2 The Shepherd s Flock In Christian art, the earliest depictions of Jesus Christ were not of his crucifixion or of his resurrection. The first known renderings of Jesus show him as the Good Shepherd, the image put before us in today s readings. In the Gospel passage Jesus reveals that he is the shepherd and his followers are his flock. In the first and second readings, we are told more about the flock. The passage from Acts assures us that both Jews and Gentiles are called to follow Jesus. It is faith, not birthright, that makes us part of the company of believers. In the passage from the book of Revelation we learn that the flock that follows this Lamb of God will also be washed in his blood. They will endure a time of trial before they enjoy eternal life. Be assured of the promise, we are told, but know there is a price to be paid. THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY: Reflection Question of the Week Jesus said, My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. 4 HIS HANDS SERVICE We are grateful to Sandy Hendricks for all the Easter baskets she made which were distributed to the children at the Mission a few weeks before Easter. We thank you for your patience while the Mission is undergoing earthquake retrofitting. The donation bins are also closed so please save your donations until we reopen. MAY CROWNING Holy Spirit invites you to our May Crowning on Monday, May 23, at 7:00pm. Please come and join us as we celebrate the motherhood of Mary Mother of Mothers. The May Crowning will begin with the Rosary, followed by the Crowning of Mary, and will close with Benediction. All children are encouraged to march in the procession and First Holy Communion children are asked to wear their First Holy Communion clothes. Please bring flowers. Leading up to our Baby Shower Sunday in September, we have adopted a real baby boy whose young teen mom has chosen life for her baby, and not abortion! This growing fetus will be the object of following his monthly fetal development beginning with this, the sixth month: Sixth Month (21-24 weeks) Hello! My mommy hasn't named me yet, but I am a pretty active little fetus in my fourth month! I'm ten inches in length and weigh 10 lbs. I hear mommy's heartbeat and other external noises like music. Mom feels me moving. I do somersaults while sucking my thumb. All my organs and systems are functioning. Life is good!
