3 THE HOLY FAMILY This Sunday, the family life of Jesus, Mary and Joseph is put before us as a model to imitate. We call them the holy family but much like other families today, they had their own problems to conquer and overcome. For instance, Joseph getting Mary safely to Bethlehem and him helping through the birth of Jesus and Mary s trust in him to do so. As Jesus grew up, imagine the toll the public ministry of Jesus must have taken on Mary and Joseph as they knew the dangers involved and the amazement they also felt. It must also have pained them to see the taunting about Jesus: Behold a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax-collectors and sinners (Luke 7:34). And there was their worry about the growing hostility toward Jesus from the Jewish authorities who were determined that he must die. What sustained the family of Nazareth through all of these trials and crosses? The answer is love for each other and for God. What holds families together also in times of difficulty is love and forgiveness. It is love which triumphs in the end, even if sometimes it may have to take the form of tough love and honest talking. If ever our families fail in any way, it may be because of a lack of love on someone s part. When families are successful, it is typically because their homes are places where love is highly prized. So, Look to Jesus, Mary and Joseph as ones to imitate in our own families. Just as the holy family survived all its crises through their love for each other and their faith in God, let us continually pray that our families will deal with difficulties and hold together through love for each other and faith in God. Gather together as a family to work on a common project. You might prepare a meal together, prepare a special dessert, or perhaps do a craft together. When you finish, talk about how each family member contributed to the common project. Remind one another that each member of the family contributes to the good of the whole family. Recall that Jesus was also part of a family and that this Sunday we celebrate the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Read together today's Gospel, Matthew 2:13-15, Pray together that your family will continue to protect and care for one another as Mary and Joseph protected and cared for Jesus. A Thank you from a parish family We would like to thank the people who donated a Thanksgiving meal to our family. We are very appreciative of that. And thank you so much for all the gift cards-our Christmas will be (was) magical! This was definitely a very big help to us! God Bless You!

January 14 th March for Life Chicago a.m.-9:15 p.m. Help us pack a BUS full of SJB parishioners who are pro-life and passionate to share our Catholic beliefs of standing up for our youngest in society! Our parish has the unique opportunity to fill a bus to go to the March for Life in Chicago on Sunday, January 14 th from 8 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. It s $30 per person OR $85 per family (unlimited family member count)! Pack your own lunches, and pay for a dinner at a fast food restaurant on the way back! Our parish has limited spots to fill, so reserve your spot with the Faith Formation Offices before January 5 th! If you have questions, contact Kym Allex in the parish offices! Here are five reasons to join us: 1. It's convenient. With pickup locations in 13 places statewide, there s a place to board the bus near you. Hop on a bus in Brookfield, Richfield, Madison, Beloit, Green Bay, Manitowoc, Kenosha, Appleton, Oshkosh, Fond Du Lac La Crosse, Sparta, Wausau, Plover, Eau Claire. 2. It's affordable. We know that your time and money are limited. For $30 per person or $85/family or 4 or more, you can be a part of a major march for life in one day. 3. It's inspirational. How can marching with 10,000 other pro-lifers in a major city not inspire you to dedicate more energy to pro-life prayer and action all year long? 4. It's educational. You ll hear internationally renowned pro-life speakers, have eye opening discussions with other participants and see some pro-life videos on the bus ride. 5. It's life saving. Your witness will save lives. We don t always know how or when a life is saved, but this outreach lets mothers in the community know their child is loved and cherished by a supportive community. SPEAKERS: Among the speakers are co-owner of the Chicago Bears, a former Planned Parenthood director, Archbishop of Chicago and the Executive Director of the Billy Graham Center for Evangelism. PLEASE COME JOIN US!
