One of the great blessings is to share life with the congregation of Trinity Baptist Church. In particular, being able to work alongside the leadership that our church chooses from year to year has been a tremendous experience for me. I have discovered that over the years of ministry, many members whom I did not know on a deeply personal level have become close friends after spending time with them in leadership positions. One of the reasons for this is that there are certain leadership positions in our church that require many meetings, and many meetings with me. Over the years, those whom our congregation has placed in leadership have helped to guide our church and me as your pastor. I am blessed to know these men and women and to have witnessed their commitment to the Lord Jesus and our ministry together. This year you have again elected very committed people to lead and serve our congregation. I want to thank everyone who was willing to serve if elected. Your willingness to be on our Deacon, Trustee and Pastoral Advisory Council ballots enabled our congregation to participate in leadership selection. Thank you for saying yes when it comes to service. Parent s Night Out Friday, December 1 6:00-8:30pm TBC s Women s Ministry is hosting an unique opportunity for parents to spend a few hours with their spouse without having to worry about arranging care for their children. This event is for children ages 2-5th grade. This event is open to all Trinity members, regular attenders, and weekday preschool families. Registration for this event will run October 27 through November 23, and can be done online or by placing your completed form in the drop boxes located on the preschool and elementary school hallways. Please note: in order to provide the adequate child to adult ratio for each age group, no late registrations will be accepted. 5 Rev. Hal Melton, OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD TBC Shoebox Donations As of this writing before the final Monday of Collection Week, Trinity members have donated a total of 355 Shoeboxes! Thanks to all who have participated in this local - global missions effort! If you still have Shoeboxes to bring to church, bring them directly to the Collection Tents in the office parking lot. Or set them inside the Office Lobby door. Please don t let this be the end of your OCC experience. It is only the beginning now pray for the child(ren) that will receive your shoebox(es). Pray that they will know the Love You are sending their way as a compassionate follower of Christ. Pray especially that they will come to know the Love of Jesus Christ and accept Him in their hearts as a Savior and Lord Marriage Retreat February Beach Cove Resort, N. Myrtle Beach Cost: $245 Per Couple This year s retreat theme will be Stepping Stones or Stumbling Blocks and will deal with effective communication to help couples through times of Adversity. The retreat will be led by Hal and Roberta Melton. Folks have already started calling and signing up so don t wait we only have 20 condos reserved. A $100 deposit is due at sign up, and the balance of $145 is due on Sunday, January 21st. This covers everything but meals. Simply write your check to TBC and put a note for Marriage Retreat. Bring or mail it to the church (Hal s attention), and you are signed up! Please don t put this check in the offering plate. Central Drop-Off Location Thanks so much to ALL of you who volunteered to operate the Raleigh Area Central Drop-Off Location hosted at TBC again for the 11th year in a row! It takes a LOT of folks to help greet donors, unpack vehicles, count shoeboxes, pack them into cartons, and load them onto the tractor trailers! As of this writing, we have collected a total of 355 Shoeboxes from the Raleigh Area. What a joy it has been watching each of you participate in this annual mission endeavor. Yes it is a LOT of work and a LOT of waiting for vehicles to come. But God is now in the process of blessing your efforts and those of OCC Volunteers all over this country, and around the world. 6 Rev. Steve Byers, Music Notes Special thanks to the Trinity Laymen for their worship leadership this past Sunday morning. It is so good to see how God is using them to communicate the gospel of Christ in music both here and beyond the doors of Trinity. Giving thanks for all of our choirs, ensembles, and musical groups for their continued leadership and ministry as they approach the very busy holiday season. The students made ornaments to give to the residents for Christmas and shared a time of fellowship at Goodberry s together afterward. Thank you, parents for adjusting your schedules to help us make this a great night of ministry. Children s Christmas Cantata Choir The Children s Christmas Cantata has one upcoming rehearsal. Parents, please refer to the text message system and the newsletter for instructions. Required Rehearsal 12:15pm Sunday, December 10 Cantata December 17 Both Morning Services The rehearsal day is a required rehearsal for Hanging of the Greens Service participation. Parents, please set aside this day for your students to rehearse with their respective choir and to learn their responsibilities for the November 26 service. Responsibilities may be different than previous years. 7 Spread the Joy! This is a special time of the year as we enter into the Holiday season. Through Thanksgiving, we are reminded of all that God has blessed us with and the many things for which we are thankful. Through Christmas, we experience the happiness that came with the birth of Christ. Through all of the time with family and friends, it can be a season of great joy! This holiday season our focus as a youth group is to Spread the Joy! We are striving to do that in through our church, through our friends, and through our neighbors! Our Church: OCC Youth Work Day: On November 19th, the youth are taking over all Operation Christmas Child Packing Shifts from 1pm-4pm. We will be helping our church as we prepare to send our Operation Christmas Child boxes to children all over the country. You can sign up for shifts as an individual, as a D-Team, or with your basketball team! Shifts are from: 1:00pm-1:45pm, 1:45pm- 2:30pm, 2:30pm-3:15pm, 3:15pm-4:00pm Our Friends Bring A Friend to TBC: 11th Grade TBC Student, Andrea Shealey said, It only takes 7 words to change someone s life. The 7 words she was referring to were Will you come to church with me? We all have friends at school or on our teams, bands, etc. that have never experienced the joy of being a part of a Youth Group family. We also have friends who have never truly experienced the joy of having a relationship with Christ. We have the opportunity to share that joy, simply by inviting them to attend on a Wednesday night, Sunday morning, Sunday night, Ski Trip, etc. Then, as a youth group, we all have the opportunity to be welcoming to our guest and to make sure they know they have a place at Trinity! Our Neighbors D-Team s Deck the School Halls: This Christmas, our D-teams will be supporting students in need from Moore Square Middle School. These students from families that are experiencing income and housing instability. This means that the Christian Davis, cdavis@tbcraleigh.com families are often moving from place to place, doubling up with family or friends, or living in shelters or hotels. Because they are just striving to meet basic needs like shelter, food, and water, Christmas gifts are not guaranteed to be under the tree on Christmas morning like they are in many of our homes. Each D-team will be given a student, and as a group, you will decide what gift(s) you would like to give this student for Christmas, and how you would like to go about getting these gifts (shop together, bring money to D-team leaders or to Christian, etc.). You will be given the student s age, gender, and a few ideas about what the student likes. Some examples of gifts are: holiday/fuzzy socks, soccer/ basketball, candy, nail polish, playing cards/ games, or anything (inexpensive) that you think a year old boy or girl might like. Then, on November 29th, you will be given extra time to bring and package these items during D-Teams. Whatever your D-Team chooses to give will help to make this a joyful Christmas for a student in need! PARENT S NIGHT OUT Volunteers Needed Friday, December 1 6:00pm-8:30pm Students are needed to help watch and play with kids, while their parents enjoy a well-deserved night out! January Everyone is invited to the ski trip this year: Middle School, High School, and we ll even have some college students joining to help lead worship, Bible study, and more! 8 Rev. Karen Metcalf Eickhoff, CHILDREN S HOLIDAY DATES November 19 Parent-Child Dedication Hanging of the Greens Rehearsal Children s Mission Day Mission Day was a huge event for our children. Many thanks to Dana Sumner for chaperoning our children. We learned about Cecilia Beck and her mission work in Shelby, North Carolina. We participated in ways we can Love God and Love Others even at home. Our children are becoming mission minded and young missionaries. RAGA - Offering for Global Missions During this November we are asking children to collect pennies, dimes, nickels, quarters or dollars for Global Missions. We hope you will do extra chores or save coins to help the missionaries across the world. We will also have the Global Mission wishing well downstairs on the Preschool Hallway for a fun way to give. Be sure to bring your offering to your mission class by November 29 or to the Mission Walk Down service on Sunday, December 3. Get collecting! All you have to do is find an ornament relating to the Nativity, write your family name on it with the current year 2017 and bring it to the tree in the Fellowship Hall. If you cannot make it to the Fellowship Hall bring it to the office and we will get it to the tree. Be a part of a wonderful Trinity tradition and bring a Family ornament for the tree! The Tree will be up around Thanksgiving.
