3 H, MA Fr. Ron s Ramblings Dear Parishioners and Friends: The celebration of our salvation is indeed closer than when we began this journey, for we are now half way through Lent. How are you doing with our triad guide for Lent? Are you spending a few more minutes each day in prayer? Have you been fasting from what has in the past led you to sin? Has your concern for the poor been growing? If you answered yes to one of these questions, you have been listening to Jesus as we heard in last week s gospel imperative. How about the other two areas for growth? There is still time to respond to the Lord s invitation to draw near and learn from Jesus. Last week our Religious Education Program offered a Reconciliation Service for our younger brothers and sisters. Some 80 or so came with their parents to hear that we are all called to be the light for the world. Sin diminishes that light and causes us to walk in darkness. I experienced three moving moments during that celebration: Our youngster s honesty in confession. Their sense of awe in response to the lights being turned off in the church to symbolize our sinfulness. To see the youngsters pause for a moment of reverence in prayer before the Pascal Candle which is a symbol of Christ s presence and light for the world. May I take this occasion to invite you to the parish celebration of Reconciliation on Sunday, April 2 nd at 4:00pm. May peace be given to you! Fr. Como estão fazendo com o trio da Quaresma? Estão passando alguns minutos a mais em oração? Têem feito jejum das coisas que no passado vos causaram pecar? A vossa preocupação pelos pobres tem crescido? Se vós responderdes que sim a uma destas perguntas,quer dizer que estais escutando a palavra de Jesus que ouvimos no evangelho da semana passada. E a respeito das outras duas áreas de crescimento? Ainda estamos a tempo de responder ao convite que Deus nos faz de nos aproximarmo nos e aprender com Jesus. Na semana passada o programa de doutrina (catequese) ofereceu o serviço de reconciliação (confição) para as crianças e jovens. Cerca de mais ou menos 80 crianças e jovens vieram acompanhados dos seus pais para ouvir o que somos todos chamados a sermos a luz do mundo. O pecado decresce ou diminui aquela luz e causanos andar na escuridão. Eu experimentei três tipos de momentos comoventes durante a celebração: A honestidade das nossas crianças durante a confição. O senso de respeito em resposta às luzes terem sido apagadas na igreja para simbolizar o nosso pecado. Ver as crianças pausar por um momento em reverência e oração diante da vela Pascal o que simboliza a presença de Cristo como luz do mundo. Gostaria de ter a ocasião de vos convidar a todos a virem à celebração da reconciliação na paróquia no Domindo, dia 2 de Abril às quarto horas da tarde. Que a Paz de Deus fique convosco! Eucharistic Adoration The Blessed Sacrament is the living fountain of life where we drink in the love of Christ who alone quenches our thirst to be loved. Please join us on Mondays after the 9:00am Mass for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. All are welcome!

4 Religious Education I want to thank all the parents who brought ALL of their children to our Penance Services on last Saturday. The service went very well and was well attended. Reminding all First Communion students, that there is the first of two retreats on March 25 th for the first group. The second day of retreat is April 1 for the second group. Both days the children should arrive between 12:15 and 12:30. The retreat lasts until 5:00 and includes the 4:00 Mass which is the last activity of the retreat. Please keep these children in your prayers as they prepare for the reception of their First Holy Communion. St. Michael s Choir We rehearse on Saturdays at 3:00pm, and welcome any parishioner who wishes to help sing praise to God! If you have any questions or would like more information, feel free to come see me after Mass. Tim Wirth, Director of Music Stations of the Cross Every Friday in Lent at 3:00 and 7:00 pm in the Upper Church Stations of the Cross with the Portuguese community takes place every Friday at 6:00pm in the Lower Church. M 19, 2017 Ministry MeetingsAll are welcome Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Monday after the 9:00am Mass until noon time, in the lower church. The Ladies Sodality of the Blessed Virgin will be meeting Monday, March 20th at 12 noon in the Parish Center. There will be a short business meeting followed by Rosary. All are Welcome. For any information please call St. Vincent de Paul will meet Saturday, April 1st after the 4:00pm Mass. The Portuguese Cursillo Prayer Service will be Wednesday, March 22nd at 7:00pm in the Lower Chapel. A Lenten Prayer Fast from judging others; Feast on Christ in them. Fast from wanting more; Feast on being thankful. Fast from anger; Feast on patience. Fast from worry; Feast on truest. Fast from complaining; Feast on enjoyment. Fast from negatives; Feast on positives. Fast from stress; Feast on prayer. Fast from anger; Feast on forgiveness. Fast from selfconcern; Feast on compassion for others. 5 ADULT FAITH FORMATION Today and for the next two Sundays we will meet three fascinating gospel characters: the Samaritan woman, the man born blind, and Lazarus. They will show us those of us already baptized and those preparing for Baptism at the Easter Vigil (the elect) how Jesus is constantly transforming us. All the Scriptures on these days present images of Baptism and conversion. How could the people in the First Reading be so ungrateful as to grumble about their thirst? God has already delivered them from slavery and Moses had led them to safety. But the people cave in to their fears and rebel. God responds like a patient, compassionate parent by giving them water from the rock yet another expression of God s love for his people. Refreshed, they move forward into the new life God has promised. As if in response to that very situation, the psalmist exhorts the people to sing joyfully to the Lord who is the Rock of their salvation. The invitation is repeated three times using the present tense in contrast to the reminder that there was a time in the desert when their hearts were hardened. But God s voice is like a shepherd; they bow down and worship. Paul's theology of Baptism runs throughout his Letter to the Romans. Today we hear him say: The love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit like the waters in which we were baptized. Our salvation, he reminds us, comes from God s grace, not our own efforts. We must live according to that grace. In today s Gospel Jesus converses with the Samaritan woman. Although the story begins with Jesus theirs, it is the woman who is refreshed. She enters the story as a catechumen and becomes an evangelist, bearer of Good News! How many references to water and Baptism do you find in today s readings? How does your parish walk with the elect during Lent? Who has brought the Good News of the Lord into your life recently? T S FREE EXERCISE CLASS Mike Bleecker, a new member to St. Michael s parish, is seeking information to see if there is any interest in starting a FREE exercise class at St. Michael s. Mike has Parkinson s Disease and is a certified instructor in Parkinson s exercises through the Parkinson s Network (Parkinsonsnetwork.org). Classes were developed for people with Parkinson s and their caregivers but is available to anyone who would like some low intensity stretching, flexibility and balance exercise. Those using walkers and wheel chairs are welcome. The classes will last about one hour and can be morning or afternoon depending on the needs of those responding. Mike has taught these classes in Florida for the past two years and promises a fun time to those who attend. You do not have to be a member of the Parish to attend. Mike is also pursuing conducting classes at the Hudson Senior Center. If you are interested or would like more information please contact Mike at or bleeckerstreet@comcast.net. 6 Sunday Throughout The Week Sharing the Gospel Jesus told the Samaritan woman that when people drink his water they will never be thirsty again. When you are very hot, you would like this kind of water. The water that Jesus gives us to drink is his word which will last forever. It will help us get to heaven. Jesus said that he was the Messiah sent to explain everything. When you want to know the way, Jesus helps you. When you do not understand, Jesus explains it to you. Prayer Lord, give me your water to drink. Something to Draw Draw Jesus and the Samaritan woman drinking water from the well. Mission for the Week I will give a cup of water to my family and friends today. 6
