It is important for you to participate in helping us choose our leadership for these important roles. Our Deacons are elected to serve as our congregational caregivers. Our Deacons primary purpose is to minister to the needs of our congregation. They contact our members and encourage them. They visit those in the hospital and those who are homebound. They also serve as an important voice giving our congregation direction. As you will see on your ballot, our Deacon nominees come from across the generations in our congregation. They are listed within the Sunday School Department where they attend or serve. Although there is no quota per Sunday School Department, I do urge you to consider voting for Deacons across the breadth of the church. Having Deacons from all Sunday School Departments helps our congregation-care structure and also gives voice to all of our members. In addition, you have the opportunity to elect Trustees. Our Trustees serve our congregation by attending to administrative, legal and financial concerns. As you consider our nominees, please consider who you believe would help our congregation make good decisions in regards to these matters. In addition, our Pastoral Advisory Council serves as advisors to the Senior Pastor. These members, along with our Deacon Chair, Trustee Chair, and Personnel Chair, are a sounding board for me and give good, mature counsel to me as I seek to be a servant leader of our congregation. Their insight and discernment is of utmost importance in our congregation. I hope you will prayerfully consider our nominees and participate in this time of choosing by returning your ballot by November 11. The ballot boxes are in the Narthex on Sundays and Wednesdays and in the office during the week. 3 DEACON OF THE WEEK Kim Mays has been a member of Trinity since 2003 and is a native of Charlotte, NC. She and her husband, Warren, have three children: Elliott, Abi and Eric. She is a Registered Nurse at Wake Med Heart Center. She serves with the Adult Choir, New Covenant, ETC, and on the College Student Ministry Team. She works with the Women s Faith Sunday school class. She also works with deacon Cynthia Christian-Daye. 5 Rev. Hal Melton, Thanks so much to all the blood donors who gave the gift of life this past Sunday at our Blood Drive. We generated 40 pints and our goal was 37. Our next Blood Drive at TBC will be Sunday, February 10th. Mark your calendars now!! TBC Shoebox Collection Dedication Sunday: Nov. 11 Goal: 800 Shoeboxes The TBC OCC Shoebox Lead Team is hard at work getting Shoeboxes put together and distributing them all over our campus. They make it easy for you to pick up a box to fill for a child. In each box is a brochure with instructions and a label for you to put on the box showing the gender and age of the child you have purchased for and prayed over. Please bring your filled Shoeboxes to the Narthex between now and Sunday morning, November 11th. That is the Sunday we will put all the donated Shoeboxes on the steps of the pulpit and have children come and pray for the children receiving them. Thanks so much for participating in this Global Mission touching children in poverty stricken and war-torn countries of the world! RECOVERY UPDATE 14 Baptist recovery sites in operation all over eastern NC Jobs include chainsaw, tear-outs, tarping roofs, etc. Over 3,000 recovery jobs completed. More than 2,500 jobs are still to be done. We need many more volunteers! You do not need to be trained to help. Under News OCC Drop-Off Location Volunteer TRIP TO CHARLOTTE: OCC PROCESSING CENTER November 27 Leave: 8:30am Return: 9:30pm If you have never followed the Shoeboxes we load onto tractor trailer trucks to the processing center in Charlotte, then you should join the group from TBC that is going. You ll get to help prepare the Shoeboxes to be loaded onto planes that will take them all over the world to children who need to know the gospel of Jesus! It is truly a fun and inspiring day. 6 Rev. Steve Byers, Special thanks Joy Blashaw for her worship leadership and solo this past Sunday morning while I was away on vacation. When I need to be away and need a replacement, I never have to worry that our music leadership in the church will step up and help in any way needed. Joy led FirstLight Choir, the Sanctuary Choir, and our Student Choir rehearsal in my absence. Giving God praise and thanksgiving for all of our musicians who come ready to serve wherever God is leading. Thank you, church, for the time away as I have been helping my dad in his recovery process. sss Student Choir, our rehearsals in November are important to prepare for Hanging of the Greens. Each week, we are preparing the music for the season as well as for Parents, thank you for seeing choir as a vital part of our ministry to them at Trinity. See you November 4! ALWAYS ROOM FOR YOU! 7 Christian Davis, Rebekah Gordon, YOUTH/PARENT BREAK-OUT SESSION SUN., NOV. 4, :15PM - 6:45 PM RM: D364 & D366 We are inviting our youth parents to take part in break-out session that follow up with conversations from our Faith & Family Festival back in September There will be 2 separate break-out sessions: Parents of Middle schoolers: Youth Culture in the Digital Age We will help to equip parents as their MS students begin using cell phones, social media and other devises as well as other problems that parents face during this time. Parents of High Schoolers: Transition to Independence We will help equip parents as their HS students are transitioning to independence. Whether preparing for academics, for driving, or for college, how can parents walk their students through these times? Bridging the Gap: Leadership Camp-Out We had a great time braving the weather up in the mountains as our 10th/11th Grade Students discussed what Servant Leadership looks like and how they can be servant leaders in their communities, church, and the youth group! 8 Rev. Karen Metcalf Eickhoff, OFFERING FOR GLOBAL MISSIONS During this November we are asking children to collect pennies, dimes, nickels, quarters or dollars for Global Missions. We hope you will do extra chores or save coins to help the missionaries across the world. We will also have the Global Mission wishing well out in the lobby for a fun way to give. Be sure to bring your offering to your mission class by November 29 or to the mission walk-down service on Sunday, December 3. Get collecting!!! Family Christmas Tree in the Fellowship Hall The Children s Ministry is responsible for the Christmas tree in the Fellowship Hall. This is a special tree decorated with ornaments provided by you the families of Trinity. All you have to do is find an ornament relating to the Nativity, write your family name on it with the current year 2018 and bring it to the tree in the Fellowship Hall. If you cannot make it to the Fellowship Hall bring it to the office and we will get it to the tree. Become part of a wonderful Trinity tradition and bring a Family ornament for the tree!! The Tree will be up around Thanksgiving. THERE WILL BE NO CHILDREN S OR ADULT ACTIVITIES WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31 RAGA SOLO MISSIONS PROJECT GA and RA boys and girls may begin this Fall to work on Mission Projects. All grade school children are encouraged to do an individual mission project and both can choose to race in the RAGA car race in March. Plan now and begin serving in a special way. BECOMING A CHURCH MEMBER For Children in Grades 3-5 Sunday, November 4 4:00pm-5:30pm We will discuss Baptism, Lord s Supper and other Baptist beliefs. Let me know if you will join us. CHILDREN S DAY Sunday, March 3, 2019 Children will be participating in all aspects of the morning worship services. If you are a grade school child that plays an instrument or has a special talent and you are willing to share with us in the service, please contact me. Also, begin to let us know if you would like to have a speaking part. We may not be able to use everyone but we would like to try to use you if possible. Mark the date!!!
