3 "What wonderful majesty! What stupendous condescension! O sublime humility! That the Lord of the whole universe, God and the Son of God, should humble Himself like this under the form of a little bread, for our salvation." ~ St. Francis of Assisi Our Picnic Meeting June 24, 2018 will be our second picnic meeting in Tower Grove Park. And once again we will gather at the Stone Shelter. And once again we are inviting members from the Other Fraternities in the Region. And once again you are encouraged to bring family and friends. And once again the picnic will be from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or there-abouts, we have the pavilion all day. Once again we will have hamburgers and hot dogs and brats. And once again if the Holy Spirit moves you, you can bring a side dish or a dessert. There are plenty of tables and benches at the site, but you may want to bring lawn chairs. And once again we are hoping for the great weather we had last time. 3
4 Saint Anthony Feast Day St. Anthony Feast Day, June 13, 2018, is on a Wednesday this year. St. Anthony of Padua Church will be giving out the traditional lilies and St. Anthony Bread after the 11:00 a.m. Mass on that day. They of course will have the 6:30 a.m. Mass, but will not be giving out bread and lilies at that Mass. Our Fraternity usually helps preparing the bread and lilies for distribution and we will probably need to do that earlier that day, but as of now, I do not know exactly what time that will be. I will let you all know when I know. St. Anthony s will order less bread and lilies than they did last year, since they are only giving them out at one Mass and they had so much left over last time. I hope some of you can come to help, since it is a good time. Regional Chapter Meeting There will be a Regional Chapter Meeting on June 16, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Immaculate Conception Church is located at 7701 Hwy N, Dardenne Prairie, MO The morning will be mainly devoted to business. Representatives from the National Fraternity will be present for the formal Visitation of the Regional. There will be a good lunch, they have great lunches at Immaculate Conception. After lunch there will be various presentations covering various aspects of Franciscan Spirituality. If you are able to attend, please consider attending. The Regional Retreat The Regional Retreat will August 10 through 12 at the Kings House in Belleville. The price has been lowered to $ ( which is lower than last year ) to stay overnight and $ to commute. We do not have the Retreat Director or them of the retreat yet, but we should know soon. There is a Welcome page, an About Us page, a Want to be a Franciscan? page, a Helpful Links page, a Newsletter page, a Contact Information page, a Franciscan Prayers page, and a Prayer Requests page. The Helpful Links has a link to the St. Clare Region site and the New National Fraternity website among other helpful links. Thank you, John, for making this, I think it is attractive and easy to navigate. I invite you to check it out and let John know what you think. Cat available to good home. Candy O Connell, OFS has a cat that is available to a good. The cat used to belong to her Mother, but her Mother can no longer keep her. The cat is litter box trained, If you would like a cat, give Candy a call at Why is Saint Anthony of Padua known for helping us finding lost articles? This is from a letter written by Father John Pfannenstiel, OFM Cap. Let me tell you the real story about St. Anthony and why we turn to him to help us find things. As you know, St. Anthony was a great preacher. While he prayed before any sermon, he wrote in his prayer book the inspiration he received from the Lord. One day that prayer book disappeared. Anthony prayed that he would find that precious book. 5
6 It turns out that a young novice friar, who lost his vocation, decided to leave the Order. As he was leaving the friary to return to the world, he took the prayer book with him. He stole it! After several weeks, thanks to the prayers of St. Anthony, that young man returned the prayer book. But something much more important happened. That young man found his vocation again. He returned to the friary and lived the rest of his life as a holy Franciscan friary. Though the prayer book was of great value to St. Anthony, the return of the young friar was even much more precious to him. That young man had lost his vocation, his purpose, even his sense of right and wrong. Thanks to the prayers of St. Anthony, that young man found what had been lost. Thank you, Audrey, for passing this on to me.
