We all enjoy seeing the children God has placed in this congregation. Who does not enjoy not only seeing them, but hearing them as well? These moments are the sights and sounds of a growing and blessed congregation. The Parent-Child dedication is a reminder that we value every generation in our congregation. The Parent-Child dedication is also a sacred moment. We acknowledge that life is from God and that God has created each person in a unique and holy way. We vow together, on that day, to do all we can as a congregation to aid parents in the raising of their children in the ways of faith in Jesus Christ. It is our prayer that each and every child will on their own accord choose to follow Jesus throughout their lives. I hope you will join us this Sunday on Mother s Day as we worship and celebrate the gift of new life in our congregation. I will be preaching from Judges 2:10 with the challenge we have to pass on our faith to each generation. Tickets will be on sale each Wednesday evening and each Sunday morning in May before SS and before/after the 10:55am Worship service. Tickets are $8.00 each. 3 Deacon of the Week John Fogleman has been a member of Trinity since 1996 and is a native of Kinston, NC. He and his wife, Cheryl, have two children: Alex and Clay. John is the Owner/Craftsman of Wind Whimsy, LLC. He serves in the FirstLight Choir and New Covenant Choir. He works with Adult 4 Coed 1 Sunday School Class. He also works with Deacons Angela Strickland, Fred Paula and David Ayscue. Wednesday Nights Beginning June 8 6:30pm Chapel Join us this summer for The Bible s Top Songs of the Summer: A Study of the Psalms- Wednesday Nights in the Chapel. These sessions will be led by Dr. Roberts and a cast of Bible Teachers from our Sunday School Ministry. This summer you will have the opportunity to study selected Psalms, as well as stay connected and meet new people from across the congregation. 4 Rev. Hal Melton, Thanks For a Wonderful Senior Adult Sunday! What a great day May 1st was in the life of our church as we honored our seniors with the annual Trinity Senior Adult Day. This is a big thank you for all who made this a super day... those participating in both of our morning church services, those involved in selecting our annual scholarship winner, those preparing flower centerpieces and setting up for the lunch, that was after the 11:00 am service, those serving lunch and cleaning up after lunch and even a senior from our church who did the program. Our seniors at Trinity are active and are willing to help when called upon. It was a very good day! 5 Randall & Lou Lolley Receive TBC S Baptist Heritage Award Rev. Hal Melton, hmelton@tbcraleigh.com Plaque Inscription: It is He who gave gifts to people, He appointed evangelists pastors and teachers I will make him a helper as his partner. (Eph 4:11; Gen 2:18) From your earliest days in ministry, it has been Randall and Lou. As a young couple, entering marriage, seminary and ministry, you knew God had called each of you Randall to the pastorate and Lou as your partner. As you lived out that calling, three churches called you Dr. & Mrs. First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Raleigh. While Randall preached and took care of the administration of the church; Lou, you served beside him, helping in every way, visiting, loving the people, opening your home, using your gift of hospitality. You became Randall and Lou. President and Mrs. brought that philosophy of ministry to the Forests of Wake. As President of Southeastern Seminary, it was not enough to be the administrator. You brought your pastor s heart and became pastor to faculty, staff and students. You continued to teach and preach in the Chapel and on the sidewalks. Lou, you brought that gift of hospitality, a warm, welcoming smile, and relationships flourished. Together, you were mentors to those students that you loved so much. Everyone knew Randall and Lou. During a tumultuous time in the Southern Baptist Convention, you demonstrated KY PineKnot Center Donations Needed Items that are desperately needed: Women s Underwear, (Sizes 5, 6 & 7), Women s Socks, Men s Underwear (Sizes S, M & L - Boxers or Briefs), Girls Underwear (Size 3), Training Bras. Bring these items to B 200 hallway KY Donations Box. integrity, conviction and a devotion to historic Baptist doctrine. You taught by word and action. You stood tall, together, knowing God would lead you into the next area of ministry. In retirement, you are Randall and Lou. You model how when one season ends, God has something new. Your faithfulness in all the seasons of your life has been an example for all. You have made a lasting impact on pastors and congregations. Randall and Lou, we love you. In addition to the plaque, $2,500 was donated in honor of the Lolleys to The Randall and Lou Lolley Endowment Fund for Theological Education. This endowment will enable people of all ages to attain the education needed to respond to God s calling into full time vocational ministry and missions. 6 Rev. Steve Byers, Music Notes Special thanks to Davis Bowen, the Primetimers Choir, and the Trinity Laymen for a great day of worship music this past Sunday. As we celebrated Baptist Heritage Day with our church family, I was reminded of how many people have served the Lord with such commitment and faithfulness over the years and are still serving in many ways today. What an example for us all! Thank you for your dedicated service to God and our church. s s s The Preschool and Children s Choirs Concert last Sunday was another great night of celebrating the good work God is doing in the lives of our children. Through music, our children learn biblical stories and truths that can last a lifetime. As we celebrated, some of the old Sunday School songs of the past were mingled in with the choir music to create a great night of multi-generational fun through music. Special thanks to all of our choirs, directors, leaders, and to Joan Phillips and Betty Babyak for serving the ice cream sandwiches afterwards. Such a fun night of music and fellowship! A Night of Praise with New Covenant, Living Praise and the Trinity Orchestra Sunday, May 15 6:00pm This is one of our spring concerts that always has a great variety of music presented by our enthusiastic vocal ensembles and orchestra. BRINGING ENERGETIC ACTIVITY THROUGH SONG Get Ready for B.E.A.T.S. in May Bringing Energetic Activity Through Song is a new program of music. On May 4, 11, 18 and 25, Students in Grades 1-5 will participate in their normal choir time scheduled at 6:00 pm, however, with a new twist. Preschool Children will still continue in their music for 4 s and 5 s with Sally Melvin and Misty Deyo. Grade 1 students will explore Tap Bells with Alma Hoffmann. Grades 2 and 3 students will have fun with hand chimes taught by Sylvia Pearce. Grades 4 & 5 students will learn how to tell biblical stories through drums and percussion with Steve and Amy Byers as teachers. This is going to be a fun time of music! On June 1, some of our musicians will be featured at the Cooper s BBQ Night in the FH.

8 Rev. Karen Metcalf Eickhoff, Foundational Principles Children are in the process of becoming. Our challenge as we reach and teach children is to: *meet each child where she/he is and *challenge her/him to become all that God has designed her/him to be. The process can neither be completed overnight nor during a specified time. If teachers take their role seriously, they can play a significant role in helping a child fulfill God s plan. During the childhood years, parents and teachers together help lay the spiritual foundations upon which each child will base his spiritual growth. A building is only as strong as its foundation. An individual s spiritual life is only as strong as the foundation on which it is built. Damaged or cracked foundations are difficult to overcome. Block Classes For Grade School Children Wednesdays 6:45pm -7:30pm Children must continue to sign-up for classes as they enter for choir. The Block classes will be held in classroooms near the choir classes and in the Gym. Check out some of the fun offerings: Crafts Galore Wacky Gym Games Missions Mania Cooking Fun Lego Land and Board Games Foundations are meant to last a lifetime they are not to be discarded when the building is completed. Spiritual foundations are also part of the individual s total spiritual growth; they are not discarded when an individual reaches adolescence or adulthood. Foundations in buildings, bridges, and other structures cannot be rushed. They require time to get firm. The childhood years are foundational years; children should not be rushed, but allowed to grow and develop, as they are ready. As adults teach children at church, they have the opportunity to contribute to their spiritual foundations. The task must not be approached haphazardly, but with specific goals in mind. Our children need a good foundation. They need parents who are godly. They need teachers and leaders that are committed to provide the best spiritual guidance and education. Please consider your role in laying a foundation for our children within the Trinity Community. We are beginning to seek volunteers to guide our children in the coming year. Pray about and answer the call if asked to serve. Better yet, volunteer and let us train you and guide you in this service. B.E.A.T.S. Begins This Week B.E.A.T.S. begins with the choir classes this week. Children must sign-up for classes as they enter for B.E.A.T.S. Surf s Up! Looking for more surfin action!
