1 Welcome to St. Jude the Apostle Parish We are a group of people committed to following Jesus. That means we worship him with vigor and joy. That means we encourage prayer in church and throughout life. That means we love people outside the church through generosity, invitation, and compassion. Our hope is that all people will feel loved and welcomed at St. Jude. And once here, we pray that people will meet God and as a result of meeting God, give their lives to Jesus Christ. We want that for you. Come as you are. Check us out, but more importantly, seek the truth of God that can only be known when one knows Jesus.

We are all parts or members of His body and servants of the Lord. We believe that the Lord has given us, in our time and in this place, the job of sharing His name with others. We re not in this church to just meet our needs; we re here to meet that need.

3 Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time October 8,2018 JOIN ST. JUDE PARISH CHOIR Enjoy singing? Join the choir! Share your talents and enthusiasm!! NO AUDITIONS!!!The choir will prepare for the weekly liturgy and Christmas Season! Requirements: You enjoy singing Attend weekly rehearsals and 10:15am Sunday Mass Ability to match pitch and blend with other singers. Come to the first rehearsal; Monday, September 10th at 7:30 pm in the choir loft. We would love to have you join us!! Contact Frank at with any questions. On October 7, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates the yearly feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Known for several centuries by the alternate title of Our Lady of Victory, the feast day takes place in honor of a 16th century naval victory which secured Europe against Turkish invasion. Pope St. Pius V attributed the victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was invoked on the day of the battle through a campaign to pray the Rosary throughout Europe. The feast always occurs one week after the similar Byzantine celebration of the Protection of the Mother of God, which most Eastern Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics celebrate on October 1 in memory of a 10th-century military victory which protected Constantinople against invasion after a reported Marian apparition. CHILDREN S CHOIR! Looking for children who enjoy singing to share their voices with us at St Jude Parish at the 8:15am Sunday Mass. There is a brief rehearsal on Wednesdays, 6:30-7pm in the downstairs Chapel. We would love to have you join us on Wednesdays to prepare to sing at Mass. It is a unique experience and offers us an opportunity to develop, nurture and deepen our own personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It is enjoyed by active and less active Christians alike through a sponsor - a friend who has already lived Cursillo. It may be the best gift you give yourself! Please join us in the Great Room for coffee & donuts after the Sunday morning masses this weekend! May they be witnesses to your Resurrection and be aware that you are at their side as they joyously proclaim you as Lord.

5 St. Jude Parish has a Prayer Shawl Ministry If anyone knows of someone who is in need of one of our beautiful prayer shawls, please contact the office or stjudesecretary@verizon.net Candlelight Procession with Our Lady of Fatima Statue Friday October 12,from the Eagle s Club to St. Andrew s Church beginning at 6:30PM and concluding with a Mass at St. Andrew's at 7:00 PM. A Marian Movie will be shown in the Parish Hall following the Mass. There will be a Healing Mass at St. Andrew s Church on Thursday October 11th. The Holy Rosary at 6PM during this time the Sacrament of Confession will be available. The Mass will follow at 6:30 PM followed by healing prayers and concludes with benediction. Facilitated by Nancy Simmons, Circle of Faith will be a welcoming gathering engaging in conversations about our faith. What is Faith?, Faith in the Modern Secular World, Faith through Trials and Tragedy, Strengthening our Faith Through Prayer are just some of the topics we will discuss. The format will be a short presentation with biblical references followed by discussion. We will meet on Sunday mornings, in the church hall, from 9:10 to 10:10 (during the first session of Faith Formation). If you are interested, please sign up in the sacristy before or after masses, of just come to the first session on October 14 th. We will serve coffee and refreshments and there is no cost. Starting this Sunday October 7, 2018 we will be having coffee and donuts after the 8:15 and 10:15 Masses. This will continue every month on the first weekend of the month. Science in service of the sacred An appreciation of science does not detract from our sense of wonder and awe at the mystery and beauty of the universe. Rather it enhances our understanding of how all things work together for the good : from the tiniest invisible particles to the vast forces that govern galaxies. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church says, Science and technology are precious resources that benefit humanity. Yet by themselves they cannot disclose the meaning of existence and of human progress. Scientific accomplishments must always be at the service of the human person. To discern that, we look to a higher source
