4 Ministering to men Presbyterian Men s Group Recap of our October Men s Breakfast and Meeting. We had 18 men attend the breakfast, which consisted of rib eye steaks, hash browns, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, and fruit. If you were not able to attend this month, you really missed a great meal and fellowship. We hope to see you in November. I would like to thank Mike Revel, John Marlatt, Michael Henderson, Kyle Lafreniere, John Watters, and Charlie Schuler for coming early to help setup and prepare the meal. Meeting Notes: Charlie gave a great devotional about calming the storm to start the meeting. Dwight Edens asked the group for support for Toys for Kids. Pete Chamberlain suggested we each donate to this cause, and I lost count at ten men that donated. Thank you to everyone that helped support this organization. Ozzie Smith asked Charlie to give an update on the church grounds. He reported on damage and the steps that are being taken to correct. Pete Chamberlain let everyone know that he has a car trailer if anyone needs assistance moving vehicles around. John Watters reported on items around the church that need to be addressed. We decided that Saturday, October 28 th would be a good day to schedule a work day. We will be clearing vine from the chain link fence on the lot across the street, re-shingling the sign roof, and grinding stumps around the property. Can you please respond and let me know if you can attend this work day? We will meet at 7:30am. Thank you again to everyone that attended the breakfast this month. Our breakfast/ meeting is always scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month, so next month s meeting will be held on Wednesday November 15 at 7 am in the café. I hope to see you there and enjoy your fellowship. Please let me know if you have any ideas for improvement, or if I forgot any discussion notes from the meeting. Thank you, Jeremy Schuler Schuler's Home Services, LLC
5 Odds and Ends First month update! By some craziness it has been one whole month of living in a new place. I say it that way because we really aren t that different right now. I was displaced by choice, and you by force but we are all trying to find a new normal amongst this chaos of life. MY new normal looks a lot like walking, riding busses, drinking tea, eating toast, and meeting smiling faces. There is a kind spirit in the people here. It feels familiar and a little like home even though it sounds funny. My job has me a little all over the place. I am placed at Cranhill Church but also work with the development trust. Cranhill is a small church, 30 members. So they are in this grouping with two other small churches. I also work with them them. I work with children after school and young women s groups in the evenings. I eat lunch and craft with the young at heart groups during the day. Every Wednesday I get my fingers a little dirty and work in the community garden, talking about healthy food choices and how we have many different names for fruits and veg in the states. The garden is one of my favorite places. There is an ease in the air to talk to people about their stores and the injustice in the world. There is learning and joy in the garden. Also a lot of slugs! My weekends are spent exploring the city, laughing with my flatmates and attempting (failing) to win pub quizzes. Life is a little slower for me here that what I have known for the past 22 years. I have free time to read Jane Austen, journal, and take naps. My grandma will be happy to know we got our library cards with in the first few days. I m starting to feel at home and get the hang of this rainy city. in 2 Jay Jaggard 5 Trey Little 6 Jean Holland 7 Samantha Gloor Shamyra Little 12 Rosalind Foust 19 Spencer Yarnall 24 Gordon Stanley Will Forrest Braxton Yarnall 28 Donald Bird Rick Roe If your birthday is not listed, or in error, please call the church office at I m praying for you all as you restore Rockport and find a new normal. My new community is also praying for you through it all. They know where Rockport is (kinda) which still blows my mind every day that our little fishing town made international news. Missing you all dearly and am thankful for your support as I continues to figure life out abroad. I am writing about more specific experiences on my blog, alwayskatieann.com if you would like to keep up with more of my year. I will also be posting a blog of just photos soon if you would enjoy looking at that! Please feel free to or write me with what you would specifically like to hear about from me. katie.ann321@gmail.com Address: Katie Henderson 259 Renfrew St. Apt 1 / 2 Glasgow, Scotland G3 6TT Love and blessings, Katie 5
