2 Force NOTICE: Betty will not be serving a Wednesday meal on June 11th and 18th due to Vacation Bible School and Youth Force. Betty will need help in the kitchen during those weeks if you have a free hour or so. JUNE If you would like to volunteer during this week, there is still time. Help will always be needed. Call the church and talk with Justin I m sure he will find a spot for you. HELP FEED HUNGRY KIDS IN DUNCAN! Spokes for Hope Is a non-profit organization that packs healthy lunches and delivers them to kids across Duncan. Last year they took the lunches to 2 sites; this year they have expanded to 7 sites. They are in need of 2 types of volunteers: People to help make sandwiches and pack the lunches. Be at The Well, 913 W. Main at 9:30 any or every day, Mon. Friday and be finished about 11:00. Just show up no appointment is necessary!! Back-up drivers to deliver the lunches to the sites. There are regularly scheduled drivers for each day, but sometimes things come up and these drivers can t be there. So substitutes are needed who are willing to come to The Well about 11:00, load the lunches for one of the sites in their vehicle, and deliver the lunches to that particular site. Please call Bea LeValley, , if you are willing to be a substitute driver. You will be notified a couple of days ahead of time. We are now live-streaming our traditional service on the internet. With this new venture we need more volunteers on Sunday mornings. 'You're not supposed to talk out loud in church.' 'Why? Who's going to stop me?' Joel asked. Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, 'See those two men standing by the door? They're hushers.'

Dr. Greg Tolle Vacation Bible School starts next Monday, June 9. longer Although I am no the Director of Children s Ministries, I still get to help with Vacation Bible School! Two of my grandchildren, Mason who is 11 and Miles who is 10, will be coming up from the Dallas area to spend the week with us and go to VBS for the 8th year! They talk about VBS all year long and both of them plan to be helpers when they age out and can no longer attend as participants! Miles told me a couple of weeks ago that he is going to be a helper even when he is in college! I remember the 2nd or 3rd year they were attending VBS and we were spending the afternoon swimming. They were trying to work out who would be Jesus and who would be Peter: No, I want to be Jesus and you be Peter! No, I want to be Jesus because Jesus walked on water and Peter fell in! Never underestimate the influence we have on our children s lives when we offer this week of Bible study, crafts, recreation, snacks, music and lots and lots of love and hugs and special attention! Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it. (Lk. 18:17) Shalom, Kathy Gibson, Ministry Coordinator Kathy s Corner Winifred s Notes The music for this past Sunday was very nice. The duet sung by Jai Brancich and Peter Thomas was very well done. Jai has sung before either a solo or in ensembles; however, this was Peter s first time to sing in a duet. Guys, you did a great job. The choir introit was great. Feedback from the live feed was that the sound was much better this week and that you sounded really good. It is sometimes disheartening when there are seven choir members sitting in the pews rather than singing with the choir. Everyone needs a break occasionally. I pray that this is a temporary situation!! We need everyone singing with the choir as often as possible. This week, June 8, the music will be two anthems that reflect the spirit of Pentecost: Every Time I Feel the Spirit will be the introit. The choir has sung this several times. The second anthem will be Spirit Come Down. This anthem is new and has the feeling of a spiritual. The choir enjoys singing both of these anthems. Rev. Dr. Tolle will be preaching a sermon on Pentecost. The sermon topic is Earth, Wind and Fire. The scripture is Acts 2:1-21. Winifred Bailey Director of Traditional Worship & Music First off I would like to let everyone know, if you haven t heard I AM ENGAGED! Molly Gropp was the intern here at the church last summer. The SPRC thought it was a good idea to have my girlfriend around for the summer and she did an amazing job. This past week on my trip to Indiana I proposed to Molly and she even said yes! If you want to hear the story, come talk to me about it! In the youth ministry we have plenty of events to be a part of! So keep watch on the calendar and the Proclaim! 4 2014 Oklahoma Annual Conference We have just completed four intense days as the Lay Delegates from FUMC to the 2014 Session of the Oklahoma Conference held at St. Luke s UMC and Oklahoma City University. Each day started early with a packed business session and ended each evening with an uplifting worship service and beautiful music. These worship services were highlighted by messages from Bishop Hayes and guest preacher Rev. Jasmine Smothers of Atlanta, Georgia. Our respect and admiration continues to grow for our Bishop, Robert E. Hayes, Jr. How fortunate we Methodists in Oklahoma are to have such an outstanding leader. (Even his booming voice sounds like the voice of God). Could Duncan FUMC join with other Methodist Churches in our area, and host a special worship service in our Center to hear Bishop Hayes preach on the love of God? Bishop Hayes is retiring in 2016, so this needs to happen as quickly as possible. The theme of the 2014 conference was All Things New. The Bishop asks that we walk with him in making things new as we deal with 4 church closings this year. Average worship attendance has dropped by 6,414 over seven years to a total average worship attendance of 52,180 in New people joining through profession of faith, has dropped by 356 people to 2,064 in Due in part to the above figures, we were asked to vote on 3 important proposals:. Change in Health Benefits for Retired Clergy. Passed by 95%.. Missional Realignment of the Districts: The proposal was to decrease from 12 Districts to 8 Districts by June 1, With the decrease from 12 to 8 in district superintendent salaries, the conference would hire 6 full time administrative assistants to support the work of the districts, allowing more time for the District Superintendents (renamed Key Missional Strategists) to be in the field. After much discussion this proposal passed by 81%.. Realignment of Financial Resources. This proposal created the most discussion as it involved significant changes in the 2015 Conference Budget. A new budget line item, New People/New Places was added to create a way for churches, new church starts, and missional fellowships to access funds to do something significant to bring new people into the church. Next, the Congregational Development line item will increase the new church start s budgets to support new faith communities. In order to achieve this large goal (without asking the local churches to increase their apportionments) the council has reduced their funding to some of the existing ministries over the next four years. Some of these agencies and institutions include Campus Ministries, Circle of Care, Volunteers in Mission, and Cookson Hills, among a number of others. These agencies are being encouraged to solicit their own funds to supplement the reduced funds from Oklahoma Conference. After a half-day round table and much discussion, this last proposal passed by 68%. The Conference ended with a beautiful Service of Sending Forth. The Bishop asked us as laity and clergy of the United Methodist Church to become bridge builders and develop a passion for the unity of the church toward a goal of understanding and reconciliation.
