Infant Baptisms The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 2:00pm. Baptism catechesis for the parent(s) and godparent(s) is held on the 1st Sunday of the month at 2:00pm. Register online at or call the Parish Center. Marriage Arrangements should be made at least 6 months prior to the intended date of the wedding. Please call the Parish Center to schedule your date and make an appointment to speak with one of the priests. Anointing of the Sick The church encourages all who are ill, about to undergo surgery, or confined to their home due to illness be to prayed over and anointed with sacred oil. This can take place at a parish Mass, or in the home or in the hospital. Please do not wait for the last moment for yourself or a loved one to be anointed and by all means speak to a priest for more information or details. All parishioners are welcome and encouraged to attend, in particular, the sick and those who care for them. This Healing Mass encompasses any physical, mental or spiritual illness, exhaustion, the elderly, and the homebound. If you have a family member in need of a ride or assistance to come to this sacramental gathering, please call or Mary Ellen at the Parish Centermbartlett@stmikes.org

3 This weekend as we begin the month of November it is also the beginning of that time each year we set aside to honor all those who have died. November 1 st, the Feast of All Saints, is an ancient celebration in our church dating back to the ninth century. Before that it was a commemoration of those martyred for the faith but in the ninth century it was extended to include all who we believe are now in heaven, interceding for us. November 2, the Feast of All souls is somewhat different. From the very early days of the church, people have prayed for all those who have died from the beginning of time. Over the centuries this day has been set aside to continue that tradition. Up to the present time, we set aside not just these two feast days, but all thirty days during the month of November to pray for our deceased loved ones in particular, and all the deceased as well. In our parish, our own tradition centers around enthroning the Book of Life in both the upper and lower churches. In that book we invite you to write the names of your deceased family members and we pray for them at every Mass during the month. We do keep these books from one year to the next. Hence, if you have entered names in previous years, they remain. WE recommend that you only enter those who have died since last November. Envelopes that are given with names on them will also be displayed along with the book during the month. And finally another reminder that our Annual Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday evening, November 2 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to remember those who have died this past year. Ron s 3 Neste fim de semana ao iniciarmos o mês de Novembo é tambem o inicio do tempo que a cada ano guardamos para honrar todos os que já faleceram. Dia 1 de Novembro a festa de todos os Santos, é uma celebração antiga desde o século nove. Antes disto era uma comemoração para todos os mártires da fé mas no século nove foi mudada para incluir todos os falecidos que acreditamos estão no céu a interceder por nós. Dia 2 de Novembro, festa de todas as almas defuntas é de alguma forma diferente. Desde o primeiro inicio da igreja,as pessoas têem orado por todos os que morreram desde o principio dos tempos.com o correr dos séculos este dia tem sido guardado para dar continuação a esta tradição. Até ao tempo presente, nós guardamos não só estes dois dias de festa,mas todos os 30 dias do mês de Novembro para orarmos em particular por todos os nossos ente queridos falecidos e tambem por todos os falecidos em geral. Na nóssa paróquia, a nóssa própria tradição concentra se na entronização do livro da vida na igreja de cima e na de baixo.. Nestes livros vós sois convidamos a escrever os nomes dos vossos membros de familia já falecidos e nós rezaremos por eles em todas as missas durante todo o mês. Nós guardamos estes livros de um ano pro outro. Em caso já tenham escrito nomes nos anos anteriores eles continuaram escritos lá. É recomendado que apenas incluam os nomes dos vossos familiares falecidos desde Novembro do ano passado. Os envelopes que entregarem com os nomes escritos neles seram tambem incluidos no livro durante o mês. Finalmente uma outra nota. A memorial missa annual será celebrada na segundafeira dia 2 de Novembro às 7 horas da noite. Todos são bem vindos para relembrar os que faleceram durante este ano que passou. Que Deus vos abençoe. 4 O 25, 2015N 6,, 2015 Religious Education Classes continue, we held our prayer review with the children in the second grade last week and all did a get job. Thank you to all who helped make this a great event for the children. Next week, November 8 th and the 12 th we are holding the THIRD GRADE PARENTS MEETING. The time is 6:00pm in both cases and lasts for about a hour. Parents, please mark your calendars and attend. We meet in the First Floor Meeting Room, see you there. Adult Bible Study Adult Bible Study will take place on Tuesdays at 5:30pm and Thursdays at 6:30pm. Wednesday mornings bible study has been discontinued. We will be going over the readings for the upcoming Sunday with discussion questions. In addition we will be taking a look at recent developments in Catholic doctrine. CONFIRMATION Confirmation will be taking place on Sunday November 8, 2015 at 2:00pm and 5:00pm. Students are asked to arrive one hour early and to gather in the Lower Church to prepare. Youth Ministry Hey Kids in Grades 68! Come to an ice cream social in our parish center on Tuesday November 3rd at 6:00pm. Music, games, ice cream, fellowship and of course prayer! There are several young people who attend the 9am Sunday Mass on a weekly basis, sit in the choir section, and sing the hymns each week. 5 Adult Faith Formation Today we celebrate all the saints, not only the famous ones. This solemnity lifts up saints we know and also acknowledges that there are many unrecognized holy ones who stand at the throne of god because of their righteous lives. The early Church honored the martyrs as saints and then began to recognize those who had followed other ways to sanctity. Today s readings tell us about the holy road to God trod by every saint. Mass of Remembrance Our annual Mass of Remembrance will take place this Monday November 2, 2015 at 7:00pm in the Upper Church. If you have lost a loved one and would like to attend please come and pray with us. Letters have been mailed out to those who have passed away from November 2, 2014 to the present. An opportunity to celebrate the many ways that consecrated life and mission cfan be expressed, proclaiming the Lord Jesus to all God s people. 31 S O T Parish Nurse, Mary Ellen Bartlett NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL FAMILY CARE GIVERS MONTH More than ever caregiving is happening at home. Many factors are driving up the number of active caregivers. Americans are living longer, disabling conditions have more time to develop, the return of wounded veterans, an increase in the number of childhood conditions such as autism all require extra care. Caregiving can be lonelyone of the most common feelings that caregivers report is isolation. 39 % of adult Americans care for a loved one, up from 30 % in Most of these caregivers are between the ages of 30 and 64 and are still in the work force. Balancing one s own personal life and responsibilities with caring for a sick loved one can be difficult. Many caregivers face periods of feeling guilty, are angry, and abandoned. One does not have to experience this alone. Support from other family members or professionals can help relieve stress, reevaluate approaches to treatment, and offer new perspective on the caregiving relationship. Ask your doctor or call your local hospital s health outreach office and ask for contact information on the particular disease your family member is dealing with. Each disease entity has groups that allow for open communication with other people facing the same struggles that you are, while providing an opportunity to share suggestions, ideas and tips among the group members. Several organizations even provide assistance and care specifically to caregivers. Here are some tips for those tending to others!!!!!!! Seek support for other caregivers. You are not alone!!!! Take care of your own health so that you can be strong enough to take care of your loved one. Accept offers of help and suggest specific things that people can do to help you. Learn how to communicate effectively with doctors. Caregiving is hard work, so take respite breaks often. Watch our for signs of depression and don t delay in getting professional help when you need it. Be open to new technologies that can help you care for your loved one. Organize medical information so its up to date and easy to find. Make sure legal documents are in order. Give yourself credit for doing the best you can in one of the toughest jobs there is!!!!!! Twice a year we at St. Michael Parish celebrate a Mass of Healing and Sacrament of the Sick. All parishioners are welcome and encouraged to attend, in particular, the sick and those who care for them. This Healing Mass encompasses and physical, mental or spiritual illness, exhaustion, the elderly and the homebound. On November 7 at 11 a.m. we will be celebrating our autumn Healing Mass. 6 Sunday Throughout theweek: Sharing the Gospel When you are merciful, you are kind and forgiving. Your actions teach others how to love God and each other. You visit the sick. You comfort those who are crying. You pray for those who are in jail. You share money, food, water, shelter, and clothing with those who need it. You forgive the people who hurt you. When you are kind and forgiving to other people, they will also be kind and forgiving to you. Prayer Lord, I want to be kind and forgiving.
