On April 7 we will begin a new Sunday School class, which we are calling our Connections class. This has been a desire of mine for several years and now that we have classroom space, we are able to establish this class. The purpose of the Connections Class will be to offer a place for people to connect or re-connect with a Sunday School class and small group. We all are longing for community, and Sunday School classes provide that community for us here at Trinity. However, for many reasons, there are many people who are active in our congregation who have yet to find this community. If you are currently a regular worship attender but have not known how to take another step in connecting to our church, then this class is a great place to start. This is also a great place to re-connect in a Sunday School class. As we go through seasons of life, many times we can become disconnected with our Sunday School class and community. I have witnessed individuals who were once very connected to a Sunday School class go through life situations that require them to disconnect, and then they find it hard to re-connect once that life situation is resolved. This is not the fault of the individual or the Sunday School class. It is just the result of our lives being in constant change. If you have become disconnected over the years from your Sunday School class and are looking for a place to restart, this class is for you. Let me also say that all of our Sunday School classes are available to you. If you are looking for a deeper connection in the life of our church, then finding a Sunday School class that creates community and a place to learn and grow is essential. All our classes long to welcome you and help you find your place. Our new class begins on April 7 and will be taught by Robin Roberts and Andrew Tatum. They, along with several others, have been meeting, planning, and praying for this new class. They look forward to welcoming you on April 7. The class will meet in C102, which is on the ground floor of the Sanctuary building. The classroom is located to the right of the main staircase leading to the Narthex. I want to encourage us all to recommit our self to our Sunday School classes and the communities they create for us. They are the backbone of our church, and our attendance and faithfulness to this hour each week is essential to the growth and health of our congregation. This Week s Food Pantry Needs Baked Beans Pork & Beans Hamburger Helper THE THIRD WEEK OF Lent The third week of Lent is often where we find our commitments to a new depth in prayer, study, and discipleship grows just a bit weary. The newness of the commitment loses its luster as we set aside our practices in favor of our to do lists and busyness. This is the week we learn about faithfulness. When God tells Moses the name he should say to the Israelites when they ask in whose name does he come to bring liberty, he speaks the name Yahweh - I am that I am. He speaks the name that tells of an eternal love story between the God who created all, who loves all, and will be with all to the end. He is the God who is here to stay. During Lent, we examine our own hearts and our own desperate need for our Savior s love and sacrifice; and it is during this time that Yahweh s faithfulness becomes most apparent. The truth that Paul speaks, that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, rings all the more true. Just as we love because He first loved us, we are faithful because He was first faithful to us. So, dive a little deeper, linger a bit longer in your times of prayer and devotion, and discover the unshakable faithfulness of Yahweh God to you. MISSIONARY HOSTING April 1-3 Our field personnel, Marc and Kim Wyatt, along with 18 other missionaries from the North America Internationals Team will be having their annual meeting next month here at Trinity. As hosts, we would like to provide them with lunch, snacks, and drinks throughout the three days to show love, care, hospitality, and appreciation for all of their work in the Kingdom of God. 3 DEACON OF THE WEEK Pam Patrick has been a member since She is a native of North Carolina. She and her husband, Steve, have two children, Brian and Will. She is Controller at the Methodist Home for Children. She serves with the Sanctuary Choir, New Covenant, and as a greeter. She works with the Adult 6 Coed 2 Sunday school Class. She also works with Deacon Chris Stanley. FAMILY PROMISE PARTNERS NEEDED Hosting Week: March 31 - April 7 Family Promise provides professional case management as well as food, shelter, and transportation for qualified homeless families as they work to restore their independence. Family Promise is one of the few agencies in the area committed to helping homeless families stay together. This is accomplished through the support of various churches in Wake County. Trinity became part of this network in July We are assigned 2 to 3 host weeks a year when Family Promise guests make Trinity their home. Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of areas. There are opportunities for individuals and Sunday School Classes. Use Signup Genius (bit.ly/fpsignupmar2019) or check at the Registration Center in the Narthex to volunteer. Family Promise brochures describing each volunteer position are also available. FLOWER COMMITTEE Easter Lily Sale Through Friday, March 29 Cost: $10 Orders can be placed in the church office. All orders must be turned in by Friday, March 29. Dedicate this beautiful flower in memory or honor of a loved one, which will then decorate the Worship Center for our Easter service. Your flowers can then be picked up after the 10:55am Easter service to take home.

Our three-fold mission is as follows: 1. To belong together as members of the family of Christ. 2. To believe in the Triune God we encounter in the Scriptures and through one another. 3. To become more faithful followers of Jesus Christ through prayer, study, and fellowship. Whether you are new to Trinity (or to Church or Sunday School in general) or even if you ve been attending for some time, you are welcome to join us as we make new connections with God, the Scriptures, and one another. This class can serve as a landing place for long-term study and fellowship or as a jumping-off point for getting re-connected to Trinity during the Sunday School hour. We welcome all who desire a deeper connection with God and with others and hope you will join us as we launch our class on April 7 th. We will meet in room C102, and we look forward to meeting you. 5 Rev. Steve Byers, Special thanks to the Orchestra and New Covenant for leading us in worshipful music this past Sunday. New Covenant is directed by Jessica Isaacs and always welcomes new people to the ensemble. The Orchestra is looking for new players to fill open instrumentation needs. Talk to the directors or any musician about how to get involved. MUSICAL MYTH BUSTER #9: I like music for enjoyment, not performance. Every time a choir or music group comes together, the first reason we join together should be to have fellowship and discipleship, not performance. The end result is not as important as the means in getting there. That s why choir ministry is more of a journey than a performance track. Many people would argue that the work towards performance is all about the details of rhythm, notes, expression, and focus on presentation. It is true that we do work diligently on these most important things in giving our best to God in worship. However, it is the spirit behind those efforts that we must focus on. When all of us are in one accord working towards worship presentation, the focus shifts from how perfect we have to be to what do we have to do to present music in a worshipful, understandable, and relatable way. Nothing less than our best is our gift to God and His people in worship; working only towards perfection is both carnal and selfcentered. There is much enjoyment in presenting music for worship in that we are working to please our Heavenly Father through a sacrifice of praise. Hebrews 13:15 says, Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. No matter our circumstances, those who have been blessed with talents from God should be continually working to offer their musical best because we recognize the great sacrifice made on our behalf at Calvary. Those who profess His name focus on worshiping Him rather than the music or the performance of it. Having that right focus makes it both enjoyable and rewarding. Yes, our presentations can be viewed as performances before people, but the right view of music in worship is that we offer our sacrifices of praise to the One and Only Jesus Christ. He is our Audience of One and is worthy of all of our praise not a performance or show of our giftedness and talent. The fruit of our lips comes with an investment of our time, talent, and hearts for ministry. I find no greater joy than to sing and make music to God no matter what it costs me. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding (1 Corinthians 14:15).
