6 English Language Ireland requires Host Families for Summer Interested? Please call or St Luke s Hospital, Kilkenny will be holding it s the annual remembrance ceremony for families who have been bereaved by the death of their child through miscarriage, still-birth, in early infancy or childhood years. This ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 11th in St Fiacre s Church, Loughboy, Kilkenny at 7.30pm. While we issue a special invitation to families who have been bereaved during the past year, this ceremony is for all families who have been bereaved, regardless of how long ago. Refreshments will be available for everyone after the ceremony in the parish centre adjacent to St Fiacre s Church. Exhibition St. Willibrord, Patron Saint of Luxembourg and his County Carlow Connection is a special exhibition in Carlow County Museum (next door to the Cathedral). St. Willibrord was trained and ordained in county Carlow in the 7 th century and he is one of Europe s most important saints. 7 On behalf of Palatine Community Text alert we wish to thank all those that helped with the clean up on Saturday 24th in Palatine & adjoining area. Between 30 & 40 bags of rubbish were collected & the area is looking very well. We would like to thank Pat Kehoe from Carlow County Council for providing us with equipment for the clean up; PJ Hickson for providing refreshments on the day and also at our AGM and, last but by no means least, Vincent Toner of Palatine House for the use of his premises during the clean up and also for allowing us host our AGM there. 10 A message for you! Below is a tree analogy of people in your life, be it friends, family, acquaintances, employees, co-workers, whomever... It goes like this: LEAF PEOPLE Some people come into your life and they are like leaves on a tree. They are only there for a season. You can't depend on them or count on them because they are weak and only there to give you shade. Like leaves, they are there to take what they need and as soon as it gets cold or a wind blows in your life they are gone. You can't be angry at them, it's just who they are. BRANCH PEOPLE There are some people who come into your life and they are like branches on a tree. They are stronger than leaves, but you have to be careful with them. They will stick around through most seasons, but if you go through a storm or two in your life it's possible that you could lose them. Most times they break away when it's tough. Although they are stronger than leaves, you have to test them out before you run out there and put all your weight on them. In most cases they can't handle too much weight. But again, you can't be mad with them, it's just who they are. ROOT PEOPLE If you can find some people in your life who are like the roots of a tree then you have found something special. Like the roots of a tree, they are hard to find because they are not trying to be seen. Their only job is to hold you up and help you live a strong and healthy life. If you thrive, they are happy. They stay low key and don't let the world know that they are there. And if you go through an awful storm they will hold you up. Their job is to hold you up, come what may, and to nourish you, feed you and water you. Just as a tree has many limbs and many leaves, but few roots, so are beings too! BE A ROOT TO MANY!

Under the new allocations we have been fortunate enough to be able to appoint Ms. Aoife Rice to the position of Assistant Principal 1 and Mrs. Patricia Bowe and Ms. Deirdre Tomlinson as Assistant Principal 2s. We welcome them to the leadership and management team and are confident that their collective experience and enthusiasm will serve to create an even more positive learning environment for all our pupils. Comhnú Leanaí/Child Protection Statement and Risk Assessment: In accordance with the requirements of the Children First Act 2015, Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children 2017, the Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools 2017 and Tusla Guidance on the preparation of Child Safeguarding Statements, the Board of Management of Bennekerry N.S. has ratified the Child Safeguarding Statement for Bennekerry N.S. This includes a Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment which was drawn up in consultation with parents, staff and members of the board. The document is available to view on the school website. Please also note the updated version of our Code of Behaviour which includes three new appendices. As part of the Child Safeguarding Risk assessment, we remind you once again that school supervision is only in place from 9:10am each morning and supervision at the gate finishes at 3:15 pm each evening.
