RCIA If you have not been baptized or were baptized but have not received First Eucharist, Reconciliation or Confirmation, please contact Sheila Mahoney at or call the Parish Center. Infant Baptisms The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated with parent and godparent catechesis on the first Sunday of the month and Baptisms usually on the second and fourth Sunday at 2:00pm. Call the Parish Center to register. Marriage Arrangements should be made at least 6 months prior to the intended date of the wedding. Please call the Parish Center to schedule your date and make an appointment to speak with one of the priests. Anointing of the Sick The church encourages all who are ill, about to undergo surgery, or confined to their home due to illness be to prayed over and anointed with sacred oil. This can take place at a parish Mass, or in the home or in the hospital. Please do not wait for the last moment for yourself or a loved one to be anointed and by all means speak to a priest for more information or details. 3 This weekend as we celebrate Mother s Day, families will be gathering, gifts and flowers will be delivered, and how many cards with beautiful verses will be sent! Yes it is wonderful to remember our mothers today in such a special way. HUDSON, MA FR. Sim, é maravilhoso lembrar as nossas mães hoje de forma especial. However, as one who has lost his mother in recent years, what strikes me is that today is just a reminder of the way we need to love and respect our mothers every day of the year. Whether we are little children or adult children, it is the time we spend with them and the affection we show them that helps mothers to feel appreciated all the time. This is also a day to remember all the women of our world who are not biologically mothers, but who provide that nurturance and love to the many people they interact with every day. So many of us had religious sisters in our formative years, yet there is not a Nun s Day every year. Yet they taught us, nurtured us and provided faith guidance for many years. How many more women are like that in our world today??? Today also we honor Mary the Mother of Jesus and the Mother of our Church. During this month of May dedicated to her, we give thanks for the essential role she played in the history of Salvation. So yes we give thanks for our mothers today; we honor those who are living and those who are deceased; and may we pledge to love and honor them each day of our lives. Mesmo que nós sejamos crianças ou filhos adultos, é o tempo que nós passamos com eles e o carinho que nós mostramo-lhes que ajuda as mães a sentirem-se apreciadas o tempo todo. Este é também um dia para lembrar a todas as mulheres do nosso mundo que não são biologicamente mães, mas a quem presta essa assistência e amor para com as muitas pessoas que elas interagem todos os dias. Muitos de nós tivemos irmãs religiosas em nossos anos de formação, e ainda não há um "Dia de Freira" todos os anos. Mesmo assim elas nos ensinaram, alimentaramnos e forneceram orientações de fé por muitos anos. Quantas outras mulheres são como estas em nosso mundo hoje??? Hoje também nós honramos Maria a Mãe de Jesus e a Mãe de nossa Igreja. Durante este mês de Maio dedicado a ela, nós damos graças pelo papel fundamental que ela desempenhou na história da Salvação. Então sim, nós damos graças por nossas mães hoje; nós honramos aquelas que vivem e as que estão falecidas; e que nós possamos comprometermos a amá-las e honrálas a cada dia de nossas vidas. SEMINARIAN S COLLECTION Next week s second collection supports the formation and training of seminarians in the Archdiocese of Boston for service, we pray, as future priests. Like the Good Samaritan who extended a hand of aid and compassion, your pledge provides critical assistance to the Archdiocese of Boston s 50 ministries. Our parish goal is $36, As of May 2 nd $27, has been pledged. This is 75% of our goal and if we don t reach the goal that has been set for our parish; St. Michael will have to take from its own parish funds. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM The next Sacrament of Baptism will be this Sunday, May 12 th at 2:00pm in the upper church. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is an ongoing process of formation for people who are thinking about becoming members of the Catholic Church. Through a process of inquiry, learning, prayer and reflection one learns what it means to become a Catholic Christian. Then one is able to make an informed choice. If you have been thinking about becoming Catholic, perhaps now is a good time to explore the possibility. 5 MAY 12, 2013 MESSAGE FROM THE PARISH NURSE SUN HEALTH ALERT The deadliest skin cancer, melanoma, can strike anyone---including you. It is increasing at an epidemic rate; the US incidence exceeds that of new HIV infections. An American dies of melanoma every hour. Almost every death could have been prevented by early self-detection. Melanoma may start in moles or in clear skin, including unexposed skin. Moles may be flat or raised. Normal moles are round or oval with sharp; even borders, uniform color and shade, and are less than ¼ inch wide. Atypical moles have one or more of these features: fuzzy or botched borders, ¼ inch wide or more, mixed colors, pebbled surface, raised fried egg center. You are at increased risk of melanoma if you have ANY of the following risk factors: 1. MORE THAN 50 NORMAL MOLES. 2. ATYPICAL MOLES, EVEN ONE. 3. FAMILY HISTORY OF ANY SKIN CANCER. 4. LIGHT COMPLEXION AND/OR FRECKLES. 5. BLISTERING SUNBURN(S) UNDER AGE IF YOU USE TANNING BEDS 10 TIMES OR MORE IN A YEAR. When found early melanoma is curable by painless removal in a doctor s office. No radiation or chemotherapy is required. A 10 minute monthly selfskin exam is all it takes to find it early. Check all areas of face, ears, neck, underarms, chest, hands, and under nails. Women should also check under their breasts. Have someone help check your scalp and upper and lower back. Then check buttocks and genitals including hidden areas. Sitting on a small chair stool, check all sides of legs and feet including between toes and under toenails. See a dermatologist immediately if you find a change of any kind in a mole or other skin growth. To decrease additional risk of melanoma minimize sun exposure from 10am to 4pm., avoid tanning beds, wear protective clothing, wide brim hat and UV-sunglasses. Use sunblock with SPF30 or more. Apply it heavily and reapply every two hours. Sunless bronzers and spray booths are the only safe ways to tan. Visit the website for photos and further information. God Bless you all! Mary Ellen Bartlett Parish Nurse. 4 MEMORIAL DAY MASS Please join us on Monday, May 28 th at 9:00am for a Memorial Day Mass at the St. Michael Cemetery and help us remember the men, women and children buried there as well as the men and women who fought for freedom and peace. If it rains the Mass will be in the upper church. IMPORTANT NOTICE There will be no Eucharistic Adoration on Monday, May 28 th due to the Memorial Day Mass at the Cemetery. FATIMA DAY CELEBRATIONS The Xaverian Missionaries will begin their traditional Fatima Day celebrations at Fatima Shrine, on the 13 th of the month, May through October. The First celebration will take place on Monday, May 13 th. Gathering and sing along at 6:30pm following with Mass at 7:00pm. Main celebrant will be Bishop Robert P. Deeley, Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Boston. There will be Rosary and Candle light procession after Mass. Refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards. 25 TH AND 50 TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS/JUNE 3 rd, 2012 His Eminence, Cardinal Séan O Malley, O.F.M. Cap., invites all couples who are celebrating their 25 th and 50 th Anniversary in 2013 to the Wedding Anniversary Mass at the Holy Cross Cathedral on Sunday, June 3 rd at 11:30am.
