2 From the Senior Minister That being said Hurricanes, Tornados, Earthquakes, Forest Fires, Wars, and Rumors of Wars. It seems everyone has an opinion on what is happening in our current world climate, and comparing that to what the Bible says about end times. End times can be awefully scarry. The END of TIME? Not just the world as we know it no longer. The WORLD...NO LONGER! It s hard to wrap our minds around the idea that this physical world could come to an end. It can. And, not to be the one who claims the sky is falling, it WILL. God will eventually say, ENOUGH. Is that now? Am I ready? What about.(and you fill in the blank.) Well, before we get too crazy, let s read the rest of what is mentioned in Matthew s Gospel "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such Things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, a kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains." Matthew 24:6-8 So will the end of time look bad? Apparently so. But it has already looked bad, according to any of these calamities, ever since the words were first penned. And also remember a few verses down in that same chapter 24 of Matthew "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." Matthew 24:36,42,44 So when we speak about a peace that passes understanding, this is were the faith of the believer kicks in. We may not know or understand everything about WHEN the Lord returns. But His Word encourages us to simply be ready when He does. That means we don t need to count how many storms, fires, and earthquakes are in the news this week and start getting worried. Instead, when we have our relationship right with God, we can live each day AS IF today might be the day. We then live with a confidence rather than with any kind of fear. How do we do that?... "Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word." 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2,16-17 Are we in the End Times? - We have been since the resurrection of Christ Are there wars and rumors of wars? - There are, and have been since the resurrection of Christ Should we be alarmed? - Not if we find the encouragement from the Lord in every good deed and word. 3 Communication From the Leadership Don t Worry Be Happy! In the words of the great American composer, Bobby McFarrin Don t worry, Be Happy! Matthew reinforces the idea in chapter 6, verses 25 thru 34; Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear? For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Do you know we as a nation spend billions of dollars on just anti-anxiety medications. We are a worrying people. What if my guests don t like my dinner? What if my child embarrasses me in public? What if I lose my job tomorrow? I mean to tell you, we worry about silly stuff. Pray over your food before the guests arrive. Pray over your family every day. Pray over your job every day. Pray more, worry less. Seriously, I know this all sounds good, but it really is accomplishable. If we look just above this passage in Matthew we see several instructions on prayer. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:5-13 Now when Jesus gives us the correct way to pray, maybe we ought to pay attention. We have all the tools, we just need to open the toolbox and use them daily. ( dependent on transportation) October 22 - Fellowship Meal (sponsored by the Senior s Ministry) October PM Trunk or Treat Dear CCCC Friends, When my father passed last year, not to be cliché, but it was so unexpected, I just wasn t prepared for all the choices we had to make in such a short time. Months later I had an idea. We had attended a wreath laying ceremony at the national cemetery here in town, where my father is buried. I thought, we need to get involved with this organization. From that initial thought we began Cookies for Ken, a non-profit company to raise funds for Wreaths Across America. Their mission is to Remember the fallen US veteran s, Honor those who serve, and Teach your children the value of freedom. Our cookie sale will be October 14 at Capital City Christian Church in the Foyer area. Cookies are $7.50 per dozen. Each two dozen cookies equals one wreath sold. Together with our partnership with Wreaths Across America, every two wreaths sold they donate one free. If we don t have your favorite flavor, donations are appreciated.
