2 CALL TO CONFESSION UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION Wow things are changing all around me. I have a new degree. I am interviewing for new positions. My first child has graduated. My last child has finished school. A new baby is on the way. My brother is leaving for college. My sister is headed for the army. I m facing retirement. My grandchild is getting married. My parents are not doing well. I am feeling so much older this year. Changes all around me and changes within me. Lord, with all these changes, I confess, I don t know where I am going. The pathways are moving even as I try to follow them. I was sure I knew the way, but the road I planned to take is blocked! To be truthful, I don t know how to fit you into all this change. Forgive me, Lord, for seeing life only through my nervous eyes. Open my soul that I may see the world and my place in it through your eyes as well. Open my heart that I may know, regardless of what happens in life, that my greatest comfort is being your child. In trust and thanksgiving I bow before you, O Lord. Amen. Please hold your candle carefully. Once all who wish to receive a candle have returned to the pews, we will raise our candles high as we sing the refrain from Here I Am, Lord. Here I am, Lord, Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. COMMUNION OF THE PEOPLE Communion today is by intinction (dipping the bread into the cup). There will be three serving stations at the front of the sanctuary. After the choir is served, please come forward using the center aisle. The two outside cups, farthest from the center aisle, contain wine. The center cup contains grape juice. Gluten-free bread is available on the right side. Go to the serving station of your choice, and return to your pew by the side aisles. Those in the balcony or side pews are asked to make their way to the center aisle as well. If you are unable to come forward, remain seated and you may be served in the pew. The year would not have been as successful if it weren't for the amazing staff and volunteers that help each Wednesday during FBI and FBI-In- Training. The Faithful Bible Investigators have been blessed with the assistance of Britton Zuccarelli, Betty Norman, and Lyniece Meyer. Our FBI-In-Training kiddos get to spend their time with Danielle Hix, Anita Thompson, and Debb Homman. We've also had a number of other wonderful volunteers who've helped throughout the year. We are so thankful for each and every one of you who've touched the lives of the children here at FPC. We are so grateful for each of you! GOD SQUAD END OF YEAR PARTY FPC God Squad- don't forget to join us on Tuesday, May 8 th at the Bowling Alley from 6:30-7:30 p.m. We will indulge in snacks/goodies from the alley and enjoy our last official gathering together for the year. It s appropriate that First Presbyterian Church, Salina, celebrates its 158 th birthday (on May 12 th ) about the same time if not on the same day as Mother s Day, which this year is on Sunday, May 13 th. That s because of the important role that women, such as Mrs. Christine Grandma Phillips, played in the founding of this church and its continued strength and vitality to this day. Join us for cake following worship next Sunday as we celebrate both FPC s birthday and Mother s Day! PRAY FOR OUR GUATEMALA TEAM Please keep our Guatemala Mission Trip team in your prayers this week. They departed yesterday and will return on Saturday. Team members are Brigid Hall, Keith Phillips, Jon Richards, Morrie Soderberg, and Carolyn Wedel. REGISTER FOR HEARTLAND DAY CAMP ONLINE NOW! Heartland Day Camp, June 11-15, is co-hosted by FPC and Sunrise Presbyterian Church, and is open to children who have completed grades K-6. Registration is free for FPC families and friends! Kids share in the good news of Jesus Christ and the love of God through Bible stories, crafts, and skits. Kids enjoy the outdoors with water games, archery, camp activities, campfires, horses, and more! MISSION: ENVELOPE This summer, the FPC youth are going on a mission trip to the Argentine neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas, through the YouthFront Organization.

7 MISSION: ENVELOPE This summer, the FPC youth are going on a mission trip to the Argentine neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas, through the YouthFront Organization. As in previous years, you are invited to support our youth by taking a Mission Envelope from the bulletin board near the first floor elevator and south entrance to the sanctuary. You simply decide what amount you would like to give, take the envelope off the board that corresponds to that amount (or pick two that add up to that amount), fill out the information inside and put that and your donation into the envelope, and place the envelope into an offering plate during worship. As always, we are grateful for your support of these vital experiences in the faith formation of our youth! PROJECT SALINA CHALLENGE! FPC Salina is again taking part in 2018 Project Salina, collecting cans of tuna. Our friends at Sunrise Presbyterian Church have challenged FPC to help collect a total of 1,000 cans by the two churches. Food collected during the Project Salina drive, which lasts through the month of May, will be distributed to Ashby House, Salina Emergency Aid Food Bank, Salina Rescue Mission, Salvation Army and the Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas. Our count also is greatly boosted by financial contributions. Project Salina can purchase 44 cans of tuna for $25. DRINKS & APPETIZERS FOR 8 Mark your calendar for drinks, appetizers and fellowship set to begin on May 20 th! These are small groups of approximately 8 people, who casually gather for fellowship at church members houses from 4-6 p.m. Part of the fun is the creation of new groups each month. This gives us a chance to meet new church members! A sign-up sheet is posted outside the main office of the church. Watch for more Apps for 8 coming in June and July! WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY: MAY 7 & JUNE 4 The FPC Women s Bible Study group is using the Bible study brought to us by the PW/Horizons Bible study titled Cloud of Witnesses, the Community of Christ in Hebrews by Melissa Bane Sevier. Please join us as the author invites us to explore the book of Hebrews, and tie those themes to our lives together with our faith community. Our next two meetings are May 7 and June 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Hope Room. First Presbyterian Church is looking for 3 new nursery staff to assist us on Wednesday afternoons and during worship on Sunday's. We are seeking a Nursery Coordinator who is responsible for the oversight, hospitality, and organization of the nursery, as well as two nursery caregivers who will help in providing safety, care, and a loving environment for children. 8 MIDWEEK MANNA BEGINS SUMMER BREAK With school ending and summer looming, it s time for our popular Wednesday evening Midweek Manna dinner and worship program to take a break, too. Thanks to all who have attended this year. We ll resume in September. MODERN PARABLES ADULT ED CLASS You are invited to join us for Modern Parables on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. in the Hope Room. This is an original Bible study curriculum designed for people who like movies. All are welcome! The study uses short dramatic films that help us to understand and discuss how Jesus parables are important to us millennia after he first spoke them. Modern Parables lets people grasp the parables at an immediate, gut level and enables participants to engage the Bible in a powerful and compelling new way. There is a study guide available in the office for those interested. FOR YOUR INFORMATION: FPC s Nursery, located on the second floor, is available for infants and children ages 5 and younger. FPC encourages children ages 6 and older to remain in worship. Worship bags for children of all ages are located in the lobby. When you are finished with the bag, please put it in the basket so that it can be replenished and straightened. Pew Art cards are also available in the pew racks. FBI (Faithful Bible Investigators) is our Christian Education program for children in grades K-5. FBI-In-Training is our Christian Education program for children age 2 through Pre-K. HeBrews is our 9 th -12 th grade Youth Bible Study that meets every Thursday during the school year at 6:45 am at Mokas on Crawford. The name is derived from Hebrews 10:25. God Squad is our 6 th -8 th grade Youth Bible Study that meets every Tuesday during the school year from 6-7 pm at different Salina dining locations. Adult Education Class meets Sundays at 9 a.m. in the Hope Room. Extra hymnals, including large print, and Bibles are available in the back of the sanctuary. The sanctuary is equipped with a Hearing Loop. Please switch your hearing aid to t-coil to use. Please see your audiologist to activate your t-coil if you haven t done so yet. Headsets are also available. An usher will be happy to help if you need assistance. CONGREGATIONAL CARE: Tan Prayer Request Cards are for prayer requests or concerns. These go to the Board of Deacons. Blue We Care Cards are for messages of care to persons of the congregation; these cards are mailed the next week. Cards are available in the back of the room. Please place the cards in the offering plate. Your Prayer Concerns can now be submitted online. Please visit and they will be forwarded to a pastor. Ellie will be continuing her education and golf career at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri this fall. She plans to study biochemistry with an emphasis on pre-med. Avery Cooper graduates from Smoky Valley High School this May. Following graduation Avery plans to tour Spain, Germany, Sweden, and Norway before starting school at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. She intends to major in Psychology and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Avery is the daughter of Chandra and Jeff Cooper. Mary England will graduate from Salina High School Central. She is the daughter of Katy and Andy England. Mary plans to attend K-State and major in psychology. Annie Hayes Salina Central graduate Annie Hayes will be attending Fort Hays State University to study graphic design in the fall. She is the daughter of Jeff and Cathy Hayes and sister to Will.

Will Hayes is graduating from Salina Central High School. His parents are Jeff and Cathy Hayes and he has a twin sister Annie.

Carson School of Theatre and Film. Olivia Johnson is graduating from Salina High School Central.

Olivia will be continuing her education at Kansas University this fall and plans to study advertising and marketing.

He is the son of Todd and Amanda Michaelis, and his sister is Molly Michaelis.

Nick Salem is graduating from Salina High School South. His parents are Bob and Linda Salem, and his brother is Scott Salem.

10 Will Hayes is graduating from Salina Central High School. His parents are Jeff and Cathy Hayes and he has a twin sister Annie. Will plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he will study acting and psychology at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. Olivia Johnson is graduating from Salina High School Central. Her parents are Paul and Linda Johnson, her siblings are Luke and Meg. Olivia will be continuing her education at Kansas University this fall and plans to study advertising and marketing. Carson Michaelis is graduating from Salina High School Central. He is the son of Todd and Amanda Michaelis, and his sister is Molly Michaelis. He will be attending Carnegie Mellon University this fall to study Architecture. Nick Salem is graduating from Salina High School South. His parents are Bob and Linda Salem, and his brother is Scott Salem. He will be attending New York University Tisch School of the Arts this fall pursuing a BFA in Drama. Ethan Speer is graduating from Salina Central High School. His parents are Mark and Lisa Speer and his brother is Aidan. Ethan will be attending Kansas Wesleyan University in the fall where he will major in biochemistry. He will also continue his basketball career as a member of the Coyote's team.
