died, Melanie Pritchard tells the harrowing tale of her sudden death and miraculous healing through the remarkable accounts of those who witnessed it and those closest to her. With powerful insight, Melanie touches on the myriad of emotions and reactions to her miracle, which is approachable to anyone who has experienced tragedy or suffering. By defining her miraculous experience through faithful trust in Christ, the extraordinary reality of God s mercy comes shining through. Melanie Pritchard is the Executive Director of the Foundation for Life and Love and owner of Refuge Clothing Co. She speaks nationwide to thousands on the topics of faith, modesty, chastity, pro-life issues and marriage. Since experiencing an amniotic fluid embolism in July 2010, Melanie is now the Director of Communications for the AFE Foundation. FRANCIS DE SALES PARISH SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWS Our annual St. Francis de Sales Parish School Christmas program was held Dec. 17. This year s performance, as always, was very well attended and received. We are extremely proud of our students for their hard work and performance. Congratulations on an outstanding concert to Cathleen Nateghi, our St. Francis de Sales School Music Teacher, for all the work above and beyond that went into this production (made even more difficult by the fact that she was doing so with a torn ACL). Her surgery went well and she is recovering nicely! She also wanted to thank everyone for the great job on the Christmas Program! Special thanks also go out to accompanist Teresa Kiefer for her assistance! FREE BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING The last month has been a very busy time for most, and it probably included many great foods. Now that you are thinking of starting out the new year with a few new resolutions, please come and visit one of our parish nurses to have your blood pressure checked. And please consider visiting us the second Sunday of every month! Our nurses will be offering free blood pressure evaluations TODAY, Sunday, Jan. 12, in the Parish Office from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. Feb. 9 will be the next time the free blood pressure screenings will be offered. IN LOVING MEMORY Born to eternal rest Paul Arthur Dybowski ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO HIM, O LORD, AND MAY PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM.
