'So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?' 'That's right.' So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets (Unbelievable but sadly true...)

4 Thank God for another year; last year was a rousing success. Our first bigdeal for 2010 will be the Nautical Flea Market, exact date not yet known. I ve started gathering sales items and ask that you all start hustling with me. We have a busy agenda for our 2 February meeting, so please show up and share your opinions and ideas. I don t know the luncheon menu yet, but I m certain it will be a culinary delight. Presbyterian As most of you know, our meetings are the first Tuesday of each month, at 12 noon. Meetings last an hour or less and include opening prayer, lunch, a devotional, treasurer s report and business Meeting. New ideas are welcome. Again, thank all of you who made our recent rummage sale a tremendous success. We are a non-profit group, all income goes to needy organizations/individuals. Thank God for His timeless love By Reed Marton ONE SIZE FITS ALL... Our combined Circle Meeting will be Tuesday, February 9 at noon in the Parlor. Bring your lunch and join in study and fellowship. Judy Henderson has agreed to join us again for a day of fun and learning here in Rockport. We hope you will join us! The day will include continental breakfast as we get started, a fabulous lunch, and joy-filled fellowship and discussion led by Judy. Judy is an amazing speaker and storyteller who has spent her life serving -in the business place, the church, and in the mission field. Her stories of observing life are not only humorous at times, but help others to see the world through the eyes of Scripture in a very accessible way. Come one, come all --and bring a friend! A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board at the back of the Sanctuary. Questions? Contact Parkie Luce or Lori Nance. From the Presbyterian Women s Treasurer: Have you forgotten to pay for your Christmas Poinsettias? If so, the cost per plant was $ Checks should be made payable to Presbyterian Women and, for your convenience, placed in the collection plate on Sunday morning. 5 Mo Ranch Planning Meeting, January 12, 2010 Presbyterian Women s Gathering 1. Shirts a. Fish shirts for Saturday ordered today b. 42 green T shirts ordered today If anyone missed out on ordering, contact Lou Fegley ( ) or Linda Robinson ( ) and they will see if they can add to the order. (Thanks to Lou and Linda for collecting money and ordering the shirts!) Registration Forms (WOW!!) will be mailed to the Presbytery Office on Thursday, Jan. 14, by Barb Goodlock. (Thanks to Barb for collecting forms and making sure everyone turned one in!) 3. Green bags Sandy Swanson brought examples of the bags we can order from downtown. We voted to order the 13 lime green bags that she brought since they would only cost $2.16 a piece with the logo printed on them. This saves the PW $1.84 a bag since these are cheaper than the Chico bags we had earlier chosen. (Thanks to Sandy for finding a better deal on the bags!) 4. Charade check Several women looked over what we had found for the Charade game at the last meeting and selected which quotes from the Bible would work. We decided we needed more work on the Charade game to fine tune it. 5. Raffle Rita Gilbert reported on the raffle. It will include 2 nights at the Light House Inn, a $50 dinner certificate at Cheryl s, and a Tommy s birding trip for 2. Then Barb Goodlock volunteered to make a Rockport quilt to go with the raffle gifts. The raffle money will be applied to the Emma Norris Offering that we collect during worship at Mo Ranch. (Thanks to Rita for gathering such perfect gifts! And thanks to Barb for the great quilt idea!!) 6. Bottles Rita Gilbert reported that she had ordered a case of bottles and corks for $ after the 30% discount. These bottles are for the Message in the Bottle that we will prepare before we go minus the messages. Those will be added as the women leave worship to take home with them. 7. Paper Mache decorations We have completed 2 starfish, 2 seahorses, 1 sand dollar; we also made 1 sand dollar, 2 shells, and a turtle which may need more work. Caro Jackson has volunteered to paint the critters and make them look authentic! (Thanks to Lori for teaching us the new way to paper Mache and thanks to Caro for agreeing to the painting part!) 8. Songs We discussed and made a list of songs we would like to sing at Mo Ranch. These will be used for the Gathering times in the auditorium and worship on Sunday morning. (Thanks to all of you who came with ideas and all of you who brainstormed at the meeting so well!) 9. Women s Retreat will be Saturday, February 20 th at the church! Ya ll Come!!! We had 15 come to the meeting! That was wonderful!! Our next meeting will be February 16 at 5:30 in the Parlor. We are getting closer to conference time (April 9 11) and we still have some work to do! See you there! Connie Schuler

6 Ministering to others... CASTAWAY S IMPORTANT DATES: Castaways Annual Meeting: Sunday February 21, 2010, 1:30 PM Senior Services Center 912 Church St This is an open meeting and we invite all volunteers and church members to attend. A light meal will be served. A special marking day is planned for February 2nd at the church, 9 AM, upstairs. Life is full of surprises! While marking during the Christmas closing at Castaways, a not very prosperous man came in and handed a rose to each woman in the room. He then left. It was so special. January 4, 2010 was a record day at the shop. It was the first open day after being closed for two weeks for cleaning and repairs. The store was packed. Folks were so glad to be back at Castaways. Comments like--"i am addicted to coming here and went into withdrawal", "You shouldn't be closed for so long", "I come every day...", "I am so glad you are open again"... Castaways is an important part of the community as a whole and to individuals. See you there! Sandy Booth PRAYER COMFORTER NEWS The Prayer Comforters designed and prepared by Barbara Goodlock to give those who are hurting continue to prove themselves an important Mission Outreach for our Church. However, March, November and December were high-volume months. If a special prayer quilt is needed, please let me know. Editor s Note: The heart-warming Prayer Comforter Thank You Notes printed in this issue confirm the comfort these bring their recipients.. What would you like to know about your Good Samaritans? Check out the web site...you will be surprised how much is involved in this Organization! Go to: rfgoodsam.com and see for your self. If its entertainment you want just wait til March 7. You will see that Rockport- Fulton Has Talent!! And the proceeds go to Good Samaritans. Have you bought the new cookbook called "Recipes and Remembrances"? It also benefits Good Sam. As always, remember 1st Sunday donations! Thank you, Jerry

Kindest regards, Lucy Fernandez Executive Director Life Is a Gift Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak. Before :you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat. Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion. Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who went too early to heaven. Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet. And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job. And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and think: you're alive and still around.

8 PRAYER COMFORTER Date: January 26 To The Prayer Quilters at Presbyterian Church in Rockport, Texas Thank you very much for the beautiful prayer-quilt you made for me during my recent illness. It was so kind and thoughtful of you to take time and effort to make this quilt and the prayers did help, I am now out of the hospital and feeling much better. Again, thank you very much. Best regards Sue Reynolds mother of Ingrid Ulrika Little ================================================================== EDITOR S NOTE: In December we added my nephew s friend and co-worker, Hector Dominguez, to our prayer list and sent him a Prayer Comforter. Hector s cancer, previously in remission, returned with a vengeance. Following is a Thank You from my nephew and a letter from Mr. Dominguez. Date: Friday, January 8, 2010 Aunt Bev, I gave Hector the Prayer quilt today. He loved it. He had heard about them but then realized the significance of the knots. It brought him to tears. Everyone in the office had a chance to pray over it so there were a lot of knots. He is an amazing man; I wish everyone at your church had a chance to meet him. Thank you Aunt Bev for setting this up. This is an awesome ministry your church is doing and it has had a positive impact not just on Hector but everyone here at the DPS office in Amarillo. Thank everyone there that prayed for Hector and made the quilt. Adam R. Russell Agent / Criminal Investigation Division Texas Department of Public Safety January 15, 2010 Dear Aunt Bev - I wanted to thank you for the wonderful quilt that your church sent me. It is the most beautiful thing and it touched me deeply. What a tremendous ministry and I applaud you guys for undertaking such an effort. I have taken the quilt to several law enforcement related offices in Amarillo to allow friends to add their knots. I have also taken it to a family event and to a function at my previous home church in Hereford to allow more loved ones to add their own knots. Everyone is amazed at the quilt and the ministry. When laying out the quilt for others, I have laid out copies of the letter you sent so that people will get the full effect and idea behind the quilt. In doing so, I have noticed that people enjoy it so much that they actually take a copy of the letter. Unfortunately, someone happened to walk away with my original letter as well during this process. If you happen to have another letter with the original signature, I would greatly appreciate it if you would send it to me. If not that is okay as well, since I still have several copies that I carry with me. Once we victoriously come out of this valley that we are walking through, my wife and I plan on framing the quilt along with the letter because we feel so honored and want to proudly display it in our home! Please pass on our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in this ministry. You guys have no idea the profound blessing that this ministry is providing. God bless you and thank you very much! Your Brother in Christ, Hector Dominguez

9 Dear Church Family, I received this in an the other day about our friend s daughter, Allyssa Smith. As you may remember, I requested prayer for her as she struggled to stay alive. Our church also sent her a prayer quilt that she cherishes. I wanted to share her picture with you and thank you, my church family, for all your support and prayers. As you can see they do work and she is doing great! Thanks again, Ingrid U Little

11 MORE FROM THE CHURCH LADY The Dastardly Months of December and January are FINALLY over along with the long hours and stress to meet deadlines for numerous year end reports, W2s and contribution statements; not to mention closing 2009 records and opening 2010 records; transferring staff payroll in January from an Excel spreadsheet to a QuickBooks payroll program (yeah!) along with its trial and error learning curve (and believe me, I had some doozeys. They weren t funny at the time but now I can almost laugh at them.) My nerves are frayed, I m exhausted and. I NEED A VACATION! So, Charlie and Lori said I could take one. I need volunteers those 5 week days to answer the phone (if it rings) and greet visitors (if any) for 4 hours from 8:00 or 8:30 am to 12 or 12:30 pm (times are at your option). It s usually quiet while I m gone, so volunteers would need to bring reading material. Call or churchlady8@sbcglobal.net if you will take a morning (or two?) or need more information. 12 February is always special for Odyssey, as it is the month of our annual fundraiser, Round Up Your Heart for a Child. This event is hugely successful every year, providing the funds to sustain the Odyssey program, due to the dedication of our talented and creative organizing committee. This year s theme is paint your heart happy! and the Odyssey children are working on several painting projects, under the direction of our art coordinator Mary Beth Orrison, which will be auctioned at the event. These include a porch swing painted with Rockport s landmarks, including the Fulton Mansion, the Skimmer, and of course our windswept oaks. In addition the children are also painting a series of tree swings, focused on our native wildlife, birds, and other coastal creatures. Our winter enrichment activities include a variety of fun and educational projects. We are delighted to have Pastor Lori teaching guitar lessons to a group of five Odyssey children. We are also continuing our character development and community service learning, due to the success we observed during the fall as we helped Good Sam s. During the next few months our service projects will include helping at the Community Table, visiting nursing homes to read and play board games with residents, and making fleece blankets for children in foster care. Due to the number of children we have who are in need of an extra boost, Odyssey is initiating a mentoring program. This program pairs up adult mentors with a child who needs one-onone help with homework and reading for thirty minutes one or two times a week. By working with the same child week after week, a real difference can be made. If you are looking for a way to truly open the door to new opportunities in a child s life, please contact me I d be happy to tell you more! Life is a journey of discovery. Join us! Jaime Cupit Executive Director ODYSSEY after school enrichment program P.O. Box 237 Rockport, TX (361) (361) (cell) Knowing What Is In Our Bibles. A little girl in talking with her pastor about the Bible said, I know all that is in the Bible. Oh, you do said the surprised pastor? Well, then, just suppose you start telling me all that is in the Bible. O,K., said the little girl, I will. With a broad smile she continued, There s a picture of grandma, two pressed flowers, a clipping of Bobby s hair when he was a baby, a letter from daddy when he was on a long trip, a clipping from the newspaper and that s all that is in the Bible. -Submitted by Barbara Eckelmann-

14 This all started when Ozzie Williams thought we should ring the church bell after each performance of the Live Nativity. Allen Kling gladly agreed to perform the task and that night he was our official bell ringer. If someone asked YOU to ring the church bell, would you know where to find it? Would you know how to access it? After the Live Nativity, Allen began investigating systems that could automatically ring the church bell. The internet provided him with a company that makes such a system: Check out the website, churchbellministry.com, to get more information on the programmable church bell ringer and Bring back to your community an American tradition and reach more persons than ever using a resource that has retired on the job. Your bell can draw attention to the Lord and your church during the day using the TOD (time of day) clock chime even when no one is there. The Worship Committee has added the Programmable Church Bell Ringer (PCBR) to our WISH LIST! Thanks, Allen! Did you know?? During the year 1942, the church building at Market and S. Magnolia streets was extensively damaged by a hurricane whose destructive winds blew down the steeple. (From John R. Bradshaw s A History of First Presbyterian Church Rockport, TX) According to Steve Atwood, the cast iron bell was left on the grounds of the church until moved to its present location in If any members have more information about the Presbyterian bell: What foundry made it? How much does it weigh? Was it purchased by a church member? Was it dedicated? We would appreciate any information. WORSHIP WISH LIST: Programmable Church Bell Ringer System ($810 for Atomic Clock PCBR Kit/$410 for standard PCBR Kit) Upgraded Projector for the 8:30 AM Service (+/-$1100) Sound Mate Assistive Listening Devices * (+/-$72 ea.)
