St Mary s Parish, Bennekerry Sunday 17 th July 2016 Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time A Blessing May the light of your soul guide you May the light of your soul bless the work you do with the secret love and warmth of your heart. May you see in what you do the beauty of your own soul. May the sacredness of your work bring healing, Light and renewal to those who work with you and to those who see and receive your work. May your work never weary you. May it release within you wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement. May you be present in what you do. May you never become lost in the bland absences. May the day never burden. May dawn find you awake and alert, approaching your new day with dreams, possibilities and promises. May evening find you gracious and fulfilled. May you go into the night blessed, sheltered and protected May your soul calm, console and renew you. John O Donohue ( )

An Old Woman of the Roads O, to have a little house! To own the hearth and stool and all! The heaped up sods upon the fire, The pile of turf against the wall! To have a clock with weights and chains And pendulum swinging up and down! A dresser filled with shining delph, Speckled and white and blue and brown! I could be busy all the day Clearing and sweeping hearth and floor, And fixing on their shelf again My white and blue and speckled store! I could be quiet there at night Beside the fire and by myself, Sure of a bed and loth to leave The ticking clock and the shining delph! Och! but I'm weary of mist and dark, And roads where there's never a house nor bush, And tired I am of bog and road, And the crying wind and the lonesome hush! And I am praying to God on high, And I am praying Him night and day, For a little house - house of my own - Out of the wind's and the rain's way. Pádraic Colum
SOME SUMMER THOUGHTS Do you know why a car's windshield is so large & the rear view mirror is so small? because our past is not as important as our future. So, look ahead and move on. Friendship is like a book. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write. All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long either. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, God smiles from above and says, "Relax, it's just a bend, not the end!" When God solves your problems, you have faith in his abilities; when God doesn't solve your problems, he has faith in your abilities. A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision."
Extracts From Bennekerry N/S Newsletter Summer 16 CHARITY EVENTS Sixth Class pupils organised a fantastic Fun Day with lots of activities for all the pupils from Infants to 5th Class. The children had a most enjoyable day and the event raised 1,8430 for charity. The 6th class pupils have decided to share the money they raised between Crumlin Children s Hospital, Carlow Kilkenny Homecare Team, St. Clare s Kitchen, and World Vision Ireland. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful support. A special thanks to all who donated prizes for the raffle. Money which was very generously donated by the pupils in the Sacramental Classes will also be shared among these four charities. Thank you very much to everyone who bought sunflower seeds in aid of Carlow / Kilkenny Hospice. A competition for the tallest sunflower will take place in September Remembering all who died in Somme in 1916 rip To My Daughter Betty In wiser days, my darling rosebud, blown To beauty proud as was your Mother s prime. In that desired, delayed, incredible time, You ll ask why I abandoned you, my own, And the dear heart that was your baby throne, To die with death. And oh! they ll give you rhyme And reason: some will call the thing sublime, And some decry it in a knowing tone. So here, while the mad guns curse overhead, And tired men sigh with mud for couch and floor, Know that we fools, now with the foolish dead, Died not for flag, nor King, nor Emperor, But for a dream, born in a herdsmen shed, And for the secret Scripture of the poor. Thomas Kettle's death at Ginchy on the Somme in 1916,
Tuesday 26 th July is the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The National Grandparents Association was founded to pass on the faith to grandchildren. Grandparents Mass The 10am Mass in Carlow Cathedral next Saturday 23 rd July will celebrate the work of the Catholic Grandparents Association. We welcome all children and their grandparents to join us in prayer. Pope Benedict XVI - Prayer for Grandparents Lord Jesus, you were born of the Virgin Mary, the daughter of Saints Joachim and Anne. Look with love on grandparents the world over. Protect them! They are a source of enrichment for families, for the Church and for all of society. Support them! As they grow older, may they continue to be for their families strong pillars of Gospel faith, guardians of noble domestic ideals, living treasuries of sound religious traditions. Make them teachers of wisdom and courage; that they may pass on to future generations the fruits of their mature, human and spiritual experience. Lord Jesus, help families and society to value the presence and roles of grandparents. May they never be ignored or excluded but always encounter respect and love. Help them to live serenely and to feel welcomed in all the years of life which you give them. Mary, Mother of all the living, keep grandparents constantly in our care, accompany them on their earthly pilgrimage, and by your prayers, grant that all families may one day be reunited in our heavenly homeland, where you await all humanity for the great embrace of life without end. Amen. National Grandparents Pilgrimage Sunday 11 th September Chief Celebrant: Archbishop Michael Neary Patron of the CGA. 2.30pm Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick with Music and Song. 3pm Pilgrimage Mass followed by Rosary.
