3 Once again, I want to express my deep appreciation for your ongoing generosity for the Church Painting fund as we reach the $100,000 mark. It is truly amazing that we have raised so much so quickly! Please consider your donation if you have not yet done so. Last Saturday evening, the three pastors of our proposed collaborative met for dinner and discussion. The dinner was delicious (yes I cooked!!!) and the discussion was fruitful. Our conclusion, at this point, is that we need to get some more clarification from the archdiocese before we continue moving ahead. Once we have that, I will share it with you as well. As I am sure you have read, many parishes in the archdiocese have already formed their collaboratives and the bugs of the process are being worked out. Hopefully by the time our collaborative is formed the process will be finetuned! It is hard to believe that the Easter Season is almost over. Having celebrated Ascension Thursday this last week, Pentecost Sunday next weekend will conclude the season. Many will also be relieved that the sprinkling will be over too!! Memorial Day follows the next day, Monday, May 25th. Be sure to make plans to celebrate our cemetery Mass at 9:00 a.m. as usual. Each year, we have a moving celebration and memorial to all those buried at St. Michael s Cemetery with special mention of those who died this past year. Last year, we had to move to the church because of rain; hopefully this beautiful weather will continue and we can stay outdoors! H, MA Fr. Ron s Ramblings Uma vêz mais eu quero expressar a minha gratidão pela vossa continua generosidade para a angariação dos fundos para a pintura da igreja, assim já chegamos à meta dos dólares. È verdadeiramente incrivel de que já conseguimos juntar esta quantidade tão rápidamente. Àqueles que não fizeram a sua doação, por favor que considerem fazêlo, ainda continuamos em nessecidade. Na tarde do sábado passado, os três pastores das igrejas colaborativas se reuniram para jantar e discutir sobre o assunto. O jantar estava delicioso (sim eu cozinhei!!!) e o debate foi frutificante. A nossa conclusão até este ponto foi que necessitamos mais clarificação da parte da Arquidiocese antes de continuarmos avançando com o caso. Uma vez que recebamos esta clarificação vos manterei informados. Como tenho a certeza que tendes lido, muitas outras igrejas já formaram a sua colaboração e os insetos do processo já estão sendo trabalhados. Tenho esperanças que quando a nossa colaboração esteja formada o processo tambem fique em ordem! È dificil acreditar que a estação da Páscoa já esteja terminando. Com o celebrar da Quintafeira da Ascenção do Senhor nesta semana passada, o Domindo do Pentecostes no próximo fim de semana conclui a estação. Muitos se sentirão aliviados que o respingar da água benta tambem se acabe. O Memorial Day será no dia seguinte (segundafeira 25 de Maio). Não se esqueçam de planear vir à nossa missa das 9 da manhã no cemitério como é habitual. A cada ano temos uma comovedora celebração em memória de todos os que estão cepultados no cemitério da paróquia de São Miguel, e relembrar em especial os nomes dos que faleceram durante o ano. O ano passado tivemos que celebrar a missa na igreja por causa da chuva; esperemos que o bom tempo continue para podermos celebrar a missa lá fora. Que Deus vos abençoe. 4 Religious Education All of our children have celebrated their First Communion and we thank you all for your prayers! Continue to keep them, and their families, in your prayers as we approach summer. **Registration for the new school year begins has begun and will continue through June 15th. Sign up early please! This year, Saint Michael Parish will run a Vacation Bible School from August 17th21st. Registration is open and forms can be found on our website. We are still in need of volunteers for the mornings. Please consider offering some time a few hours a day or even one day. Mass will be celebrated at the cemetery at 9:00am. Bring the family, it is always a beautiful service! If raining, please note Mass will be held in the Church. Please be courteous and refrain from bringing food, beverages or chewing gum into our Holy Church, unless it is a medical necessity. 5 Adult Faith Formation In today s Gospel, Jesus turns his eyes to heaven and prays in earnest for his Apostles, asking God to protect and consecrate them. Following the Ascension, we see the Apostles turning to God in prayer for guidance and wisdom. Jesus modeled many forms of prayer during his earthly life, giving us the Lord s Prayer, meal prayers, intercessory prayer, solitary prayer, and discernment. Set aside time each day for reflection and prayer. Consider your thoughts and your ways. Listen for the prompting of the Holy Spirit drawing you closer to God. St. Theresa of Avila insisted that authentic prayer changes us, transforms us. Follow the example of the Apostles and pray for spiritual discernment when making important life decisions. Visit and learn a wonderful approach to prayer and life. At Home with the Word 2015 Celebrating the Stations of the Resurrection! Monday evenings now through May 18th at 7:00pm in the upper church. Come, worship and praise our Risen Savior with prayer and meditation. Why practice the Stations of the Light? Diocese of NH Catholic High School Scholarships St. Michael Parish has several permanent endowment funds. These funds were generously established in memory of members of our parish to annually provide high school scholarships for children of St. Michael Parish, who are attending or plan to attend a Catholic High School. The student should be an active member of St. Michael Parish and accepted into a 4 year Catholic High School. S S E 5 Parish Nurse, Mary Ellen Bartlett Life is rarely easy and no one feels good all the time, but feeling so bad you want to die is a feeling that can be overcome. Suicide is one of those subjects no one wants to talk about. Feeling suicidal is NOT A CHARACTER DEFECT, it doesn t mean you re crazy or weak or flawed. It only means the person has more pain than they are capable of coping with. HELP IS OUT THERE. Talking openly about suicidal thoughts and feelings can save a life. So don t wait. REACH OUT!!!!!! The pain may seem overwhelming and permanent but with time and support one can overcome their problems and the pain and suicidal feelings will pass. Here are some ways to help cope with suicidal thoughts and feelings: Talk with someone every day, preferably face to face. Make a safety plan. Develop a set of steps that you can follow during a crisis. Make a written schedule for yourself every day and stick to it. Keep a regular routine as much as possible, even when your feelings seem out of control. Get out in the sun or into nature for at least 30 minutes a day. Exercise as much as you can. Make time for things that bring you joy. Even if few things bring you pleasure at the moment, force yourself to do the things you used to enjoy. Remember your personal goals. You may have always wanted to travel to a particular place, read a book, own a pet, learn a new hobby, volunteer, or go back to school. Get plenty of rest. Take a nap during the day. Here are some things to avoid: Being alone. Solitude makes suicidal thoughts even worse. Alcohol and drugs. These can increase your depression, hamper your problem solving ability and can make you act impulsively. Doing things to make you feel worse. Even if it doesn t feel like it right now, there are many people who want to support you during this difficult time. You can call a trusted friend, family member, minister, rabbi, priest, doctor or therapist. It doesn t matter who it is, as long as it s someone you trust and who is likely to listen with compassion and acceptance. If you don t know who to turn to: Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at or National Hopeline Network at They are available 24/7 and free of charge. Portions of article taken from
