4 ANNUAL MEETING AGENDA AMENDMENT During the Annual Congregational Meeting, with the approval of those gathered, we'll also include at least one item on the agenda as New Business: The election of Bev Zizumbo to fill a Session vacancy ANNUAL REPORT AVAILABLE! Over the next 7 to 10 days, Congregational Care and Nurture members along with the Deacons will be calling any FPC members whose picture hasn t yet reached the office. Questions? Please contact the office for help. SCOUT SUNDAY: FEBRUARY 11 Sunday, February 11 th, is Scout Sunday here at FPC Salina. By tradition, Scouts will serve as greeters and ushers during worship that day. FPC hosts Salina Boy Scout Troop 2, which celebrated its 100th year of charter in Troop 2 has been described as one of the oldest and longest continuously chartered troops west of the Mississippi. It has produced 114 Eagle Scouts. NEW ADULT EDUCATION CLASS BEGINS FEBRUARY 11 The Adult Education Committee would like to invite you to participate in a six-week study before worship, 9 am in the Hope Room, on Sundays beginning February 11 th. Led by members of the committee and Associate Pastor Keith Phillips, the series will take place Feb. 11, 18, and 25, and Mar. 4, 11, and 18. In Sabbath as Resistance: Saying No to the Culture of Now, Walter Brueggemann writes that the Sabbath is not simply about keeping rules but rather about becoming a whole person and restoring a whole society. Books will be available, and a blog will be started to allow those who cannot come each week to continue participating. Contact adulteducation@fpcsalina.org for more information. WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY: CLOUD OF WITNESSES The next Women s Bible Study meeting will be held this Monday, February 5 th, at 5:30 p.m. in the Hope Room. This week is Lesson Five In Community with the Tradition of the Past. As you read, ask yourself "What is true faith?" This week s lesson brings home the point that believers are connected by a faith tradition, whether righteous, obedient, tested or witnesses. The author of Hebrews does not define faith but links faith and hope. There is a quick review of our Book of Confessions which is a critical part of the Presbyterian faith tradition. If you have a copy of the book, please bring it. Join us as we share in learning about our faith traditions. WIRED WORD EVERY TUESDAY Pastor Charlie is leading the Wired Word Adult Bible Study Class on Tuesdays at noon, in the Hope Room. The Wired Word curriculum focuses on a recent news item and applies a biblical perspective to it. Topics are always challenging and certain to spur lively conversation. If you would like the curriculum ed to you ahead of time each Thursday, please contact the church office. Otherwise, just show up when you are able! Bring a brown-bag lunch!

Our dates for our third year are Saturday, February 3rd to Friday, March 31st. Reporting in and calculating miles remain the same as our previous walks: Each week starts on a Saturday, concludes on Friday with the weekly total reported on Saturday, if possible. The activities you can claim for miles have not changed either. So, check out the smaller mileage tracker in this morning s Bulletin. A revised Walk 2 Jerusalem display with - as always - the larger mileage trackers/calendar sheets, weekly devotions and registration sheets will be in the north lobby. 6 LENTEN DEVOTIONAL: JESUS AND THE PROPHETS The season of Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and contemplation of the power and promise of the paschal mystery. Perhaps there are no better models of how to live Lent than the prophets. The Rev. Jimmie Hawkins, PC(USA) pastor, has assembled a collection of challenging daily reflections, Scripture and prayers to help us on our Lenten journey. The Lenten Devotional features oil paintings by Steven Burgess, an artist from upstate New York who is a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Salem, N.Y. There are a limited number of copies available around the church or you can download a copy on our website: SHROVE TUESDAY: FEBRUARY 13 FPC Salina will celebrate the day before Ash Wednesday with pancakes on the traditional feast day of Shrove Tuesday, also known as Mardi Gras (or Fat Tuesday ). Our friends from Chris Cakes will be serving up both pancakes and flipping entertainment starting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13 th, in Blair Hall. There will be pancake races, too! Plus, there will be a fun, intergenerational game of "Name That Tune" led by Pastor Keith. With top songs from each decade from the 1940s to today, folks from different generations will have the chance to work together to win fun prizes. This game is sure to be a hit with everyone! ASH WEDNESDAY: FEBRUARY 14 The Ash Wednesday worship service will take place on Wednesday, February 14, at 5:30 pm in the Sanctuary. It will include the imposition of ashes and communion. MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR MATCH MADNESS: MARCH 15 Greater Salina Community Foundation's 7 th Annual Match Madness is Thursday, March 15 th at the new Salina Fieldhouse, 140 N. 5th. Donors can make a gift to First Presbyterian Church for our endowment fund at the GSCF. Gifts may be matched up to 50% from a $75,000 match pool. In-person donations will be accepted at the Salina Fieldhouse from 7 am-7 pm, while online donations will be accepted from 12:00 midnight until 11:59 p.m. at Mark the memo of your check or donation with First Presbyterian Church. Watch for more information soon! JOIN US FOR YOGA AT FPC Yoga time is a time to slow down and allow yourself spiritual time for breathing, stretching, meditating, and praying together. Join Cathy Hayes or Melody Hardman and other women and men for yoga on Wednesdays, 5-6 pm. A suggested donation of $5, but is not required. All levels of ability are welcome. NEW MEMBER MEETING EVERY SECOND SUNDAY On the 2 nd Sunday of each month, there is a New Members Inquiry Meeting in the Hope Room following worship. Come join us if you would like more information about First Presbyterian Church and our ministries, or if you are ready to join our congregation as a member. You may also talk to Charlie or Keith any time.

8 MIDWEEK MANNA A contemporary service with weekly Dinner, Communion & Praise Band (free-will offering) Join us Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. This week s caterer is Paul Anderson! FOR YOUR INFORMATION: FPC s Nursery, located on the second floor, is available for infants and children ages 5 and younger. FPC encourages children ages 6 and older to remain in worship. Worship bags for children of all ages are located in the lobby. When you are finished with the bag, please put it in the basket so that it can be replenished and straightened. Pew Art cards are also available in the pew racks. FBI (Faithful Bible Investigators) is our Christian Education program for children in grades K-5. FBI-In-Training is our Christian Education program for children age 2 through Pre-K. HeBrews is our 9 th -12 th grade Youth Bible Study that meets every Thursday during the school year at 6:45 am at Mokas on Crawford. The name is derived from Hebrews 10:25. God Squad is our 6 th -8 th grade Youth Bible Study that meets every Tuesday during the school year from 6-7 pm at different Salina dining locations. Adult Education Class meets every Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Hope Room. Extra hymnals, including large print, and Bibles are available in the back of the sanctuary. The sanctuary is equipped with a Hearing Loop. Please switch your hearing aid to t-coil to use. Please see your audiologist to activate your t-coil if you haven t done so yet. Headsets are also available. An usher will be happy to help if you need assistance. CONGREGATIONAL CARE: Tan Prayer Request Cards are for prayer requests or concerns. These go to the Board of Deacons. Blue We Care Cards are for messages of care to persons of the congregation; these cards are mailed the next week. Cards are available in the back of the room. Please place the cards in the offering plate. Your Prayer Concerns can now be submitted online. Please visit and they will be forwarded to a pastor.
