3 Deacon of the Week Derrick Alston has been a member of Trinity since 2007 and is a native of Raleigh. He and his wife, Elizabeth have two children, Derrick Jr. and Matthew. He is a Contractor Remittance Specialist with Time Warner Cable. He serves in the Video Ministry and on the Office Automation Committee, as well as the Evangelism Committee. Derrick works with the Route 66 Sunday School Class. He also works with deacons Michael Lawson and Mark McCoy. DivorceCare Beginning August 17 Sundays 5:00-7:00pm D360 DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group who will walk alongside you through one of life s most difficult experiences. Hal Melton, Enjoying the Journey Together Married/Engaged Couples Monthly Small Groups Initial Meeting, Sunday, September 21 5:00pm B236 Couples of all ages whether you are engaged, newlyweds or celebrating many anniversaries get in on the third year of this great idea in marriage ministry. Roberta and Hal Melton will host an overview session on the purpose and practice of these monthly couple gatherings. There will be at least two small groups. One will be the continuing group all who are alumnae from last year s groups and want to go further. The other will be the new beginning group. The groups will meet one evening per month in homes throughout the school year. This is a great way to meet other couples in the church and learn/practice skills that will grow intimacy in your relationship. The groups will meet and decide upon which night each month is best to gather. For more information, ask Hal/Roberta Melton, Stewart/Kim Price or Jody/Paige Bagwell. It will help us prepare if you signup on the Registration Board in the Narthex., but you can just show up! There s no commitment to this first meeting come and find out all you need to know. Jobs For Life Begins Sunday, September 14 5:00pm TBC has partnered with Jobs for Life (JfL) to help those who are underemployed or unemployed in our community to learn about God s plan for work, discover road blocks in their lives to getting a job, and gaining the skills and confidence to do an effective job search. This is done through an excellent curriculum provided by JfL. The Lead Team is ready to offer its 14th class this fall. If you or someone you know is interested in being a student in this class, please contact the church office (hmelton@tbcraleigh.com or ) to receive an application. Applications are due into the office by Sunday, August 31. Belize & Kentucky Missions Reports Sunday, August 17 After Pot-Luck Dinner Our August Church Conference will follow a summer Pot-Luck Dinner in the Fellowship Hall! On the agenda will be reports from the adult July missions to Belize (school construction and mission VBS) and McCreary Co, KY (construction ministry and mission VBS). 46 persons participated, several will share how they experienced God s guidance to go, what God accomplished through us, and how lives were affected theirs and ours. Please join us for a great meal, TBC family fellowship, and information on how your church Joined Hands with God through these summer missions.

6 Rev. Steve Byers, Music Notes It was such a joy to hear Eli English share with us in worship this past Sunday morning. Combining his testimony and song for worship was a highlight in our music offerings to God. As we focus on church music enrollment this coming month, hearing from a student who has worked through the musical groups at Trinity was especially uplifting and challenging to all of us. There may be one of our children coming up who has these kinds of gifts to share one day in worship, and that is why choir ministry is so important it is for the future generations of worship leadership that we teach and lead. You ll notice another name change in the music ministry. Our Adult Choir is now Sanctuary Choir. For some time, I ve been thinking about our role as a choir, and it seemed more appropriate to call us a nonage related musical group at Trinity. Other groups here have names that standout and this seemed like the right fit for us. Our choir members embraced that decision. So, as you see things printed from now on, we are the same choir that sings each Sunday morning in worship. Maybe you would like to come and join the Sanctuary Choir of Trinity Baptist? Let s talk about getting you involved in one of the greatest places to serve in our church! Our children s choirs, student choirs, ensembles, orchestra and bells all begin later this month as a part of the Wednesday night and Sunday night programs we have at Trinity. The opportunity to sign-up and get an early start on enrollment will be visible outside the sanctuary each Sunday in August. If you are planning on enrolling your child or student in choirs, this would be a good time to get ahead of the game! Stop by and get a brochure or an enrollment card to start our year together before choirs begin.

7 Rev. Lydia Tatum, s Christian Davis, Words from Christian Greetings Trinity Baptist Church! I have been blessed to get to know many members of the congregation over the past year, while I served as the Student Ministry Intern. Being able to observe how Andy and Lydia helped the students grow in their relationships with Jesus Christ was an amazing learning experience. Now, I am excited to continue my time here at Trinity as the Interim Student Ministry Associate. It is such a blessing to be able to call the members of Trinity Baptist Church my new church family. However, I am sure there are many members of the congregation whom I have not had the pleasure of meeting. For those who I have not yet met, I graduated from North Carolina State University this past May with a degree in International Studies, as well as a Minor in Nonprofit Studies. It provides a safe, fun place where children will learn to understand their feelings, express their emotions appropriately, feel better about themselves and develop coping skills. 9 Carla Babb, Words from Carla Hold My Hand As we go through day-to-day task and errand running, how many find yourself constantly saying to your children, Hold my hand or Hold your sister s/brother s hand. We say this because we want to protect our children from the unknown, running off, or just to keep everyone together. I invite you to take a stroll, not because you have to, but because you want to. Take your child s hand and walk enjoying the stunning scenery, bracing winds of adventure, and savor the moment. These are the moments that stay with you and them. They will remember the time you took to spend with them, so relax and enjoy the growing years together! Jesus invites us to hold His hand and walk joyously with Him through each day. He is our guide, as well as our constant companion. He knows every step of the journey ahead of us, all the way to heaven. Don t worry about what is around the next bend. Just concentrate on enjoying His presence and staying in step with Him. Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
