This is a three-week class that meets at 9:45 am and is for newcomers as well as for anyone who wants to know more about our church. Many long time members have found this class informative as well and so anyone can come and attend. In the three sessions we will cover a brief Baptist history and where Trinity fits into Baptist life. We will study Trinity s identity statement as well as Trinity s leadership structure. In our final session we will discuss the Trinity budget and how we cooperate in ministry with others. This is a great way to understand more about Trinity and our ministry. Daniel & Karen Havey and their children Joseph, Henry, and Katherine Havey upon the passing of Daniel s father of Illinois on March 18 THE SECOND WEEK OF Lent Journeying through Lent is a choice. No one is there to make sure we are actively practicing our faith each day and examining our hearts in light of Christ s generosity, love, and sacrifice. As Baptists, we do not have a deep history of this type of preparation before the celebration of Christ s resurrection; so if we forget a day or two or every day after Ash Wednesday, it s okay, we re Baptists. And, that s true. It is okay. However, Lent is a gift to us. It is a gift to know that during this time of the year, Christians throughout the world are doing very similar, purposeful internal reflection and making similar sacrifices in time and desires in order to draw closer to Jesus. It is a gift to be called deeper into our walk with Christ through meditation on His words and actions. And, it is a gift to find ourselves called up into higher behavior as we seek to emulate the character of our God as revealed to us through Jesus. The choice to go deeper in our walk with Christ during Lent takes discipline and practice, as does our faith year round. The Christian faith ideally should not be a yo-yo diet of spiritual food and exercise going from one season to another forgetting what has been experienced or accomplished. Seasons of preparation like Lent and Advent condition Christians to be strong in the Lord and be of good courage every day of the year. In this second week of Lent, take some time to journal your thoughts on the Lenten journey taking particular note of the insights or spiritual practices that you would like to take with you into the rest of the year and along with you for the rest of your lifelong journey of faith. FLOWER COMMITTEE Easter Lily Sale Sunday March 24 Cost: $10 Easter Lilies will be for sale March 24. Orders can be placed with a Flower Committee member in the Narthex this Sunday, or order forms can be returned to the church office. All orders must be turned in by Wednesday, March 29. Dedicate this beautiful flower in memory or honor of a loved one, which will then decorate the Worship Center for our Easter service. Your flowers can then be picked up after the 10:55am Easter service to take home.

3 DEACON OF THE WEEK Kim Price has been a member since She is a native of Raleigh. She and her husband, Stewart, have three children. She is an Adobe Visual and Excel teacher at Sanderson High School. She serves as Sr. High Sunday school teacher and as Wedding Coordinator. She works with the Allen York Class, and with Deacons Rhonda Gubbins, Ed Duke, and John Dobyns. FAMILY PROMISE PARTNERS NEEDED Hosting Week: March 31 - April 7 Family Promise provides professional case management as well as food, shelter, and transportation for qualified homeless families as they work to restore their independence. Family Promise is one of the few agencies in the area committed to helping homeless families stay together. This is accomplished through the support of various churches in Wake County. Trinity became part of this network in July We are assigned 2 to 3 host weeks a year when Family Promise guests make Trinity their home. Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of areas. There are opportunities for individuals and Sunday School Classes. Use Signup Genius (bit.ly/fpsignupmar2019) or check at the Registration Center in the Narthex to volunteer. Family Promise brochures describing each volunteer position are also available. 4 Education/Discipleship Ministry Rev. Karen Metcalf Eickhoff, NEW CONNECTIONS SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS New Connections is a Sunday School class taught by Robin Roberts and Andrew Tatum. Our three-fold mission is as follows: 1. To belong together as members of the family of Christ. 2. To believe in the Triune God we encounter in the Scriptures and through one another. 3. To become more faithful followers of Jesus Christ through prayer, study, and fellowship. Whether you are new to Trinity (or to Church or Sunday School in general) or even if you ve been attending for some time, you are welcomed to join us as we make new connections with God, the Scriptures, and one another. This class can serve as a landing place for long-term study and fellowship or as a jumping-off point for getting re-connected to Trinity during the Sunday School hour. 5 Rev. Steve Byers, Special thanks to the Bells of Praise and the Student Choir for their worship leadership this past Sunday. In addition to the hard-working choir ministries of FirstLight and Sanctuary Choir, the ringers and students put in many hours of rehearsing and making music to praise the Lord every week. Thank God in your prayers for all of our musicians who serve faithfully year-after-year. Sanctuary Choir & Orchestra present CALVARY S LOVE MUSICAL MYTH BUSTER #8: 12 SUNDAY, APRIL 14 8:45 am & 10:55 am Services Choir musicians and directors are perfectionists. Okay, so I admit that most musically gifted and trained people can be perfectionists in their art. I can remember in my years of studying music that perfecting my art was something for which to strive. Hours of study with a master teacher, rehearsals for seasonal vocal and instrumental performances, and my own developing artistic proficiencies were the driving forces to great musicianship. Without that inner drive of being better than I was the day before, I could have been far beneath the bar of excellence in the long run. The deep satisfaction of mastering musical concepts and amazing literature was like a current running through me. So, I guess I have been trained to be a perfectionist as a professional musician, and admittedly, it does get in the way sometimes in my ministry. As a church musician, I have worked hard to teach that I never strive for YOU to be a perfectionist in presenting musical gifts to God. There is a difference in being perfect and confident. It is my hope in that when we rehearse, we are building our confidence to sing with understanding when we present the Gospel message through song. The work of the Holy Spirit is what we yield to; as the Author and Perfecter of our faith, we become the vessels by which God works and moves. Confidence and faith allow that to happen in a much better way than trying to be perfect because being perfect says more about us than it does about God. We can never be perfect in anything. We are reminded to do our best as the Psalmist stated in Psalm 33:3 and also in Ecclesiastes 9:10 Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might. I do believe that God expects us to offer our music with all that we are with the skills and talents He has given us in ways that glorify Him and edifies the body of Christ. Anything less than our best is not an offering of praise or sacrifice. He deserves our best because He gave us His best, Jesus Christ, the One and Only. Not everyone comes to choir for being excellent in music. There are so many different backgrounds and abilities in our church choirs that all are welcome here without focusing on perfection! We experience so much more than perfecting our art such as fellowship, prayer for one another, celebrating birthdays, retreats, and being involved in outside opportunities as they arise. I invite you to come and enjoy a musical family that isn t focused on perfection, but instead is focused on ministry. You are welcome here! Come just as you are! The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: He is good; his love endures forever. This is a great opportunity for anyone who loves to serve with a hammer or saw, holding a ladder, or carrying a piece of wood/siding to the person who knows what to do with it! We also need folks to feed lunch to our work teams. In other words everyone can participate! Anyone can go ANY FRIDAY between February 1 and April 5.
