Since this year is also the Jubilee year of Mercy, we may add: Every Christian is a Missionary of Mercy Mercy establishes a relationship based on human dignity and a loving respect for the other person. While justice is limited to objective goods, mercy causes people to encounter one another with the dignity proper to people. And so, our prayer during the Year of Mercy is that the merciful love of God may be made manifest through us in our reaching out to others and in our work for the spread of God s kingdom.
2 St Mary s Parish, Bennekerry Sunday 23 rd October 2016 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time MISSION SUNDAY Every Christian is a Missionary The Winds Of Fate One ship drives east and another drives west With the self-same winds that blow. Tis the set of the sails And not the gales Which tells us the way to go. Like the winds of the seas are the ways of fate, As we voyage along through the life: Tis the set of a soul That decides its goal, And not the calm or the strife. Ella Wheeler Wilcox

The meeting takes an hour or slightly longer. At present, the works consists of the Frank Duff Prayer group, called after our founder, and the Patricians, a discussion groups, held on a monthly basis at the same venue. By the way, the discussions are very interesting and people who are not members of the Legion are all welcome. Actually, the meeting is intended mainly for Catholics who are non-legionaries. We can have Home Visitation, Hospital Visitation and work for youth, if we have sufficient numbers in the Legion. We are not involved in collection of money or giving material aid. All are welcome to attend. Today is Mission Sunday. It is the one day when we are specifically asked to dig into our hearts and minds and assist our Church s universal mission. Our theme for this years Mission Sunday is Every Christian is a Missionary. We all have the privilege of sharing God s love and words with those who have not yet heard Him. Pope Francis is an enthusiastic promoter of this theme and is seeking to lead all of us in a joyful expression of our individual and unique missionary charism. In his message for Mission Sunday the Pope says As they travel through the streets of the world, the disciples of Jesus need to have a love without limits, the same measure of love that our Lord has for all people. We proclaim the most beautiful and greatest gifts that he has given us: his life and his love. The Irish missionary disciples need our spiritual and financial help today. We have some 1,200 men and women working in all corners of the world, each playing his or her part on the missionary journey. Your financial help today is crucial to their work. We can t do it without you. Large or small, it makes a huge difference and we thank you sincerely for your help.

11 THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK - Compliments Look for five things on which you can compliment your spouse, children or friends today. BE THE BEST OF WHATEVER YOU ARE If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill Be a scrub in the valley--but be The best little scrub by the side of the rill; Be a bush if you can't be a tree. If you can't be a bush be a bit of the grass, And some highway some happier make; If you can't be a muskie then just be a bass-- But the liveliest bass in the lake! We can't all be captains, we've got to be crew, There's something for all of us here. There's big work to do and there's lesser to do, And the task we must do is the near. If you can't be a highway then just be a trail, If you can't be the sun be a star; It isn't by size that you win or you fail-- Be the best of whatever you are! Douglas Malloch
12 OCTOBER O hushed October morning mild, Thy leaves have ripened to the fall; Tomorrow s wind, if it be wild, Should waste them all. The crows above the forest call; Tomorrow they may form and go. O hushed October morning mild, Begin the hours of this day slow. Make the day seem to us less brief. Hearts not averse to being beguiled, Beguile us in the way you know. Release one leaf at break of day; At noon release another leaf; One from our trees, one far away. Retard the sun with gentle mist; Enchant the land with amethyst. Slow, slow! For the grapes sake, if they were all, Whose leaves already are burnt with frost, Whose clustered fruit must else be lost For the grapes sake along the wall. ROBERT FROST
