The pastor and other worship leaders have put a great deal of time, thought and effort into the planning and implementation of the service. It is their hope and prayer that the service will constitute a fit offering of praise unto Almighty God, and that it will serve God s purposes as he continues to work in the lives of his children. Ushers are available to assist you in any way during the service. They are wearing gold identification badges and are stationed near the exits during the service. For those with children, please note the following provisions for childcare during the service: care for infants to one year olds in the nursery; care for two and three year olds in room 21 (down the preschool hallway); children s church for children age four through second grade in room 26 (also located down the preschool hallway the children leave for this class with its leaders following the Children s Sermon in the worship service). An usher will be glad to help you locate these rooms either before or after the service. The worship service is recorded on DVDs and is available upon request through the church office. A manuscript copy of the sermon is posted each Monday on the church website ( Those interested in joining the church should contact the pastor. He will be happy to share with you the requirements for church membership. ANNOUNCEMENTS Missions Partner Focus Over the course of the past several Sundays, we have focused our offertory prayer on one of the missions partners we support through our budget giving. Today we focus on the gospel work supported by the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. The Lottie Moon offering, emphasized at Christmas-time but collected year-round, undergirds the work of Southern Baptist missionaries the world over. The offering is named for a fellow Virginia Baptist woman who served as a missionary to China in the late 1800s. (Edith Kennedy wrote about Lottie Moon in the July edition of our newsletter where she chronicled a recent visit by church members to Miss Moon s gravesite. You would benefit greatly from reading that article if you have not already. Copies are available at the exits.) We give thanks to God for the good work carried out by Southern Baptist missionaries in every land, and for the opportunity to support their ministry through our gifts each week to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

6 Budget Preparation Time The Stewardship Committee is now receiving requests from all church committees for the 2013 budget. Each committee chairperson should find a request form in your mailbox (if you don t, contact John Burke). Please return these to the church office or the Stewardship Committee mailbox by Monday, August 21. The committee will begin the budget preparation process the last part of this month. The proposed budget for 2013 will be presented for discussion and church vote at the October 17 church business meeting. Special Called Business Meeting The People of Hope Committee has called a special business meeting on Wednesday, August 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The purpose of the meeting is to consider the town s proposals on the taking of church property for its streetscape project. This is a very important meeting. All members are urged to attend. Questions may be directed to Otelia Frazier. Women on Mission We will meet on Monday, August 20, at 1:00 p.m. All ladies are invited to attend. We will be discussing our new connection with the Fauquier Family Shelter and hands - on opportunities for mission work there. Also, we will be discussing several opportunities for ladies of the church to attend conferences in the area. So plan now to join us for this meeting on August 20. Newsletter Deadline Please submit all newsletter articles and dates for the September newsletter by Monday, August 20. Congratulations On August 25, John Pross son, Captain John Pross, and Meredith Peasley will be wed at the Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis, Maryland. They met in South Carolina and will make their home in Holly Ridge, North Carolina. We rejoice in the family s good mews and wish the newly wed couple every happiness. Women s Get-Away The Women's Get-Away through the WMUV will be held November 2-3 at Eagle Eyrie in Lynchburg, VA. The cost is $62 per person and will include overnight accommodations in a lodge and three meals. We will depart that Friday at about 12:30 and return Saturday mid to late afternoon. Please let Jackie Cafferty or Amy Carter-Stewart know by Sunday, August 19 if you would like to attend. A deposit of $10 will be due then. The rest of the cost is due the end of October.
