4 The Gospel Jam has been gathering on a regular basis at Brainerd United Methodist Church since July 31, It grew out of various acoustic gospel programs that the group conducted beginning in The Gospel Jam seeks to keep alive the old-time gospel songs characteristic of the Appalachian region. It does so within the framework of an informal and highly participatory gospel service. Evelyn writes: I have been a part of BUMC gospel jam since it started in the basement of the building we now meet in. I find great pleasure in playing my instrument and especially playing gospel music. I started playing after retirement; however, I had played violin while in school. I once asked Richard Young what his thoughts were on why we enjoyed our playing so much and he replied, Well, it is a spiritual experience - you are bringing a part of yourself out through your instrument and producing something beautiful with others. I liked that! At least we think it is beautiful! The jam is something we look forward to on Sunday evenings and if we are out of town, we try to get home in time for the jam. Join us at the Jam on Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m.

We provide emergency food assistance and referrals to all UTC students enrolled in one or more credit hours. WE NEED YOUR HELP! We cannot operate Scrappy s Cupboard without your support. 6 The United Methodist Women members recently held a Back To School Party for 11 women and 20 children from Family Way. School supplies and items were purchased for each child according to their grade and school. Each mother was treated with a goodies bag and a small vase of fresh cut flowers. Light refreshments were served to the special guests. The fellowship and enjoyment with the mothers and children and the UMW members was outstanding. As activities resume after the summer break, all women of the church are invited to join a Circle and support the outreach mission of the UMW. We also have the nursery open for children under the age of three during the Church service. We encourage children three and older to join their families for the service and then come to Sunday School. THEY ARE HERE! After the service, walk (don t run) to your nearest Narthex.
