3 Straight from the Horse s Mouth, again!!! Greetings from Uxbridge! Thought I would give you a little update. The debilitating pain in my knee and leg has eased a great deal I had a series of injections from the orthopedic doctor (not cortisone but a liquid gel) to ease the bone on bone pain in the knee. Along with the injections I have also been doing aqua therapy twice a week and together they have worked wonders! Of course the relief is only temporary for two or three months but hopefully will carry through until the actual knee replacement surgery in February. At times I still have pain and my stamina has not returned since before my hip surgery. I also wanted to take this opportunity as we approach Thanksgiving Day to express my appreciation for all your support and concern and love during this time. Hardly a day goes by that I don t receive a card from Hudson, wishing me well and sending along prayers and enrollments for my health. This means a great deal to me while I am unable to be physically present to celebrate this great day of gratitude and thanks. My prayers are with all of you this week that your own celebrations will be warm get togethers and be blest by God. Fr. Ron HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! H, MA 3 Uma vez mais directamente da boca do cavalo! Saudações desde Uxbridge! Pensei em darvos algumas novidades a meu respeito. A debilitante dor na minha perna e joelho melhorou bastante. Eu tive que levar uma porção de injeções no doctor ortopédico (não foi cortisone mas um gel liquido) para aliviar a dor no osso com osso no joelho. Juntamente com as injeções tambem tenho feito terapia de água duas vezes por semana e as duas coisas juntas tem trabalhado muito bem! É claro que o alivio da dor é temporário só por dois ou três mêses mas espero que dure até à cirurgia do joelho em Fevereiro. Por vezes ainda sinto dores e ainda não recuperei a minha energia desde a cirurgia na anca (hip). Tambem gostaria de tomar esta oportunidade ao aproximarmonos do dia do Thanksgiving para expressar a minha gratidão e apresso por todo o apoio, carinho e amor da vossa parte durante este tempo. Raramente não se passa um dia que eu não receba um cartão desde Hudson, desejandome melhoras e orações pela minha situação e saude. Tudo isto tem muito valor para mim enquanto que me não é possivel estar fisicamente presente para celebrar este dia maravilhoso de gratidão e de acção de graças. 4 HEALTH NOTICE TO ALL PARISHIONERS!!!!!!!!! The cold and flu season is once again upon us. I plead with you to please stay home from church if you have a fever, cold, upper respiratory infection or the like. God does not expect you to be coming to Mass under any of these circumstances. Our children are taught now in health classes to cough and sneeze into their elbows so as to protect others from germs. I encourage each of us to learn to do the same. One last note of interest, if I may. At the Sign of Peace during Mass please refrain from shaking another s hand if you are sick. Simply nod and acknowledge their presence, it means the same thing. Stay well and please take care of yourself and be mindful of others. Weeks before they are placed in the church the parish staff removes the plastic covers from the church and put them on the new missalettes. Each year during this process we do not have enough plastic covers for the new missalettes. If you have a missalette at home that has a plastic cover on it please return the plastic cover by November 26th. If you take a missalette home each year please leave the plastic cover in the pew. 4 Thank You!

5 TT S With the end of the liturgical year only a week away, today s readings offer a fitting reflection on how we can prepare for the return of the Master and the full manifestation of God's Kingdom. The First Reading from Proverbs describes the good wife, using some of the imagery applied to Lady Wisdom in last week s reading from Wisdom. The good wife works skillfully and with lovenot only for her family, but also for the needy. Fear of the Lord has nothing to do with fright. Rather, it describes reverence toward God and obedience to God s will. In the Second Reading, Paul addresses a question troubling the Thessaloniansthe delay of the endtime and return of the Christ. He reminds them that the end will come when people least expect it so they need to stay alert. But because they are disciples ( children of the light ), they have what they need to prepare for this event and need not fear. In the same vein, today s Gospel provides a parable about how we ought to live as we wait for Christ s return. A man, before going on a long journey, gives three of his servants huge amounts of money to invest. (In biblical times, a talent represented thousands of dollars.) The master representing Christ, eventually returns to evaluate the servants' work. He praises two of them for their productive investment of the resources he left them, but the third one is severely scolded because he was fearful and did nothing while his master was away. Clearly, the master has expectations for us. Proverbs description of the good wife reflects its culture and time. How might a modern version describe a good wife or husband? And what insights can you draw from the reading? As a Christian waiting for the Parousia (return of Christ), what does the command, Stay alert and sober, mean to you at this moment of your life? Prayerfully reflect on the parable of the talents. What talents have you been given to invest? What can you resolve to do today to better please the master on his return? From At Home with the Word 2017 November is National Diabetes Awareness Month The following symptoms of diabetes are typical. However, some people with type 2 diabetes have symptoms so mild that they go unnoticed. Common symptoms are: urinating often, feeling very thirsty, feeling very hungry even though you are eating, extreme fatigue, blurry vision, cuts/bruises that are slow to heal, weight loss even though you are eating more (type1), tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands/feet (type2). There are several ways to diagnose diabetes. Testing should be carried out in a health care setting (such as your doctor s office or a lab). How does one develop diabetes? Unlike some traits, diabetes does not seem to be inherited in a simple pattern. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes have different causes. Yet two factors are important in both. You inherit a predisposition to the disease then something in our environment triggers it. Genes alone are not enough. In most cases of type 1 diabetes, people need to inherit risk factors from both parents. We think these factors must be more common in whites because whites have the highest rate of type 1 diabetes. Because most people who are at risk do not get diabetes, researchers want to find out what the environmental triggers are. One trigger might be related to cold weather. Type 1 diabetes develops more often in winter than summer and is more common in cold climates. Another trigger might be viruses. Perhaps a virus that has only mild effects on most people triggers type 1 diabetes in others. Early diet many also play a role. Type 1 diabetes is less common in people who were breastfed and in those who first at solid foods at later ages. In many people, the development of type 1 diabetes seems to take many years. In experiments that followed relatives of people with type 1, researchers found that most of those who later got diabetes had certain autoantibodies in the blood years before. Type 2 diabetes has a stronger link to family history and lineage than type 1, although it too depends on environmental factors. Lifestyle also influences the development of type 2. Obesity tends to run in families, and families tend to have similar eating and exercise habits. If you have a family history of type 2 diabetes most likely it is a combination of both lifestyle factors and genetics. Studies show though that it is possible to delay or prevent type 2 by exercising and losing weight. If you would like to learn more about the genetics of all forms of diabetes the National Institutes of Health has published a free online book that provides an overview of the current knowledge about both type 1 and type 2 as well as other less common forms of diabetes. Or, you can use those gifts from God to spread good news about Jesus. When you choose to use your gifts for God, and he will fill your heart with joy. Prayer God, help me to use my time, my money and my special talents for you. Something to Draw Draw a picture of yourself helping a younger child learn how to tie their shoes. Mission for the Week God has given your family money. Use some of it to buy food for a needy family. 6
