This course will help us look at our prayer-life and provide a guided experience of various forms and styles of prayer. Study books are $10.00 each. Begins this Sunday Morning 9:00 A Disciple s Path taught by LaVonna Funkhouser. This study is an invitation to take the next step along the path of your discipleship as a follower of Jesus. Study book and workbook are $15.00 per person. Sunday Afternoon 4:00 Hallelujah: The Bible and Handel s Messiah Lenten Portion taught by Kathy Gibson. We are using the same book used in the Christmas study. If you didn t participate in that study you may purchase a book for $ Please register even if you participated in the Advent portion of the study!

They receive clothing on Mondays and Fridays only from 11am to 1pm. Bring them to the Adult Wing at the north end of the church, and someone will be there to receive your offerings. It will be greatly appreciated.. Vacation Bible School June 9 13 We are starting to prepare for VBS and need your help!!! 3 This weekend has fun stuff for us to do on both Saturday and Sunday! On Saturday is the re-scheduled Re-ignite conference for our district. The youth have their own things going on that include a lesson on leadership in their ministry and then some mission work in Duncan. It all starts up at 10:00 am! Then on Sunday our youth and First Christian Church s youth with be washing potatoes for the Toy Shop Spud Lunch that will be on Tuesday March 4th. The spud washing starts at 2:00 and as soon as we finish up with the potatoes we will be going bowling and having a great time together, which you won t want to miss! Coming Events Saturday March 1st: Re-ignite 10:00 am - 3:30 pm Sunday March 2nd: 9am - Roots Starts up at 9:00 am in the morning in the Center! 10am - Connexion Service - Sermon from Matthew17:1-9 2pm - Spud washing followed by Bowling! Wednesday March 5th: 6:15pm - Elevate_! It s not about us it is about Him! NEWs FrOm the Staff from the As we prepare for Lent, I m excited about our Ash Wednesday service next week at 7pm. It is a brief service that conveniently follows our normal Wednesday Night Live activities and our TOLLEHOUSE youth will join us for worship in place of the Elevate_ worship. Also related to Lent, I d like to share that Stephens UMC offers Lenten Lunches once a week at noon during Lent. This year, the lunches will be held on Tuesdays, and I will be the speaker on April 8 th. There is no specific charge but donations are accepted. It is a good time of food, fellowship, and a brief message. For working folks, you can make it back by 1 p.m. I hope you will consider these Lent-focused opportunities. May God Peace Be with You, Rev. Dr. Greg Tolle, Senior Minister Justin Sommer Worship Leader & Youth Director I really enjoyed getting to do the Children s Sermon on Sunday. It is so exciting to visit with our children because you never really know what they are going to say much to the fear and dread of their parents sitting in the pews! But, I love it because they are so honest and uncensored! That s why it was such a joy to talk to them about loving people and to hear them tell me some of the people they love God and Jesus, their parents, teachers, friends. Then I asked about people who aren t always nice to them and treat them naughty sometimes and they also had some examples of those people (which they whispered to me.) But, when I asked if we should love those people, too, each of them answered yes! Out of the mouths of babes! You have heard it said that you should love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who are naughty to you.. (Matt. 5:43-44) Thanks for the reminder, kids! Kathy s Corner Shalom, Kathy Gibson Ministry Coordinator Easter Sunday is later this year... April 20th. Maundy Thursday will be observed on April 17th. The orchestra has been acquired for both Maundy Thursday and Easter Music Sunday. The cantata has been Notes handed out and rehearsals have begun. The seasonal singers will be invited to join in our rehearsals on March 12 at 6:40. There are several of you who are regular seasonal singers; there are several of you who come to worship and think, I d like to sing in the choir but I don t think I can commit to rehearsals every Wednesday night. 4 NEWs FrOm the Staff CJAMM - part 2 Last week, we had a Children s Council meeting that was AWESOME!!! Thank you to everyone who attended. So many fabulous ideas and contributions came out of this meeting and I am so super pleased! This Sunday, March 2 nd, the Children s Chimes will be playing in Traditional service and we will be rattling the buckets for VBS! Children s Ministry is also the Mission Moment for this Sunday and we will be showing the video that we have been working on during this time! God is continuing to work in this important ministry of our church. God is GOOD all the time! Mark your calendar for March 7 th, which will be our Children s Movie Night! We will start at 6:00 p.m. and each child should bring $5.00 for pizza, popcorn, and a movie! I encourage everyone to bring a friend! Faith, Grace, and Hope~ Tara Cook Director of Children s Ministry & Nursery Coordinator We continue to stay super busy in our Preschool/MDO classes! We are looking forward to celebrating Dr. Seuss s Birthday next week! Dr. Seuss week is all of the adult s favorite time of the year- we get to act even sillier than normal and have something to blame it on. If you would be interested in coming up and reading your favorite Dr. Seuss book to our kids, please call or me to schedule a time. We love to have guests come in and read to us! The Criminal Justice and Mercy Ministries (CJAMM) of our Oklahoma Conference has not only set the standard for prison ministries but has also inspired visions of more that needs to be done. One of the outstanding programs of CJAMM is New Day Camps. These events, held at Cross Point Camp on Lake Texoma, are designed for children and youth whose parents are incarcerated. Children swim, fish, play, and generally enjoy the beautiful campgrounds together; some of these children have never been out of the city before this camp opportunity. The camps are staffed by volunteers and funded by contributions. Children with incarcerated parents experience a stigma most of us can never imagine. It is a great gift to be in a place where everyone is facing the same challenges, to be able to draw from each others experiences, and to learn you are not alone in your position in life. New Day Camp can be the first place a child realizes he can be his own person. Criminal Justice and Mercy Ministries is a perfect example of the work The United Methodist Church is doing in this world: Making life better by sharing Jesus love. We are fortunate to have CJAMM in place in the Oklahoma Conference. Duncan First United Methodist Church will support CJAMM with $2, in 2014, a very small amount compared to the good these funds will do and the number of lives it will change.
