I cleaned my room. I gave my sister a bath. I family surprised my mom for her berthday! I played cards with my grandpa. I helped my dad with his pills. I made are pancakes 8 youth envelopes were turned in last week $12.27 Stewardship of Treasure From last week s collection Weekly Contribution Budget $ 22, Weekly Envelopes $ EFT Collection NA Loose Collection $ 1, Total $ 12, As human beings, we seem to have a wide array of insatiable desires. We long for more money, more time, and more stuff. We spend millions of dollars each year on remedies for our overeating. We look to our neighbors to see what they have that we want so we can keep up with them in the race toward happiness. We look for instant gratification only to find that our hunger for whatever it is remains intact. Stewardship is the pathway to curbing all those cravings. On this journey, we let go of things that keep us tied down to this world and tied up in our sin. All that we have becomes instruments for God to use in our lives and the lives of our neighbors. When we have detached from enough in this world, we find out the truth: Nothing on earth can truly satisfy our cravings completely. Jesus Christ is the sole answer for our needs and desires. Although the truth is right in front of us at each and every Mass in the Eucharist, we can easily spend our days in denial of that truth. It takes trust to step out in faith and give it all over to God. We are all called to let go and let God be God. Answering the call is easier said than done. However, if we can finally make that bold move, we will find ourselves completed by the One who was with us all along.
3 GOSPEL MEDITATION Seminarian Collection Providing priests for the future is all about being spiritually fed. That is why the Annual Seminarian Collection: Hope for the Future, Help them Today is so important. By now you most likely received a letter from Bishop Ricken requesting your help in supporting our local seminarians. Please return your generous contribution to this collection, using the pledge card and return envelope you received in the mail. A gift of $25, $100, $250, $500 or more will help our seminarians move forward in their work of becoming missionary disciples. Every gift makes a difference. Our seminarians are our Hope for the Future, Let us Help them Today! As a Diocese, we anticipate costs of $1,000,000 this year for tuition, room and board, health insurance, support of the Office of Vocations and the work of Fr. Mark Mleziva and Fr. Quinn Mann. Friends and followers of Jesus support one another! To make your gift today, visit In an on-demand society, it's not always easy to imagine life with less. The crowds of Jesus' day depended on the weather and successful growing seasons for their livelihood. For many of Jesus' listeners, even "food that perishes" would have been a welcome relief. Jesus acknowledges this but tries to draw them deeper. "You are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled." For people who have just witnessed a miracle, the response is strangely marked by ingratitude. "What can you do? Our ancestors ate manna in the desert." Jesus fed them for one day, but Moses interceded with God for 40 years of bread. "Jesus," they seem to say, "can't you just give us more?" How often do we behave similarly in the spiritual life? "If I only I had more patience, then I could be kind to her." "I could be welcoming if I was more outgoing, but that's just not me." "I know I'd be a better parent if I just had more time." Like the crowds, we want Jesus to give us more. We always don't want him to completely shift our paradigm. Perhaps it's not "more patience" we need, but a deeper sense of our own imperfections for a greater sense of empathy. Maybe God is inviting you not to entertain an entire group, but to seek out the quiet person on the fringe. And time may limit you from family engagement, but could God be asking you to reorder your priorities entirely? After all, it wasn't more loaves that the people needed. Jesus is "the bread of life," who sustains our most essential needs. This week, are you looking for more or are you looking for God Himself? Prayer Before or After Receiving Our Lord in the Eucharist Lord, let Your Precious Body and Blood mix with mine and travel through my body, healing all my fears, all my illnesses. And fill me with Your peace. Let Your Precious Body and Blood mix with mine and flow throughout my being. Make me into all You would have me be, that I might love like You! AMEN
4 2018 Mobile Pack Registration Exciting News!! We have added 2 more packing sessions on Wednesday for this year s Mobile Pack. The goal is to pack 750,000 meals so many more volunteers are needed. DID YOU KNOW Corporal Work of Mercy: Visit the sick This work of mercy invites us to visit someone who is in the hospital or is homebound. The touch of a hand, a hug or real eye contact can be great healers to the human spirit. Visiting the sick can be challenging for those of us who are healthy, and yet the great gift we receive is the new compassion that is carved out in our hearts as we listen to those who are frail or even dying. The Scriptures are replete with examples of Jesus visiting and healing the sick. But a visit to a sick person can and does so often have a healing effect. One of the most treasured ministries of the church is that of an extraordinary minister of communion to the homebound. Not only is there a visit to the home (or hospital), but the bringing of Holy Communion to that person. It is a particularly beautiful way to visit the sick, to bring Jesus to that person in the Blessed Sacrament. If you are interested in joining a group or forming a group please contact: Terry Raupp tjraupp54313@gmail.com or Cheryl Yursis cherylyursis@gmail.com If you just want to sign up on your own follow the instructions below: What can I do? *Volunteer to bring food to the homes of the elderly and isolated through a program like Meals on Wheels? * Listening to them speak of their illness or concerns. * Pick up a book, an audio book or music, at the library. *Train to be an extraordinary minister of communion to the homebound or nursing homes. *Offer a ride to mass or to an appointment. *Offer to shop for them. *Send them a card. *Check in with a phone call. These are truly corporal works of mercy bringing Jesus, the face of the Father s mercy, to one who is sick. Next week: Corporal Work of Mercy: Bury the Dead We become what we love and who we love shapes what we become. --St. Clare of Assisi We are also in need of some additional people to work as rovers/greeters and registration for the Wednesday evening shift and the Thursday morning shift. Contact Cheryl Yursis direct for these positions. Rover/Greeters Friendly and outgoing people, willing to direct people, and able to be on your feet for most of the shift Greeting at the door, directing the flow of people, Checking/ refreshing supplies during packing shift, using smart phones to take pictures of groups packing meals, thanking packers, and cleanup. Find names on a list and check off packers as they come in. Help consolidate the lists after check in is complete. In MSDC you are never along. When you come you can tell them anything and they will not make fun of you, they will help you. In MSDC you learn alot out service. You might not want to come because you maybe think it s dumb or boring but when you come you will have a great week and you will want to come back. MSDC lets and helps you grow in not only your faith but also your leadership skills. So please come and join MSDC you will have the time of your life! 8th Grade Boy It is the last day of MSDC and my heart is bursting. This week my heart has been filled with joy by being able to lead the parish s youth and seeing Christ in so many ways every day. I truly believe in this program it provides an opportunity for middle schoolers to work on opening themselves up to feel the presence of God and realize the real & deep love of God that they may never fully understood to feel before. I was not able to experience this until my freshman year of high school. I feel it is my mission to know how to live their faith and have passion for it earlier than I did. I hope all middle schoolers in our parish allow themselves to open their hearts attending this camp. God Bless, A high school Camp Counselor
