Bennekerry Sun 11.30am; Tinryland Tues 9.30am & Sunday 10am ************ Deadline for items for Newsletter is 5pm on Wednesday by phone to or to office@askeaparish.ie Website: For the man who approaches Jesus in today s Gospel, the stakes are too high. He is living a good life and keeping God s commandments, but he is unable, or unwilling, to make the final push and give up his attachment to wealth and possessions. There is no doubt that it is a radical demand that Jesus makes of him. It might seem impractical to us who hear this message today. How do we give everything away to follow Jesus? Start today: think about your contributions to charity or to your parish do you really give as much as you can afford? Is there some luxury that you could forego and give the money to charity? Could you spare some time for a good cause? Start heading down this path and who knows where it will lead! Tríona Doherty Intercom Magazine
2 St Mary s Parish, Bennekerry Twenty Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Sunday 4 th October 2015 PIED BEAUTY Glory be to God for dappled things For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow; For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim; Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches wings; Landscape plotted and pieced fold, fallow, and plough; And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim. All things counter, original, spare, strange; Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?) With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim; He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change: Praise him. Gerard Manley Hopkins (1918)

5 St Lazarian s and Tir na nog Respite House There is International consensus that Respite Care is now the Primary Service need of families and children with a disability. Tír na nóg respite service was founded in 2005 by the Board of Tír ni nóg Management at Holy Angels Day Care Centre. It operates a service in rented accommodation at 2 Friar s Green, Tullow Road where it has been since The plan is to have a new purpose-built house on the Brownshill Road. The staff provide a respite service to children with a mild, moderate or severe intellectual disability, from the ages of 2 to 18 years. Currently at Tir na nóg they provide respite breaks to 40 children from Carlow and surrounding counties. The aim of the service is to provide children with disabilities and their families the benefit of short term respite breaks and in doing so, offer opportunities and experiences for each child through interaction with other children in a warm, caring and stimulating environment. Businesses, associations and individuals have already raised some of the 365,000 needed. The project has been donated a site by a local property developer and have also been donated the services of an architect. Major fundraising is now required to build the house and fit it out to the required standard. Strictly Fun Dancing takes place on Friday 16 th October in the Seven Oaks Hotel starting at 8pm. Twelve pairs of local dancers including Mary Shannon and Norah Holohan will perform on the night. Tickets of 20 for the event are available from Mary or Norah Thanks - Norah Holohan wishes to thank everyone who supported the recent Coffee Morning in aid of the St Lazarian s and Tír na nóg Respite House. A total of 780 was raised. Sincere thanks to everyone for their generosity.
6 Askea Senior Citizens Celebrations Askea Community Group / Senior Citizens. Askea Parish Community Group are celebrating 25 Years together. In 1990 when Askea became a new Parish, the Community Group was started. 12 Extracts from Bennekery School Newsletter INTO Campaign- Stand Up for Primary Education The Irish National Teachers Association (INTO) is currently running a campaign called Stand Up for Primary Education to highlight primary education in Budget We urge all parents to support this campaign which is seeking smaller classes, an increase in funding for primary schools and additional support for school leadership. Children get one chance in primary education. Investment in primary education benefits everybody and has a long term impact. Each family is asked to our public representatives from a link on where you will find a standard letter and contact details for Bobby Aylward TD (FF), Patrick Deering TD (FG), John McGuinness TD (FF), Minister Ann Phelan (Lab), John Paul Phelan TD (FG) (This takes less than one minute to complete.) The INTO has also organised a petition which you can sign by simply texting StandUp to 50050, free of charge. I would be very grateful for your support for this campaign which will hopefully help to bring improvements in funding for Primary Education. Please make an effort to send the and text. If you could do all both, that would be great!
