1 Volume 63 / Week Number 43 / October 25, 2012 The Messenger first baptist huntsville FIRST THOugHTS David Hull, Pastor On January 6, 1963, Dr. Alvin Hopson preached the final sermon in the church building on Clinton and gallatin streets. The next week the congregation began to use the building on governors Drive. On that last Sunday in the old building Dr. Hopson chose the text from Isaiah 54:2-3. Enlarge the place of thy dwelling. Let the curtain of thy habitation be stretched out. Hold not back. Lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes and you will spread abroad to the right and to the left and your descendants will possess the nations and will people the desolate cities. He closed his sermon with the challenge: god has blessed you by giving to you a wider field of usefulness. Now let us move to Governors Drive and go to work. Amen. In early November we will gain possession of our new building. The office area will still be under construction, but the rest of the building should be complete. We will begin our preparations for the Thanksgiving Dinner that will be held in the new building on November 18. As we are on the verge of making this move, it might be a good time to listen to these powerful words from Isaiah again. My sermon this Sunday is Enlarge the Tent and the text is Isaiah 54:2-3. I hope that you will join us for worship as we prepare for ministry in our new building. The following Sunday, November 4, we will have a special guest preacher. Our Stewardship Committee had the great idea of inviting a guest who could challenge us to be faithful and generous stewards of all that god has entrusted to us. I am very excited to announce that Dr. Andrew Westmoreland, President of Samford university, will be the preacher in both of our morning worship services on that day. We will begin our stewardship emphasis of Together We Plant... Together We Harvest based on 2 Corinthians 9:10. Dr. Westmoreland is giving excellent leadership to Samford during these days and I am grateful that he can be with us for worship on November 4. You will be blessed by his message. knowing, loving, serv ing Christ...together this sunday October 28, 2012 Sermon Enlarge the Tent Isaiah 54:2-3 First Fellowship Worship - 8:15 a.m. Music from the First Fellowship Band Morning Bible Study - 9:15 a.m. Bible Study for all ages Sanctuary Worship - 10:30 a.m. Music from the Student Choir I Will Rejoice Martin If Any Man Be in Christ Bryce/Harlan Music from the Sanctuary Choir If Ye Love Me Tallis Music from the FBC Orchestra Amazing Grace Ticheli Evening Activities Foundations for Life Classes
